One technician inspected a sewer line and told me it was broken. Another technician later inspected the same line and said it had a "clean bill of health." Despite identifying two issues, the written report I received was only one sentence long. I had to call and ask whether one-sentence reports were now standard practice before I was promised a more detailed report. I should not have had to request basic documentation for a line with known concerns. On another job, a technician identified the sewer as a shared or common line. After obtaining a second opinion, I was told there was no apparent reason anyone would have reached that conclusion. The company's prices have increased, while the quality, consistency, and professionalism of the service I received have declined dramatically. Based on these experiences, I can no longer recommend this company.

Smedley promptly arrived at our home and inspected our 5-year-old leaking water heater, which we had purchased from a big-box store. We were informed that the heater was beyond repair and was offered to replace it with a commercial-grade model that came with a longer warranty offered by Smedley Plumbing. We accepted their offer. A few days later, a single technician arrived with the new water heater. Despite the arduous task of carrying the old unit up the stairs and delivering the new unit to the basement, he managed to accomplish it alone, assisted only by a hand truck. His installation of the new water heater was well designed and flawlessly installed. My primary concern is that we are accustomed to contractors preparing our property to avoid potential damage. This isn't usually a problem because we've never had a contractor who didn't show care and respect for our belongings by wearing special shoe coverings or covering work areas to prevent damage. Contacted the owner (Chase) on Christmas Eve(Sunday) after discovering no hot water and unable to light the pilot. Chase stated he would be here 9:00am Tuesday morning. After performing reviews on our current Whirlpool water heater, could not find a positive review for the unit, so decided no matter what the problem, would have a new one installed. Contacted Chase again to let him know to bring a new unit. Chase arrived on time and right off could tell he was very personable, professional and respectful of property. After going over the Whirlpool unit, he agreed it was time to install a new one. What gave me full confidence is his knowledge of the water heater unit operations, venting, chimney importance(flue through chimney) and root cause of the rust(and how to prevent it in the future) which had accumulated on top of the unit. Another factor was the expansion unit which was totally rusted, preventing water from entering. The goal of Chase's satisfaction was to make sure we were totally satisfied with the install, all questions answered and stepped us through the new unit controls, etc. He uses 'Bradford White' water heaters which are highly rated. Chase is a perfectionist, making sure the unit is level, good drainage and secured a couple copper lines which had broken away from the rafter. I will recommend 'KC Water Heaters' to anyone knowing Chase is the template by which all business owners should follow in 'outstanding' customer service. UPDATE: Last month(12/2025), noticed some water dripping from the overflow valve. Contacted Chase to explain the issue. He came out the next day in the morning and replaced the valve at no cost. After checking the main house water pressure, it was right at 80 which is considered high that may have contributed to the leaky valve. Chase reduced the pressure and everything is working fine. Even after two years, KC Water Heaters provides exceptional customer service.

While it looks like they offer Request-a-Quote (score!) I ended up just calling them as I was out and about. They gave me a two hour window the very next day, then called before they showed up. The tech was the definition of efficient. Friendly enough, not much chit chat, just more or less there to look into things and get the job done. My only slight issue was just a few things that were lost in translation -- they had the address wrong, were not close on spelling my name right, and then the price. They told me they could fix the issue for $135 which I agreed to, then was a bit surprised when the bill was for $209 as the final bill included the parts & labor. No biggie and a very fair price for the tune up and replacement, just would've been nice to know the actual total. The total price did match up with my expectations, so no biggie, just worth noting as I feel like maybe they could automate their bookings/billing just a tad better. TL:DR; I appreciate how fast they were, how they diagnosed and fixed it, and the price point. I'd call them again if the need arises.
