I'm surprised there are not more reviews of this place. It's a neat little climbing gym with some surprisingly tall climbing walls. Bouldering, top roping and lead climbing routes are all available here. There's also a fitness area upstairs. The locker room has a shower and lockers for storing valuables (cubbies are found next to the main climbing area). There's even a small store where you can purchase climbing gear. Pretty much you can find all the amenities you'd expect at a typical climbing gym. One big thing for me is the ventilation. Some gyms are horrible at it and you are pretty much breathing in a ton of chalk and dust while climbing. However, this gym seems to do a great job at ventilating the place! Then on second thought, I haven't been here on a busy day so I'm not the best judge of that. There are student, military and family discounts on the monthly passes so that's something to consider if you are thinking about signing up. The $16 daily pass is pretty pricey, but there's currently a deal for $8 passes on Wednesdays after 5pm. I think it is great that there's an indoor climbing gym in Grand Junction! Super friendly staff and chill vibes here. The only con is the pricing. It's quite expensive for a small gym... I'm from Seattle where indoor rock climbing was born so you can imagine the gyms there can be pretty big. That said, this gym is relatively small but the pricing is comparable to a much larger gym. Another thing to take into account is the cost of living in Grand Junction, which is much less than Seattle, so lowering the price can potentially bring in a lot more customers. read more

Came to town to climb in Unaweep and made the mistake of coming here on a Saturday when it snowed too much to climb outdoors. Gym was supposed to open at 10am but was dark and locked. An employee finally rolled up at 10:20 just as I was getting ready to give up and leave. I should have taken this as a sign and gone to Grip, but I figured I'd at least get a discount on a day pass for the unprofessionalism. Nope, $23 to climb in their miniscule bouldering area. They do have a functional Moonboard, which is the nicest thing I have to say about this gym. read more

Our family was visiting from out of town and were looking for a place for our 2yr old to climb and Grand Valley Climbing was close. The owner David was very courteous and hospitable. I was impressed that they did not charge for kids under 5yrs old which is not normal; this was helpful since young kids are hard to keep focused on one task, especially something like climbing. This place is amazing. On vacation from Chicago, my wife ended up in a local hospital with a broken back, after a freak accident in an ATV 60 miles from here. Our twin, 8-yr-old daughters have been, well, sad and timid since, understandably. Enter Grand Valley Climbing, and the 3 fierce but gentle young women who were working there today. We came unannounced, as the website encourages, but it's Saturday, so I was nervous. They took us right in and showed us the ropes (*rimshot). My girls have always wanted to visit a climbing gym, but we never had. There were clearly a few great climbers working out, but we novices felt right at home. I can't say enough about this place. Normally, we would have been on our own, which I now know would have been fine. But the woman at the counter mentioned that there was a birthday party ending, and the assigned staff person might be up for staying and providing a little instruction. Well, it turned out Rachel WAS up for it, and what a delight she was. She spent an HOUR with my little girls. I can't tell you the transformation in them, in just that little time. She remarked several times how much she loved this teaching, especially to little girls, and man, it showed. She had them fearless, and 50 feet off the ground in no time. Upon returning to the hospital, my wife was feeling better too, sitting up in a chair, 2 days since back surgery. Even she remarked how different the girls seemed. Chokes me up to think about it. A huge thank you to Rachel, and everyone else at Grand Valley Climbing. You were JUST what my family needed today. read more

Enrolled our child for a climbing camp and paid in advance. She became ill and was unable to attend. We let them know and they said they'd refund the cost of the camp. Have called half a dozen times and they still won't refund it or return our calls. It's been a month. Not a good way to do business. read more

My wife Megan and I just got memberships here. We decided to take a lead climbing course, and our instructor Bennett was a fun and well skilled instructor. He was very attentive and helpful and gave us a great experience. The owner, David, also knows how to treat his customers and offered top of the line customer service. I was pretty disappointed to see employees not wearing masks when it was clearly stated to me (and multiple signs mandated it) that masks were required anytime one was not actually climbing. Furthermore when I inquired and pointed out an individual who didn't even have a mask on his person that individual got angry and made rude comments to me in front of employees who attempted to deflect his behavior. They stated rules changed so much that they weren't sure exactly and that it was 'subjective anyway. It was my first time actually inside a building with strangers since March and I had been assured on the phone that covid precautions would be strictly enforced. It couldn't have been further from the truth. I will go back but not until the covid situation is resolved. I think its a great gym but not a safe environment to be in under such circumstances. read more

I use to think this place was so inclusive and welcoming. I have only been here 5-6 times to climb. I was there a couple weeks ago and heard and saw somethings that left me sad. A young girl came in and was greeted with a snarky eye roll and comment of " do you even climb anymore". It was odd. The girl responded with a confused "that's why I'm here". The girl at the front desk watched her the whole time the young girl was climbing. The look on the older girl's face (around 20 yo) as she watched her was nasty. I felt sorry for this young girl. I couldn't help but wonder how much bullying/judgement this young girl (small, maybe around 15 yo) had taken at this gym. It is so sad that ALL kids can't find a safe and inviting place to have fun. I hope the young girl moves on and finds a more encouraging place to be. I will NOT BE RETURNING read more

Purchased a membership with my boyfriend that I used two weeks of and then had to cancel because I couldn't afford the membership any longer. We both just relocated out here and we're hoping to get back into climbing. I filled out the paper work to cancel the membership and gave it back. Was told after I signed the paperwork that I could no longer use the rest of the the months membership I had purchased. Next billing cycle (November) they charged me again even though I'd previously canceled. Went in to find out why I was charged and was told they lost my paperwork and had no record of me canceling my membership. Filled the paperwork out a second time and was told the same thing. I can't use the gym because I cancelled my membership with them. Next billing cycle (December) I'm charged again. I go back in and they tell me they have no record of me cancelling my membership and that they lost the paperwork. Great. My boyfriend called in a few days later hoping to sort things out with one of the managers. He was told they had lost the paperwork we originally filled out and can't refund us because it's against their policy and that we could use the gym until January 8th (the next billing cycle). 2 months of a membership paid for, $240 down the drain that I couldn't afford right now being as I'm in the middle of moving and have other expenses I needed to cover, and the most they were willing to do was give me was the 12 days left in the billing cycle. I visited the gym later that day and they'd somehow managed to "find" my missing paperwork but the manager I spoke to himself even admitted to losing my previous paperwork but wasn't willing to do anything about it other than call me a liar. I wouldn't trust them with my business at this point. Not only that but the staff wasn't evenly friendly to us. We never even had an orientation of the gym that we were supposed to get day one. Turns out we aren't the first that this has happened to either. Seems to be a reoccurring issue and I'm sure we won't be the last. Tried working things out with the owner and never heard back. I've lost all hope that they'll do the right thing or even try to make up for it. read more
