Although they were busy and had 5 other repairs to complete that afternoon, Brad stopped what he was working on to help with my wheel. Even though he was busy, he took his time to make sure my wheel was solid and in good condition for the next day's event. One of the best bike shop experiences in my 73 years. Brad gave me some good tips and was easy to talk with. His repair cost was about half what I had expected and would have paid at my LBS in Minnesota. They had a lot of inventory. They also rent bikes. Overall it was an excellent interaction and I definitely will return to Bicycle Outfitters on my next visit to Grand Junction. I highly recommend them for repairs and purchases.

Back then he did a great job and was sincerely interested in his customer's best interests. I sent many of my friends to him and at least one even ordered a custom bike through him. All that changed, though, when he opened his own shop, The Bicycle Studio. Now he seems much more concerned about getting as much money out of his customers as possible. This is most disturbing when charges for services without first getting the customer's approval, which is a sneaky way to make money if you ask me. Matters are not likely to improve, though, since John does not take constructive criticism well. In my last experience with him I felt that, once again, I had been overcharged for a service, this time a recheck on a fitting. This time I decided not to let it slide. After pointing out that what I was charged was not consistent with his own policies on his web site, John became defensive, demeaning and insulting. I eventually received a partial refund (I still feel I was cheated) and was told by John "find another bike shop". Keep in mind, this after I had done business with him for quite some time and sent many of my friends his way. I've waited some time since that experience before writing this review thinking that he might gain some wisdom and realize that in me he had an opportunity to learn how to improve his business. That hasn't happened. He's a good physical therapist, seems to know his stuff about bike fitting, but is (based on the bad experiences of others) a poor bike mechanic and tends not to take responsibility for his mistakes. Worst of all he thinks he's doing you a favor by allowing you to be his customer, exemplifying the sort of arrogance that the sport has in abundance but could easily do without. Not surprisingly, I no longer refer others to John; on the contrary, I make it a habit to warn others about his business practices and have had to apologize to those friends I did refer to him.

Beware all of you REI customers! This independently owned company has taken mask wearing policies to the next inappropriate level, even breaking the Americans with disabilities act over and over again! Not only do they require you to wear a mask, as you will see below, they require you to wear it up to the eye bone and below the chin. This is so you can go into their overly priced store and be treated horribly by their staff. After speaking with their headquarters, it is up to the discretion of their employees to decide how you should be wearing your mask. I was in the Grand Junction store on 10/1/20. The employees kept approaching me and telling me that my mask needed to be up more, even though my mask was already up to the top bridge of my nose. After asking to speak to a manager a gal by the name of Molly approached me and immediately stated that the REI mask requirement was that the mask, not only must cover the nose, but must go past the nose to the lower eye rim. When I asked her for the corporate number she stated that I could get it online and that REI was independently owned and had the right to make you wear your mask up to the eye rim or any other way. I told her that I was going to contact the corporate office and proceeded to leave. Molly then followed me out of the store yelling at me, stating that she had also decided that I was no longer allowed back into the store. I then contacted their corporate office and I was then told that the employees do have the right to make you were your mask as high or low as they would like if they feel it would protect them more, even if it's up to your eyeballs! This all explains why there are never any cars or people in this store! There are so many other retailers that sell the same stuff, at a lower price and with friendly staff. Very poor management, intolerant and very disrespectful. The Manager literally walked out a poor mentally handicapped child and their parent because the poor child kept accidentally knocking his mask off. I will be refraining from shopping at this REI location and will tell others to avoid such a bigoted place as well. read more

The GM at the Grand Junction location is a joke. The way he treats people is wildly rude and disrespectful. He clearly thinks very highly of himself, enough to treat the people he talks to in the store like peasants. I felt very uncomfortable around him. I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

It hurts to write negative reviews, however I can't support a business in our happy valley community that openly embraces censorship. REI has gone from a fun, outdoors shop that everyone could appreciate, to actively joining into a partisan ideology, for no apparent reason. Very disappointing. read more
