My interaction began a few weeks ago when I spoke with Brad about my upcoming trip to Grand Junction, Colorado. I explained my experience and what I was looking for in a mountain bike rental, and info on the local trails. He was quite receptive and very informative. I probably took up 10 minutes of his time but he answered all of my questions and gave me some good suggestions. When I got to the shop I was helped by Blaine. He set me up with my bike, pedals and helmet, gave me a few tips on the local trails and when asked suggested a place to eat, even a recommendation on a good thing to order there. I got a nice full suspension bike the first day.....a Rocky Mountain Instinct, helmet and SPD pedals. Perfectly set up and maintained extremely well. An excellent ride. Great deal ($80 for the day)! Decided to go for a Salsa hardtail for my next 2 days. All they had available was an XL which is a bit large for me but it was another killer ride. Very well maintained. And I got a multi day discount! Thank you, Brad, Blaine and all of the crew at B.O.! Great service. Killer bikes. Awesome prices. I will definitely see you next time!

Thanks for the rental Bicycle Outfitters

Rolled into the shop about 12:30, I had called in and with lots of inventory available no reservation was required (8/28, Monday). Jeff helped me out on my first ever rental (Felt) and he was relaxed and cool about getting me outfitted and on my way. I brought my own shoes and confirmed they had the right pedals. Returned about 4:30 after a Colorado Monument Road Ride. Bike operated great (haha but had a flat 200 feet from the return so I just walked it in, sorry guys). Tip-Top gear and Tip-Worthy service.

A terrific full service shop. Best in Colorado. HUGE selection, tons of MTB. Well staffed, great location. Your one stop shop in Grand Junction, for sure.

This shop has an excellent offering of bikes, and they go above and beyond. Great people, great shop.

Plenty of friendlier places in Grand Junction to take your bike. Multiple experiences, all of them poor.

This bicycle shop is as good as it gets in my opinion. I live in Denver but choose to use this shop…read morefor major purchases and fits. John, the owner, is helpful, knowledgeable, and goes out of his way to make sure you are 100% happy with your purchase. I purchased a custom seven bicycle from John. Ordering a custom bike is an experience and John made it a great one. He managed the details with Seven making sure that the bike was what I was wanting and expecting. He stayed late when I came into town to pick it up and complete the fit. He goes above and beyond for customers plus he is just a nice guy. The customer's satisfaction matters to John. If you are looking for more than just a bike shop this is it. You will not be dissapointed if you use this shop.

Back when John, owner of The Bicycle Studio, worked as a physical therapist I was a regular client…read moreof his. Back then he did a great job and was sincerely interested in his customer's best interests. I sent many of my friends to him and at least one even ordered a custom bike through him. All that changed, though, when he opened his own shop, The Bicycle Studio. Now he seems much more concerned about getting as much money out of his customers as possible. This is most disturbing when charges for services without first getting the customer's approval, which is a sneaky way to make money if you ask me. Matters are not likely to improve, though, since John does not take constructive criticism well. In my last experience with him I felt that, once again, I had been overcharged for a service, this time a recheck on a fitting. This time I decided not to let it slide. After pointing out that what I was charged was not consistent with his own policies on his web site, John became defensive, demeaning and insulting. I eventually received a partial refund (I still feel I was cheated) and was told by John "find another bike shop". Keep in mind, this after I had done business with him for quite some time and sent many of my friends his way. I've waited some time since that experience before writing this review thinking that he might gain some wisdom and realize that in me he had an opportunity to learn how to improve his business. That hasn't happened. He's a good physical therapist, seems to know his stuff about bike fitting, but is (based on the bad experiences of others) a poor bike mechanic and tends not to take responsibility for his mistakes. Worst of all he thinks he's doing you a favor by allowing you to be his customer, exemplifying the sort of arrogance that the sport has in abundance but could easily do without. Not surprisingly, I no longer refer others to John; on the contrary, I make it a habit to warn others about his business practices and have had to apologize to those friends I did refer to him.

This one star review is for the manager in hopes that you will read it and make some changes. On…read moreAugust 9th I received a coupon for a discount with REI. As it happens, I was in the market for a new backpack for travels I will be taking in the near future. I was interested in a backpack that was either waterproof or watertight as I will be hiking in a coastal area that will be subjected to intermittent rainfall of a heavy nature. I called your store and inquired about such backpacks and was told that you had many to choose from. The following day August 10th I drove an hour to your store and began looking around in the backpack department. An employee who I assume was assigned to the department asked me if there was anything I was looking for. I opened the REI app on my phone and showed the man an example of what I was looking for. This employee was about 5'9" tall with brown hair and a short beard. I do not remember his name because the interaction was so unlike what I am used to at REI that I left completely confused. When I showed the employee, what I was looking for is immediate response was, " we don't carry that type of product, you need to go to Gear Junction. They will have everything you need." I looked at your employee with complete confusion as he was recommending that I go to a competitor and did not even bother to ask me why I was looking for a particular backpack. I said to the employee, I don't want to go Gear Junction, I always buy my hiking equipment at REI. He looked me straight in the face and said we don't carry waterproof rafting equipment here you need to go to Gear Junction. I attempted to explain to him that I was not going rafting that I was going hiking and why I was looking for a backpack. He seemed completely uninterested and again suggested I go to your competitor. Finally, I asked him. Is there anything in the store that you can show me That is in a 22 L size backpack so I can at least get an idea of what I'm looking for. He waved his arm briefly toward a rack of backpacks and said it'll be somewhere between here and there and then walked away. I stood there confused for a while and attempted to look at backpacks and finally decided to help with it. I had other items that I needed to look for, but I was so upset by this man's insistency that I go shop with the competitors that I left the store. I went to my car and sat there for a while and thought about doing this one star review then and there, and I even thought about going back into your store and asking to see the manager. However, I was so upset. I knew that that would not be the prudent thing to do so I came home and allowed myself to cool down. The following day did exactly what your employee suggested, and went to Gear Junction. The Young man working there was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about backpacks. After listening to what type of trip I was going to be taking he suggested that I probably did not need a completely waterproof backpack, but that what I needed was a water tight backpack. He showed me several, and the one that I liked the most was made by Osprey. I assume that you carry the same backpacks at REI. I eventually decided on a backpack for my trip, but I did not buy it at your REI store. This is unfortunate because I have shopped with REI since the day you opened at your old location on seventh Street. I am not suggesting that your employee was rude to me. He was not in the classical sense. However, he was completely disinterested as to why I was in the store or what I was looking for and to what end. Had he taken just a little bit of time to find out why And what I needed I would've bought something that day. As it is, you've lost out on a good sale and if I encounter this type of behavior again at your location, I will discontinue shopping local and identify the Denver store as my home store and just shop online. I do not like to do this as I like to support our local businesses. However, I will not support this complete lack of customer service. I hope that you take this review in stride and make the reasonable management decision to have a discussion with this employee so that this does not replicated itself in the future. Enclosing I will add that this is the first time this is ever happened to me at any REI location.
