Her instructions are simply amazing. This is a smooth running operation that provides a top notch service and I love referring people because I know they will be as happy as I have been with the experience. I like to refer my clients (I have owned a personal training company for 20 years), because there are certain elements of health and fitness that are beyond my scope and the Pilates and Yoga piece are a great compliment to my services. Thanks and keep up the good work!!

I take Pilates, yoga (Iyengar) and Pilates Total Fitness (a brutal...brutally awesome!) hybrid class. The yoga classes are great. Each instructor takes the time to correct, and the focus is less on speed and more on holding the pose. While each teacher's style varies (some focus on sequences, others don't) I always walk away feeling that light headed, wobbly muscle yoga feeling. The Pilates practiced at Balance is "Power Pilates" which I've learned is a classic form. I've taken both reformer and mat, and both are great workouts. Last is Pilates Total Fitness. All I have to say is these classes, especially the one with Jane, will make you weep..but in a good way, I promise!

The owner, Laurel, runs the business as more of a community, getting to each and every student on a personal level. You will truly feel attached to this amazing studio and more importantly, feel able to easily connect with the other students and teachers. Laurel is a brilliant teacher, teaching the most amazing iyengar yoga that I've ever been to. She reaches far to all by including classes of specific levels, such as gentle classes, for a more low profile stretch with low impact on joints etc, or classes such as her teens yoga group in which she includes teens from a wide variety of schools. She even hosts events and creates events such as taking the teens yoga group to India over the summer. Laurel's teaching skills and years of practice are carried over into each and every one of her outstanding teachers. Each teacher has a focus and style of yoga that they teach but they wonderfully exceed my expectations and teach classes that make you want to come back ever single day. Sweetbay Yoga is filled with caring and lovable people and Laurel has created a community unlike anything else. This quaint yoga studio cares greatly about costumer service and Laurel is available at almost every hour of the day to help anyone who wants more information or needs help for anything. I've been to other bigger and franchised yoga studios and could never imagine going back now. After starting yoga classes at Sweetbay 4 years ago, the idea of a yoga studio was pleasantly redefined for me, showing me how the studio can give me a wonderful community and classes, something I never felt from the franchised yoga studios. I love everything about Sweetbay and the people who make it what it is today. Thank you Sweetbay!!

On Sunday I suddenly decided to try yoga for the first time. I googled yoga places near by and…read morefound Allay Yoga which was offering a yoga workshop in about an hour. I decided to try it out. The place was literally 5 minutes away from my house, so it was very convenient to get there. They have only a couple of parking spots available in front of the building, so I was not sure if I can park next door, but took my chances and everything was fine. When I stepped in to the studio, I was surprise how small it was. It was just one room in the front and one in the back. I was welcomed by the instructor and filled out a short form. The workshop lasted for 2 hours and was an overall introduction to yoga. It was very nice, I enjoyed the session. There was about 7 people, 5 women and 2 men. I liked the pace and that the instructor talked about the different poses. Overall it was a great experience for my first time yoga and I will definitely come back for some classes - if my schedule allows or I will try another studio close by. But this experience gave me a go ahead for yoga and that was my goal! Thank you!

However, once I discovered Allay Yoga in the Fall of 2010, I was hooked and have been exclusively at Allay since. The absolute best thing about Allay is Pam, one of the instructors. On the first day I went to the studio, she inquired about my yoga experience, my level of comfort with different styles and poses, what parts of my body were open and tight, and even the style of music I liked. Then, this is the best part, she incorporated my unique desires and needs into that class session and everyone thereafter. Pam even goes so far as to ask at the start of each session what kind of practice we want that day, and then leads a class that reflects our desires. This means that some days we focus on deep stretches, some days are more restorative, and others push us to find our edge. I also love the small class sizes and Pam's hands-on approach. I am a fairly advanced yogi, so I enjoy going beyond the basic sun salutation. Pam always provides opportunities for more advanced poses, even when others in the class are at a beginner level, but always is there to guide my body into alignment. This is the definition of individualized attention and the reason that I am dedicated to this studio.

I had always wanted to try CorePower Yoga after hearing great things from friends. I signed up for…read moretheir free one week trial (this applies to all studios, unlimited classes for a week). If you do not bring your own mat, rentals are $2 and if you do not bring your own towel, rentals are $1... water is $2 I believe. Lockers are provided, but you need to bring your own lock. I am surprised that there are rental fees for mats and towels, this is the first time I have ever encountered this at a yoga studio. Other studios usually have a handful of mats in case students forget theirs at home, I guess the rental fees make sense if alot of students at CorePower depend on the studio for mats. The studio is very clean and spacious. The locker room area even has several showers! I was impressed with the amount of space, the studio space for the classes has wooden floors... or what appears to be wooden floors, but softer and squishier... some type of foam? I loved it! It was easy on my feet :) I attended two Yoga Sculpt classes during my free trial. The Yoga Sculpt classes are really unique, different from your typical yoga class. It is a combination of weights, basic yoga moves (downward dog, warrior, etc) and some cardio (jumping jacks, running in place, etc). The room is heated which makes the workout that much harder. If you get overwhelmed with the heat, instructors encourage you to either take a break in childs pose on your mat or step outside the room for some air. I am so glad that CorePower Yoga is a part of Class Pass, I definitely plan on coming back for another class soon. Parking is always a hassle in Bethesda, luckily there is an underground parking garage behind the studio. Parking is free for up to two hours with validation from the studio. The garage gets zero cell phone reception so I kind of get some horror movie vibes when I am down there. CorePower Yoga's latest class ends at 9pm I believe, so plenty of people still out and about in Bethesda which calms my paranoia :P

I called Circle Yoga because it seemed like the friendliest studio in town and had the level one class i needed available. The receptionist was lovely. The teacher was terrific. It was a warm and compassionate space. The bookstore offerings were varied and not just stuff is seen everywhere else before. I only wish i could have returned for the sound accompanied class the next night but family scheduling wouldn't allow for that. My concern is several classes were virtual only. I can't speak for everyone but I don't have the space to do a proper yoga class in my living room. Had I known this up front I wouldn't have signed up as this has meant missing several classes. There is an option take another class to make up for the class. I was able to do this once. But with my work schedule it's not easy to do so. In the future please be more up front with your students if not all the sessions will be in person. (Maybe it was mentioned and I didn't notice...it's possible. But it wasn't so clearly stated. If it had burn. I wouldn't have signed up) Sadly with this in mind I am less inclined to take another class. I may be paying less than other students but in the end did I actually save anything having missed several classes? **update: Anne, the owner, responded to this quickly. She apologized for the confusion and gave me a credit for the classes that were virtual only. Her excellent customer service and timely response are highly appreciated. I was pleased with both. And the class was excellent.
