Very busy inside. Cozy and lively today! Service was very polite and the barista explained that my drink takes longer to make. She was brewing fresh coffee for my pour over. I don't mind waiting as they were super nice. Glad I came in. This was my first visit!

I've tried a few things here and nothing has impressed me as much as the cubano! It's smooth, sweet, super delicious and the cinnamon really shines. I added unsweetened almond milk and it was delicious.

    Just an ok breakfast burrito

I feel like there were two different reviews here. I would give my mocha a 4, it was flavorful and a great way to start the day. I would give my breakfast burrito a 3. Coming from arizona, where breakfast burritos are everywhere and competitive, I have to say the burrito here fell short of my expectations. I gave the place of 4 because of the friendly service and comfortable environment.

Good place to grab a bite and coffee around Renton. Good service and I enjoyed their drinks more than their food. I'd come back.

Very cute and cozy cafe. We went when it was a bit busy on a Sunday morning - more seats started clearing up after about 10 am. Had one of their matcha latte's and the avocado toast. Both were tasty - the avocado toast was a bit on the salty side for my taste but paired nicely with the sweetness of the matcha latte. A solid place to visit if you're in the area.

Wanted to try a new coffee spot post gym and this didn't disappoint! Ordered the ube coconut latte with almond milk. Definitely recommend getting it with sweetened almond milk if wanting it on the sweeter side. Personally it was a little too sweet for me so I'd probably order it again with unsweetened almond milk next time. The coconut taste was a bit overpowering but nothing too strong. Quick and friendly service!

    Perfect

It's perfect every time! Friendly staff. Great original, menu selection - no pre packaged stuff.. My favorites are the croissant breakfast sandwich; and avacado toast is a close second when I am feeling healthy. Really comfortable environment - warm, inviting and relaxing. Great job to the staff.

Super cute place with great food & drinks! I come here to study all the time. The dubai chocolate cold brew is my favorite!

Curiosity eventually won, and I'm glad it did. First off, the place itself is on the smaller side, maybe around 15 tables plus a bar top, but it's well organized and efficient. You're immediately greeted by an employee who asks how many are in your party, and before you know it, you're seated with a menu and water in hand. Smooth operation so far. I went all in and ordered the red velvet waffles (because obviously), paired with a milkshake, and my partner ordered the corned beef hash. The wait time was about 20-25 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad at all considering how full the place was. When the food arrived, it was clear why people keep coming back, the portions are generous and easily shareable. The red velvet waffles were amazing. Rich, fluffy, and absolutely worth the order. The corned beef hash was clearly made from scratch, you could tell the corned beef was hand-cut, along with the potatoes and peppers. No mystery meat here. It's served with crispy hash browns and an egg cooked however you like, which is exactly how it should be. Service was great too, super friendly, genuinely nice, and very on top of things. You can tell this place has been around for a while because the staff all seem to have their rhythm down. There's a groove, and it works. All in all, this is a solid spot for breakfast or lunch, and now I understand why it's always busy. Just one important note: they're closed on Tuesdays, so plan accordingly. Enjoy!

They also have a very decent lunch menu as well. I recommend the 12th Man Blue Cheeseburger (with Bacon)! Give them a look, and of course, read the backside of the menu too for a few affordable surprises! You order at the front before being seated which means food arrives shortly after sitting down. With that noted, I wouldn't return to wait that long. First visit, to try a relatively famous spot, sure. Inside is a bit tight, but conversation can be had. My friends got the lumpia-silog and bistek-silog. Lumpia was tasty, but not particularly outstanding. Bistek was dry. The beef was tough to chew, seasoned alright on the outside but likely overcooked if not old. I opted for the oxtail silog which was delicious but pricey. Oxtail Silog - for $29, this plate definitely gets a double take. After waiting in the hour line, I figured I should commit for a tasty meal. Oxtail comes in a side bowl alongside a bit of hearty broth which the rice absorbs well. Meat is tender, falls off the bone, but pulling around oxtail bones isn't the simplest, so definitely have to bite around crevices. All in all, this plate was delicious but think it comes with a huge tourist tax I've had better value for oxtail plates. Ube Pancake Stack - four sizeable pancakes. Some pictures, including my own, don't do these justice. I can definitely get behind the hype. They're drenched in a rich ube sauce and there's plenty to go around. Honestly the ube flavor is present on the pancakes, but it feels relatively faint because the sauce is extremely sweet and flavorful, minimizing the pancake taste and expanding the gap between flavors. That being said, I think I would enjoy the pancakes with less sauce (or preferably, on the side).

I'll be honest--the service felt a bit odd when we first walked in. We were told we could wait a while to get seated at the dinning area or that we could seat ourselves at the bar. Since it was our first time, I wasn't sure if that meant the actual bar counter or tables in the bar area. When I asked for clarification, there was a bit of an awkward pause before someone finally explained we could sit at a table in the bar section. That said, once we got settled, the experience improved. The server who took care of us was very kind and attentive. I ordered my usual go-to at breakfast spots: chicken fried steak with a biscuit. It was really good--definitely hearty and comforting without being overly greasy. That said, it is a heavy meal (fried food plus gravy), so be prepared for a post-brunch nap. The biscuit looked a little underwhelming at first, but it actually tasted great. The overall vibe of the place is very much a local dive bar feel, and the service style matches that. As long as you go in with the right expectations, it makes for an enjoyable, laid-back brunch. Also worth noting--there's a decent amount of parking in the back, which is always a plus. Overall, a solid spot for a casual, no-frills brunch.

I say good riddance. Clearly lots of people liked it, but it was a poor fit for the neighborhood. Some of the food was very good sometimes. But it was uneven. Some people reported great service, but many others reported very poor service. Some of the pictures showed very beautifully presented dishes. And all of it was very expensive. So, sometimes excellent but uneven food quality, sometimes excellent but uneven service quality, and all of it top dollar? This is a place that belonged in downtown Seattle. Downtown Bellevue would have worked too, especially the little strip of old downtown Bellevue on Main street. It would have fit right in there, probably doing gangbuster business right now. But Newcastle?? C'mon. This is deep suburbia. We like good food and good service, but we're generally less patient with uneven quality than downtown hipsters. And we like a good value. After all, a common reason given for high prices in downtown restaurants in Seattle or Bellevue is the expensive rent. But The Coalman's Newcastle rent should have been less. If it wasn't, then choosing that location over downtown was all the more strange. The Coalman was at best an awkward fit for this neighborhood. Here's hoping the next tenant is a better fit. The Coalman's name derived from the old Newcastle coal mine. Given the restaurant's farm-to-table emphasis, why not call a downtown Bellevue version "The Strawberry Field", since Bellevue used to be mostly strawberry farms before WWII?
