I've been coming to this REI since 2006. And they have had consistently helpful and personable staff. The people who work here have figured out the best blend of helpful while leaving you to figure out how they can help you. (I was measured for my backpacks here. Trust me, the measurement matters!) I've purchased multiple backpacks and shoes from this store for my hiking journeys, and I have not been disappointed in any item. Their return policy is excellent. I've only had to use it a few times but it has always been easy (you need a receipt though!) I've been an REI member since 2006. In the early days, I would get $20-$30 back from my purchases because I was always stocking up. It's a great loyalty program. Today I bought replacement hiking shoes and a new item - water purification tablets! The store has a new layout so I also took some time to see how they switched things around. And if you can't find what you're looking for, ask someone because they can order it for you and have it shipped to your home. read more

This REI is a larger than average sized REI with a great mix of winter and summer gear during all seasons. The only area with a small selection that I found was the cooking section. Otherwise, you'll find everything you'd need to backpack, camp, cycle, or paddle. The backpack selection is one of the largest I've seen at REI. The clothing for men and women takes up half the store if not more. The tent selection is thorough and full of quality options. Note that this location does not do gear rental as of June 2023. No location in or around Atlanta does rentals. Staff is helpful and not overbearing. Parking is free and easy to find. However, some of the spaces are parallel. read more

When I went to buy a bike, I intended to get the cheapest one in the store. At the REI Bike shop, I met Candice, the bike store manager. She was incredibly knowledgeable about bikes! After listening to her talk about the affordable option, I asked her to tell me about the most expensive bike they had. Once again, she impressed me with her expertise and suggested I test both bikes. I made the mistake of trying the more expensive model, the DRT 3.3, first. It blew me away instantly. I told her I wanted to buy that bike and skip testing the others. I should mention that Candice was gently guiding me towards the lower-cost option, which speaks volumes about REI's commitment to customer satisfaction over profit. In the end, I left with an amazing bike, and I'm really grateful to Candice and the entire team at the bike shop. I had never been to a REI CO-OP but after receiving a gift card for my birthday I was introduced to the brand. I love this store and the selection they offer. Plenty of options for anything outdoor related and although it can be costly, there is a wide range of different price points for every budget. I love the pride collection and chose to buy the Outside with Pride outdoor blanket and the Outside with Pride Rainbow backpack. I'm from a big REI family - in fact, my parents were members in the early 70s in Seattle, and I have been a member for decades. Visiting this store was the only time I have ever had a bad shopping experience at any REI. There were no staff on the floor, and I walked around trying to find someone in the camping section for quite a while. I finally went to the registers, and when I asked for help was told that "we don't have anyone in that section right now." No further effort was made to help me, you know; BUY something. I walked in ready to spend about $700 and walked out empty handed and annoyed. My recommendation to REI Corporate: shut down this location and leave the Atlanta market, or start over with new management. read more

I went into the store yesterday to return a super cute NorthFace running jacket. I forgot my receipt but the cashier was so nice and returned my item without one. If you are a member they can look up your information. This store is so amazing. I loved my experience, everywhere we went there was someone there to help and answer all of our questions. I noticed that they recently hired this black guy that is an avid camper, named Deep. He has a YouTube channel about outdoor activities and getting black people more involved in outdoor activities. First time experiencing rude behavior from a staff member after years of shopping at this location. I could always count on friendly, professional and knowledgeable associates, but today was different. I stopped in to pick up an item I'd ordered online. The store was not busy. The clerk at the checkout counter was eating, and her mouth was so full of food that she could only mumble and nod her head to let me know she was open. (I had to walk the full length of the checkout counter first one way and then the other to get to her station, so I didn't just spring into view. She'd had time to finish chewing and to swallow). Once things got going and she came back empty handed from getting my item, she had to call and find my purchase. She then said "it was on its way" but offered no other information (at another store, in transit, on the moon?). After questioning her at length, I finally found out that the item was on the premises. No other explanation was given, such as how long I had to wait, etc. I stepped aside and in a couple of minutes she came around the corner and handed me my purchase along with a crumpled receipt. No thank you, no sorry you had to wait, nothing. If I had never shopped at REI before, I would never go back again. read more

Parking - They have plenty... sort of. You can park around the building and I think there's a deck? I dunno. I come at an off time when cars aren't everywhere. I would NOT come at a popular time. I've been coming here .... very few weeks the past few months to get supplies for my training days. Staff is great. This REI has a ton of stuff. Be sure to sign up for their membership! This is my happy place. I've never had a bad experience here. The store is well stocked and everyone is super friendly and helpful. I was inspired to finally write a review after last night, when my husband and I unknowingly walked in 30 minutes before closing. I knew what bike I wanted but between picking out the right size, adjusting the height, adding a few accessories onto it and general chit chat, we definitely took the full 30 minutes plus some. Jackie was amazing and didn't rush us at all. She made sure we understood everything about the bike and had everything we needed regardless of the time. It was really very appreciated. Pack in, pack out I was in town for a few days and it was freezing. I had brought proper outerwear for my business trip but decided to take in an outdoor boot camp and didn't want to wreck my gloves. This REI location saved the day with a good selection of suitable options that were offered online for pickup. Recently used my 20% member coupons to purchase two pairs of size 7 teva sandals, one full-price and the other clearance. When the sandals arrived, they were too big. An employee in REI's shoe section said the smaller size 6s weren't available in the store or in a 50-mile radius. Sadly, I went to the front desk to return the sandals. Tyland handled by return and renewed my faith in customer service! He found both sandals in size 6 in REI's system, gave me my coupon discounts, and shipped them to me. Why is it always that I'm looking for an excuse to go to REI? What is it about their marketing strategy that I'm so willing to dole out my Benjamins? It's probably because, well, everything in here is so pretty and it makes you feel as if you're going camping without all the annoying pieces. Everything in the store is arranged such that you feel like you need it... whether I need it or not, I seem to be buying it. ha! This particular REI location is fairly big and you can pretty much buy all the camping/hiking equipment that you would need here. Caution, REI is pricey and if you intend on shopping here often, I would recommend paying the fee to join their frequent customer card. I will say you will get good quality for the money you pay. Most of the brands here have been vetted and are used by the professionals so if you're an amateur and you don't know what you're doing, you can buy with confidence (you may pay a lot but what you buy is generally good quality). We came by to pick up hiking boots, backpacks and other clothing for a long hike that is coming up. We also looked for other items we plan to buy as we plan our camping trip over the summer. Looking forward to coming back! Parking here is a pain. They always seem busy and there are other businesses that threaten to tow your car if you park in the wrong spot. The employees here are great. Not overly annoying and always seem to know when you really need help. Really appreciate the quick, efficient and knowledgeable service we get here. This location is along the I 85 expressway ... Very reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest, it's a co-op The store is large with several departments that supply all of your outdoorsy needs. I was traveling to the Caribbean so I went here to get some Deet-free super strong mosquito repellent. There were plenty of people on hand to assist, however, it was midday, midweek, and I had to wait a long time for assistance. REI is awesome. I love their cooperative business model. This review update is for REI's online store. I normally shop in-person at the store on the I-85 access road. However, I had a dividend to use and decided to see if I could spend it online. Signing up for an online account on REI's web site is super quick because all you need to register is your name, email address, and zip code. Nothing more. Once I was logged in, I entered my REI membership number and my membership (and associated dividend balance) were immediately linked to my online account. I used the search feature to find a particular North Face jacket I was interested in and the jacket I was looking for landed #1 on the results page. I chose my color and size and was pleasantly surprised to see a free shipping offer on all orders above $50. No shipping cost, Georgia state sales tax was added, and my dividend was applied. I got the jacket for a good deal. The ordering process was a breeze. Note you can have an REI order shipped for free to any REI store for pick-up. I have done this once in-store when the store didn't have my size in stock. That order arrived in a couple days. My online order arrived in less than a week and I couldn't have been more satisfied with the online ordering experience. As mentioned in my original review below, definitely invest $20 in an REI membership. It's totally worth it and pays itself back to you in no time (sometimes instantly). Dividends are good for up to two calendar years after the year you earned the dividend (e.g. a dividend you earn in 2014 won't expire until 12/31/2016). You can receive the dividend in cash or check or apply them as a credit towards a future REI purchase like I did. read more

Was surprised to see on my receipt that I was overcharged for the shoe in the picture. When I went to customer service, the girl explained that the shoe must have been placed in the wrong spot, so it's not their fault and she can "only apologize so many times." She also compared this to when a customer puts a regular priced item on the clearance rack. Unfortunately her thinking is off-base because the display shoes have no tags, prices, or names listed anywhere else except for the sticker placed underneath it. Clothes on a clearance rack have tags that can verify if they belong there. So it IS your fault for misguiding customers with the price advertised under the shoe. If you used tags in or on your shoes then the customer would know that the shoe doesn't match the sticker. It's pretty simple, but seemed difficult for her to understand. I was really turned off by her awful attitude for a service associate and didn't appreciate the dirty look her co-worker shot me, either. Is it really that crazy to expect to pay an advertised price? Based on some other reviews I've read, it's obvious the service team could use some retraining. read more

And I have no shame. I want to live as a hippy, eating weird vegetation off of the land while enjoying the comforts of my REI tent and Osprey backpack - which also magically converts into a pillow - while sipping from the water I decontaminated myself using UV light. I want to hunt elk by throwing my gigantic Thule Car Roof Box at them. This store. I love it. And a lifetime membership only cost $20. Oh, and a lifetime return policy on anything I ever buy here? OMG, just store my credit card information. Seriously, though, for those outdoor enthusiasts, I recommend REI over competing - and sadly even local - stores bidding for your wanderlust money. Tell the staff what your price range is and they'll help you find the best fit for the money. There are usually tons of green-vested employees roaming around, and they are all quite friendly and eager to assist you. Yes, prices are not cheap but if you're lucky, you can often snag discounted merchandise. Just the other day, I picked up a jacket that was 50% off, hooray! Due to my outdoorsy dilettante-ness, I don't have a membership but they seem worthwhile. A lot of my friends have them if that means anything. One drag is that parking can be quite the challenge during big sales. Otherwise, it's quite ample. I recommend coming here with a specific shopping purpose or you could find yourself spending way too much time and money at REI! read more

Customer service is fantastic. $20, one-time fee, life-time membership may be worth it if you will visit this place often. There are many perks to it including 10% off full priced items. Return policy seems great. They ask a few questions. Garage sale (for members only) resells these items (no returns for these highly discounted items though). I went to a garage sale and it was very intuitive. The items are on separate racks from other items. A colored marking indicates how much of a discount for that item (for example, 40, 50, 75% off). Each item is tagged with a clear reason as to why that item was returned (too big for intended purpose, broken zipper, lost tag, etc). I normally don't shop for outdoor, sporty gear so I wasn't intending to frequent this place much. However, with membership and friendly service and easy return policy, I may visit this place again. read more

She knew exactly what I needed and she helped me choose the layers that I needed, the backpack and the gloves with liners. The hand warmers and the toe warmers were also recommended and needed. Following fellow Yelper Lauren S., I'm all about writing about REI, and I will do as enthusiastically as their staff does talk about all the goodies they have for sale. Oh, oh, oh my God, how much I love this store! I used to live a block away from it, and everyday was a torture when passing by it on my way home. I always wanted to stop and shop. "Don't stop, Valentina, don't stop, Valentina, don't stop, Valentina!" was the mantra I had to recite Monday through Sunday, because every time I stopped, the results were at least a couple hundreds off my poor, student-budget-designed bank account. The great news is that everything that I own from REI, even stuff that sometimes takes a vacation inside the memory chest, is in mint condition. You can toss any of the clothing inside the washer and dryer and it'll come out pretty much as new as it was. REI brand is, indeed, great. The quality is top No. 1. I love buying it, as well as taking a long time to peruse in their sale/clearance racks. Because of my work (travel photography everywhere adventurous) I sometimes NEED to stop there to look for stuff for my trips. Not only clothes but also things like eco-friendly repellent, water-resistance packs for my photo stuff and power gels to keep me up when the heat and tiredness hits after hours on the field. All have fully fulfilled their purpose greatly! The only downside is that it can be really pricey. I rarely buy things that are full price unless necessary (especially clothes). But as I get to be treated so nicely, always getting good-hearted and accurate information and support, it kind of makes it up for the $$$ you spend. Oh, and if any of you guys visit Seattle, PLEASE go to REI's flagship store in the Emerald city. As I told Lauren S., you'll open that big door and an angelic choir (along with a heavenly fanfare) will receive you...then, you'll feel the racks grow arms that will hug you dearly. I ordered a pair of hiking boots for a trip 2 days from today, doorbell rang YAY, my boots are here! Opened my box, correction ONE boot is here. Hi Pasia (explained the problem). She was very nice, apologetic, she found a comparable pair close is price a little more than I paId and had to get authorization. Her boss said no way, the customer has to go to a store and see if they have the other shoe (1 hour away). We'll check with the store as well. THEN I got bothered. Pasia checked again with another supervisor and the matter was settled to my satisfaction, BECAUSE of Pasia. Patient, customer focused care. I wish she worked everywhere. read more

Been a longtime REI member and have shopped at multiple locations across the country. Recently came in to pick up some new climbing shoes and a chalk bag. Simple enough. Love that the guy at the checkout counter used my first name the whole time. Not exactly the biggest deal, but talk about a nice gesture of customer service. REI, keep doing what you do best! I have much love for REI. I used to come here often to daydream and wander the store, imagining myself kayaking down the Ocoee or camping out in the woods. It's the outdoor lovers paradise! Then a friend clued me in to the return policy and I was sold on where to finally purchase a tent of my own. Though I wound up buying my tent from the online REI Outlet, this location was very helpful in explaining the various tents to me, what size would be good for a 5 foot girl and her 6'3" boyfriend, and what would fill our basic needs without breaking our bank. There were tons of other camping supplies there as well, so we did wind up picking up a few things here in the end. The Outlet ships right to a store near you for free, and pick up here was super easy. They check everything for you and if I'd found any issue with the tent (hole, missing pole, you name it!) they'd take the tent back without any questions. How's that for customer service! Since then I've become a member and purchased more gear and even running shoes now from them. Sure, some of the items are very expensive, but these aren't your Wal-Mart tennis shoes or a crappy fleece jacket that barely keeps you warm. It's definitely more for the serious outdoorsy person who's looking for something quality to last them a long time. Seems a bit silly that I am going to review REI in that we all know what kind of store it is (or should), but here goes. I love coming here to browse and being someone whose favorite outdoor activity is camping, this place is a great one stop shop. For some reason, I have awful luck with not losing, leaving or misplacing my Nalgene water bottles! This probably means I should stop buying them because they are cursed, but who believes in that? I'm just forgetful and lose my water bottles like a scatter brain. :/ This particular REI is down a road that splits off to 75 so be careful not to accidentally get on the interstate when traveling down the road towards it. Parking is rather confusing, tight and there is even a guard? From the guard sitting in the lot and the signs that say to not leave valuables in your car, you better heed the warning and not leave any item that could be deemed valuable in sight! The employees here are extremely polite and will gladly help you find what you're looking for when asked. They're a pleasure! read more

This place is probably good if you are a camper or hiker or something, but I am giving it a low rating because they are listed under "bikes" on this site, but they are way under par with service in this department. Visit #1: I was shopping for a new bike. The high school kid working in the bike department couldn't answer any of my questions regarding the bikes the store had for sale. He seemed like a dude who rode a bike just because he wasn't old enough to drive yet... Part way through my visit, he had to leave because his shift was over (understandable). But, as I was explaining my needs to the new high school kid that took his place, I was cut off in the middle of my sentence so he could take a phone call, after which he promptly wandered away. Needless to say, I walked out of the store at that point and bought my bike somewhere else. Visit #2: I wanted to order a new seat for my bike which is made by a brand they carry in their store. I was sent to several different people with my request as everyone seemed to be baffled by it. Eventually, I was told I would need to speak with customer service, but their computers were down for the day, so I never got a straight answer and I was told to come back tomorrow. I just ended up buying my parts elsewhere again... Visit #3: I wanted to purchase a bungee net for my bike basket that they have advertised on their website. At least this time the employee assisting me tried to be as helpful as possible (earning the second star for this review)...but he actually worked in the camping department so go figures. The store's computer said that they had 8 of the items in stock, but we searched for 20 minutes and couldn't find anything. I ended up buying some regular bungees from the camping section to tied me over, but will probably end up getting my net from another store. Three strikes your out, REI. I just wish local bikes shops were open until 9pm like you, so I don't have to rush right after work to make it to the stores that close at 6:30 and 7... read more

I used to love REI and have been a member for years, however this location has become worse and worse in regards to customer service. I can only assume there was some corporate decision/mandate telling the employees to spend the majority of their time organizing merchandise, because that's all they do. If you need help with anything that requires their service be prepared to wait, and be aggressive tracking them down. In fact it would probably be both easier and cheaper to just buy it online. Today I needed webbing and a knife. I knew exactly what I needed for both. Waited by the webbing for a good 20 minutes, and nothing. Finally saw an employee rearranging backpacks and jogged to him before he could move to rearranging the next nearby items. He very begrudgingly agreed to cut my webbing. Made it through 2 magazines while waiting, then he came out with no webbing and said "I don't know where the tags are". Made it through another magazine and a good 10 minutes ad standing around before he begrudgingly handed me webbing with instructions about how to explain his homemade price tag to the checkout people. After I looked up from the tag he was gone before I could ask him to help me with the knifes. I wander around until I find someone arranging tents, and ask if he can help with the knives. He walks me to the knives and I look down and find and point out the NRS copilot I was ready to buy, and say "there it is" and look up and he is gone. I wait there at least 20 minutes trying to flag down someone. Thought I made eye contact with 2 separate employees, but I guess they were too busy taking into their ear pieces and rearranging items that are already arranged on the shelves. Well at least the checkout person will ask me if I found everything I was looking for. Nope. Guess that only happens at the grocery store. She was too busy folding stuff behind the counter she barely had time to take my money. And I was the only one in line. I apologized for interrupting her and she said nothing.
