For any beginners, you're able to have a free intro class to understand 1) how to best use the reformer, and 2) understand general modifications you can make when starting out (e.g., if you need a waffle mat to help stabilize your core while on the reformer). Some of my favorite classes include the hybrid classes or the Barre class. At times, I feel that the mat Pilates works my core even more than the reformer, making the stretch reformer Pilates classes great on my "off" days.

She's one of my favorite instructors and after taking over 1500+ classes, I think I can now discern the different strengths of the Club Pilates instructors. I hope she continues to sub when her busy schedule allows. What I love about the Gaithersburg Club Pilates are the sheer variety and number of classes that they offer. The instructors are also top notch. My go to instructors are Claire and Ana. Claire because she always incorporates classical Pilates movements and her classes go fast but controlled and you get such a complete workout. She also is a stickler about ensuring that your lower abdominal and other rarely used muscles are always always engaged. And as such she makes us do spring training on the reformer where often times we use the lowest tension spring so that we work on our deep muscles. Ana is the other instructor I take classes from. Her classes are so much fun. She is always changing up her routines and they are so challenging. She's a former dancer and in her cardio sculpt class we get to dance a bit with low pound weights her while she works our arms and booty!

But Fiona completely changed my mind. She was so in tune with what we needed as a group and created an experience that supported both my physical and mental well-being. Today was exactly the reminder I needed about how important it is to care for my whole self, not just my body. I walked out feeling grounded, encouraged, and renewed. I've been coming to Pure Barre in King Farm for about two years. It's a great workout with several…read moredifferent class types that keep things interesting. My two favorite classes are Define, which incorporates weight lifting, and Empower, which is more cardio focused. Classic is also a solid option, and Align is a more yoga based class that can be nice to take in conjunction with Define or Classic. There are classes available at all different times of day. You can come as early as 6am or as late as 7:30pm on some days. I currently have the unlimited membership which allows me to come to as many classes as I want each month. With this package, I can also participate in the Platinum Barre challenge which requires you to complete at least 15 classes per month for an entire year. I've completed it once and am trying to get it done again this year. Overall, I feel my physical and mental health have improved significantly since I started working out at Pure Barre. I highly recommend it if you're looking for exercise that is engaging and easy to pick up. The instructors are also wonderful and very kind!

I moved from Virginia to Maryland in…read moremid-2014 and had to leave behind a top notch pilates studio in McLean (Pengu) I was surprised to find it difficult to locate a new studio of the same caliber within a reasonable driving distance. I tried a couple of places and ended up using one near Shady Grove Hospital that was just okay. Okay because I already had experience and could do some corrections by myself. Not great. I tried a studio in Kentlands that was great, but it closed shortly after my first class. So I looked northward to Germantown and found CoMMotion. I had found my studio at last. The pilates studio only has 4 Reformers, so there is a lot of opportunity for personal attention from the instructors. If classes are smaller than 4, the instructor usually takes advantage of the tower and the Cadillac machines. The drive from Gaithersburg is about 5 minutes against traffic. I usually take classes with Bonnie, the owner of the dance studio co-located with the pilates studio. Because she is a dancer, she is alert to the minutiae that make a big difference in the changes pilates can make to your body.

This studio had been my home for many years, until I became an instructor myself. They then welcomed me back as a teacher, which was an incredible honor- to teach at the very same studio where I began to fall in love with the practice of yoga. I highly recommend this studio. While I no longer teach here due to distance, I love all the other instructors and the classes they offer! The entire staff is cognizant of and involved in social justice, diversity, and inclusivity and are passionate about connecting with each student to create a welcoming environment. Love this place!
