My interaction began a few weeks ago when I spoke with Brad about my upcoming trip to Grand Junction, Colorado. I explained my experience and what I was looking for in a mountain bike rental, and info on the local trails. He was quite receptive and very informative. I probably took up 10 minutes of his time but he answered all of my questions and gave me some good suggestions. When I got to the shop I was helped by Blaine. He set me up with my bike, pedals and helmet, gave me a few tips on the local trails and when asked suggested a place to eat, even a recommendation on a good thing to order there. I got a nice full suspension bike the first day.....a Rocky Mountain Instinct, helmet and SPD pedals. Perfectly set up and maintained extremely well. An excellent ride. Great deal ($80 for the day)! Decided to go for a Salsa hardtail for my next 2 days. All they had available was an XL which is a bit large for me but it was another killer ride. Very well maintained. They were quick and inexpensive, plus they gave a recommendation for a great beginner ride. We ended up back at their shop after the ride since the old chain broke near the end of the ride (luckily). Super friendly family-run vibe at this local bike shop. We were renting bikes to climb the National Monument, and they hooked us up. This was the cheapest place in town that had what we needed, and they sent us with all the accessories we might possibly need (co2 cartrige, spare tube, tools, etc). I figured we'd have to buy that stuff. The bikes they rented were top notch (in fact, I want a new road bike because of it... d'oh), and I was impressed - the owner fit me perfectly the first time just from eyeballing. The one thing I will mention is that the shop was SLAMMED on a Sunday (most of the staff was at a race out of town) and they were understaffed, and we waited a while to get the bikes, but they were super friendly the whole time. If we were in a hurry, they would have been on top of it, but we weren't. If I'm in GJ again without my bike, I'll be renting from them again! read more

Jeff helped me out on my first ever rental (Felt) and he was relaxed and cool about getting me outfitted and on my way. I brought my own shoes and confirmed they had the right pedals. Sunday 2:45PM. I was building my bike back up after we flew in from NY and I couldn't get the front wheel on because the front disc calipers were closed shut. Our five day ride would start the next morning at 8. I called Bicycle Outfitters out of the blue and Brad answered. He said the shop closed at 3. I said I had no transportation to his shop and he answered: "Where are you?" I told him and he said he'd stop by after he closed the shop. I just couldn't believe it. He actually came by our hotel and fixed the caliper! This man makes house calls! You don't get customer service like this everyday and I'm not even a customer! Like doctors used to do back in the day. When I asked what I owed him he waved me off with a smile and a story. What a terrific way to start a bike trip. Was told to pay for my son's tire, and for my son and I to leave store and never come back. I was 2nd in line, in a line of roughly 6 other people. Being way caught off guard I asked what we did. He just kept repeating louder and more aggressive he became. I was standing in line waiting to pay. I didn't say not a word one the whole time, til the owner started saying these things to me. So I was very confused. When asked to explain he would not. We had spent thousands of dollars in his establishment over the yrs, and never had a problem. He even went so far as to have me served with a restraining order at my place of work, and my son while school was in session. We were passing through Grand Junction on the way to Moab when we realized one of our Rocky Mounts bike rack parts was missing. We rolled into Bicycle Outfitters after learning that they might have Rocky Mounts parts and met Brad, pretty much the nicest human to ever work at a bike store. While he didn't have the actual RM part in stock, he helped us brainstorm a solution, gave us directions to the hardware store, then helped us cut and install the piece we needed to make our rack whole again. He absolutely saved our bikes and made a stressful situation much more calm and chill. Thanks, Brad! read more

If you are in Grand Junction and need someone to work on your bike, do not go to this store: After the owner could not fix my bike, he said I either have to buy a wheel from him, leave the bike with him (which he knew I was not planning on doing) or he will put the bike back together and let me take it with me. I said I will take the last option. Then he said: Then I have to charge you for the labor. I was planning to give him something for his efforts, but when he demanded it, I no longer were willing to give him anything. I said you have not done anything but banging hard on my wheel and I have no idea what that did to the wheel. He suddenly gave me the unattached cassette wheels, the skewer (and other separated items) that were taken from the bike, and took the rest of the bike from the stand and told me leave the bike shop. I told him I will give him a very bad review in the Internet. It was then that he backed up and said to leave the bike there and he will fix it before 10:00 AM the next day, and I can have it then. Before this happened he asked me to come into the work space (shop) while he was working on the bike. All the above conversation took place while we were in the middle of the shop and other employees were all around us (around 6 of them). After we got into the heated argument, the employees started crowding us. Even after he started walking out of the shop with my bike to kick me out, they still were crowding us. I felt very insecure and threatened. When he suggested I leave the bike with him until tomorrow, it was a relief and I said OK, left the bike there, and left immediately. Do not go to this shop. What a great shop! We are from out of town on a mtn biking trip to Fruita when the XT crank broke on my new bike. I called Bicycle Outfitters and they said come on down. It was mid day Saturday in spring. They had me in and out in less than an hour all set with a used part that fit. Very reasonable price for the fast work. I chose to do business with them because every person I've spoken to or exchanged email with there is courteous, knowledgable, and professional. Their prices are competitive, they have the selection I needed, and have a generous return/exchange policy that I likely won't have to ever use (because we got it right the first time). Bicycle Outfitters has MY Money, MY Bike and a Full Wholesale Refund. Don't be another victim of Brad and Bicycle Outfitters. I purchased an electric bicycle for $2200 plus tax from Brad at Bicycle Outfitters on First Street, GJ, CO, August 2013. The bike was a lemon and I had to return the bike many times for alleged repairs. I took the bike back for the last time to Brad, June 2014. Brad was in Italy on a bike trip and an employee assured me that Brad would contact me as soon as he returned from vacation. I did not receive any communication from Brad despite my numerous inquiries. Brad had my phone number, email address and mailing address. Brad was always "busy" every time I called. In August 2014, I called again and the employee stated Brad was "busy". I threatened to contact an attorney, and Brad was suddenly available to take my call. In that conversation, Brad agreed to a full refund of my money. I waited. I mailed two written reminders about the $2400+ he had agreed to refund. I contacted the BBB and got nowhere. In November 2014, I contacted my credit card company and filed a dispute. However, as the disputed was not filed in 2013, the credit card company could do nothing. In 2015 I contacted the bicycle Distributor. The distributor (Polaris) had given Brad a full refund for the bike. I have an email from Michael Marquis, Operations Manager, that Bicycle Outfitters received the money and was to give the total amount of refunded money to me. Brad received the check in November 2014 while the credit card dispute was open. Brad, the owner of Bicycle Outfitters stole my bike, my money and the manufacturers money. He claims I owe him money for transportation when the bike was being "repaired". Brad NEVER stated that I owed $50 per pickup/drop-off. This further display of theft was brought up during the credit card dispute. read more
