I've been coming to Pure Barre in King Farm for about two years. It's a great workout with several different class types that keep things interesting. My two favorite classes are Define, which incorporates weight lifting, and Empower, which is more cardio focused. Classic is also a solid option, and Align is a more yoga based class that can be nice to take in conjunction with Define or Classic. There are classes available at all different times of day. You can come as early as 6am or as late as 7:30pm on some days. I currently have the unlimited membership which allows me to come to as many classes as I want each month. With this package, I can also participate in the Platinum Barre challenge which requires you to complete at least 15 classes per month for an entire year. I've completed it once and am trying to get it done again this year. Overall, I feel my physical and mental health have improved significantly since I started working out at Pure Barre. I highly recommend it if you're looking for exercise that is engaging and easy to pick up. The instructors are also wonderful and very kind! read more

I have been coming to Pure Barre Rockville for I think over 5 years. I have taken just about 1250 classes. It has changed my life in turns of working out. It is absolutely the best thing I ever did. The people who come are so friendly, the teachers are great and pay attention to you, and call you by name. They recently added a new class format Define and it is such an amazing add on to the other formats. It incorporates a still head to toe workout but with weight lifting. I can see definition in my muscles. I still love classic and empower which are my two other favorites class and make sure i attend those too. You really need to try a free class. read more

I've been to the studios periodically throughout the years, and I'm finally taking advantage of my intro month while things are slowly opening back up after the coronavirus shutdowns. The studio was following COVID-19 precautions and social distancing very well, with marked areas for each patron and equipment laid out beforehand (ball, double tubes, 2 sets of weights, and a mat). Everything felt very clean and well maintained, and I always felt like I had ample amounts of space in my area. The instructor I had on Monday (Una) was very good, helping us through modeling and explicit directions, as well as walking around to make sure our form was correct without physical touch. They have great customer service and I always feel very welcomed when I come work out. I can't wait to attend my next class! read more

I am entering this review on 7/21 in the hopes of filling my bingo card spot. This is maybe the second time I have typed in yelp. Pure barre is effective, but might not be very wallet friendly at first. (One can get reimbursed from fsa for this) this location has been open for at least 10 yrs as of this post. The teachers are very friendly and ensure that the student has proper form and do their best to help you. The class sizes are usually about under 15 people, but the classes around 530pm have lots of people (15+) and parking for this location is shared with other shops like Safeway. At this time, there are 4 types of classes: classic, empower (cardio leaning), define (has weights) align (stretch/balance/flexibilty) and the intro class: engage. A person might get a gift after 10,50, 100, 250, 500, 750, 1000 classes... hope that helps. I admit it took me a while before I signed up for the unlimited, but I do admit it's effective. read more

However, after I went back consistently for a week; I noticed a big improvement. I finally got the moves down and felt toned immediately! They have a variety of class options. It's been about 9 months that I've been attending classes at Pure Barre Rockville. They continue to impress me with the attention to detail, friendliness, and overall experience. The classes never let up. The instructors are always pushing you to keep working without taking it to the point of injury. That is one of the nicest things about here. It is low impact and you're not competing with anyone. You are encouraged to listen to your body and work at your level and pace. I tried Pure Barre a while ago. Personally, I think that people who are not as passionate about exercise as others (me!) have a tough time finding something that fits their needs. I have completed 10 classes and WOW- what a difference I already feel in my body! The classes usually have about 7-10 people which is great, and on the one time I went on a Saturday it was full (15+ in a tiny room was kinda of hard) What I love about Pure Barre is that they learn your name- they ask you a couple questions if you are new, help you get set up and it's like when you were the new kid at school and everyone wants to talk to you- it does happen, because people want to know so you love it, give their own stories, encourage you, etc. it just helps with the experience All the instructors are AMAZING- I honestly believe Tristine is the sweetest person alive, Jessica makes you feel like you can do anything and Jill the owner- have a question or need help- always ALWAYS there! I once didn't get checked in and got an email about not attending and called the studio and Jill fixed the problem immediately and apologize and honestly it wasn't a big deal but the fact that it was taken care so quickly was great! I'm so glad I picked PB Twinbrook/ Rockville (you can go to both studios if you have the membership which you should just signed up and think about it honestly it's that great!) I took a 4:45p class with Kat. I showed up about 10 minutes before the start of class to fill out the new student form. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The class was great. It was a bit difficult to get the hang of the movements and the pacing but I just assume that's a part of being a beginner. Even though I probably didn't do half of the movements right, I felt sore the next day, so I count it as a success. Kat gave me advice throughout class, adjusting my positioning and explaining how the movement was supposed to work. We started with a warm-up to get your heart rate up and stretch, then some exercises with weights, a small ball and a circular tube, used to offer resistance. All of the exercises can be done without the props. It was a lot of transitioning back and forth between the bar and the floor--Again, probably something that you just have to get used to. The class went by really quickly and you do work up a sweat. I don't know if I would make this a part of my usual workout but I would definitely come back to drop into a class just to shake things up. read more

This place is awesome! Pure Barre is the perfect place to tone and shape. Although you may not break a sweat here, you'll be sure to feel the burn. The staff is super friendly making sure to address everyone by name and takes your feedback very seriously. The studio is small but quaint and is well equipped with bathrooms to clothing and accessories, everything to accommodate their clientele. Minus one star for the price. This was my first visit to the studio and while every class/instructor is different, I'll give my first impression of the Saturday 11AM class I took with Kat. I'm introducing barre class to my mom and Kat was super sweet and friendly, demonstrating a few moves to us newbies before class. During class, she was also very attentive at providing individualized guidance to my mom despite the language barrier. Compared to the Bar Method classes I've taken, I found that there were much more circular movements and greater emphasis on the "tucking" motion. The class definitely had a longer and dedicated seat work section. However, I thought the arms and legs portion was a bit weaker and surprised that we did not spend as much time on our toes. In my opinion, there seems to be a greater emphasis on posture and alignment during the Bar Method classes. I would have benefited if Kat talked through the proper form and moves a bit more and provided more modifications to meet the various fitness levels. In terms of the space, the studio is rather small and the class was really packed. Overall, i was not sore today as I had expected, probably because I was also paying more attention to make sure my mom was doing the moves properly. I have never been a huge fan of working out. I was hoping for that magic pill to get me beach body ready. I tried diets but realized I loved eating too much. I tried Zumba but found my ankles and knees started to hurt from the high-compact moves. I tried yoga but got headaches from some of the positions. That all changed when I discovered Pure Barre Rockville. I decided to check it out after seeing people I knew from college rave about Pure Barre on social media. When I walked into PBR I was nervous as can be not knowing what I was getting myself into. Jill, the owner, at the front desk was super friendly and instantly made my nerves go away. I signed up for the new client special and decided to challenge myself to go every day. My first class was way more challenging than I thought. I have never done so many crunches, push ups, and curls in my life. After class #2, I was a Pure Barre addict. I love the high-intensity, low impact workout that Pure Barre offers. I had spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis 11 years ago and I appreciate how there are modifications for me and that I can still do the majority of the workouts. The instructors here are all amazing and will bend over backwards to make sure you get your best workout. Even though the price of classes are higher than the majority of any other workout studios, I found Pure Barre worth the splurge. The more classes you go to, the cheaper they will be and the faster you will see results. I have been doing Pure Barre for the past 5 weeks and have seen my hips slimming, and muscles toning in my arms and legs. The classes were challenging but the atmosphere was so encouraging and supporting I decided to try a sample membership. Fast forward almost a year later and I can't see my life without Pure Barre. My core and my body is stronger and it is perfect cross training with my running. The instructors are friendly and helpful. In one word...Addicting! I never craved working out until I tried Pure Barre. I have finally found a work out that does not seem like an obligation. I look forward to the workout itself, and the resulting after-class- total-body-euphoria. What is that?!! The Routine: The routine is in this order: warm-up, legs, butt (seat), abs, and then your arms get worked during the warm-up and during the routine. The warm-up is typically the same, but the moves for the other parts of the routine are changed up during each class. You will use weights, a ball, a tube (single or double), and a mat during each 55 minute class. The Results: I had noticeable results after just 4 classes. My butt was so much firmer and lifted and I developed the most definition I have ever had in the back of my upper thighs. I have always been on the thin side, but have rarely had any muscle tone. After 16 classes, I noticed significant changes to my triceps and biceps and even received a random compliment on my trapezius muscle (I didn't know what that meant, and had to look it up). After about 20 classes, I've noticed substantial changes in my obliques and am able to really isolate individual muscles in my body. Overall, I've gotten more compliments on my body in the short time I have been attending Pure Barre classes (5 weeks, 20 - 25 classes) than I have in the past 5 years combined. Bonus result - at the store, I was able to carry a 20 lb box of cat litter with one hand f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Normally it would require two hands and about 20 breaks along the way. Proud moment! First Time: Your first class can be intimidating. There are some strong women in the class who have been attending for a year, and it shows. But there are also attendees of all experience levels and body types. People can appear to keep to themselves and many times have very serious "barre faces" on when they are concentrating, but the more you engage, you will find everyone to be very friendly and encouraging. The Rockville location does a good job of creating a community, sponsoring challenges, and hosting after-class get-togethers in the studio to celebrate individual accomplishments. The instructors are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Ask them anything, anytime! I questioned them to death in the beginning!! Here are some other tips if you are new to Pure Barre: 1) The class is fast paced and the moves can be a bit confusing. The pace and moves are more manageable the more often you attend and the stronger you get. You'll figure it out eventually. Until then, ask questions. 2) Proper form requires micro movements and isometric holds. Moves are typically tiny and barely noticeable. Watch the Tuesday's Technique Tip videos on YouTube (channel: purebarrecompany) for helpful explanations. 3) If you get lost in class, look for the teacher or someone wearing black socks with red writing on them. Those people have attended 100+ classes so they have experience. BTW, you can purchase sticky socks for $12-15 at the studio. 4) Attend a "Breaking Down the Barre" class as soon as you can. The moves are demonstrated at a slower pace and you can ask questions during the class. Super helpful! 5) Don't overdo it. I was staying in plank position for too long too early on and was having back pain. I am now slowly building up to a longer plank time and my back feels great! Don't be afraid to modify! 6) The routine is challenging, but completely doable! There are moments where I want to scream, but then it's over and I've yet to regret the burn. Class is exponentially harder if you take two days off in a row. I love almost everything about it. The Rockville studio is great and the instructors are fantastic. However, I would be remiss not to mention the very few cons I have noticed: 1) Entryway: There is not much room in the entry way, so it can get crowded. I typically try to arrive 5 minutes before class to avoid the entry way rush. 2) Schedule: The schedule is not ideal for me so I end up having to take leave from my job to attend class each day. The latest class on Friday is at 5:30 pm, the latest class on Saturday is at 11:00 am and on Sunday there is a gap between the 11:00 am class and the 4:00 pm class. 3) Cost: The classes are expensive. The best price offered is a 12-month unlimited auto-contract for $165 per month ($300+ cancellation fee), but if you attend 5 days per week, that's approximately $8 per class. There are other occasional opportunities for discounts on full priced packages during sales or challenges. Also they offer substantial discounts for students, teachers, and military personnel. A decent workout, expect a lot of burning muscles the next day. My instructor was great and helpful as was the lady at the front desk. But there was a pretentious atmosphere that you just don't see in other places. For example, as it was my first time trying pure barre, I wasn't aware that yoga pants are required and shorts STRICTLY banned. After notifying me of the policy, the lady at the front desk walked to the studio to get the green light from whom I presume to be the owner to let me participate with shorts on. The owner rolled her eyes and said "Just this once..." (not realizing I was standing right behind her). Not the best way to make people feel welcome and not a place I want to spend my time or money. read more

The best thing I can say about Pure Barre Rockville is RESULTS. I lost roughly 10 lbs doing Pure Barre right before my wedding and was in the best shape of my life. My dress was skin-tight at my fitting, and by my wedding day the waist area was actually too big. My arms also looked super toned in all of my photos. It is worth every penny. Jill is the owner of the Pure Barre salon and she is so friendly and professional. At first the class can seem intimidating, but once you get the hang of it you realize that 1) there is a wide diversity of people in the class, which is always great to see (not just a sea of Lulu Lemon though there is a bit of that:); 2) the instructors really care, and will help guide you to make the most out of your time; finally 3) the workout is phenomenal and targets all of the areas that are most beneficial for getting strong and lean. I have done just-running workout regimens before and it DOES NOT have results like Pure Barre. The worst mistake women make is to do only cardio to change their shape. Resistance training and weights make for lean muscles that burn fat all day long. Do yourself a favor and sign up! After having knee surgery, I was looking for a low impact workout that would help keep me in shape and continue to challenge me physically. I was extremely intimidated by my first class (a few years ago), but I kept going back with the encouragement of the other women and teachers! I love having a place to workout that feels like a community where everyone is encouraging, friendly, and fun to be around. Jill (the owner) is wonderful and nearly every teacher will do what they can to help you modify exercises if need be. The majority of the teachers genuinely care about their clients and will do everything they can to make class a good experience for everyone involved. It has helped keep me sane through many different phases of life and there are so many classes in the schedule that no matter what my day looks like, I feel like I can always find a class that can fit somewhere into my schedule. The music is great, the community is wonderful, and we are really lucky to have some fantastic teachers. I absolutely LOVE Pure Barre. I bought an Amazon Deal that offered 2 weeks of unlimited classes for $45 (yes that was a steal!!)... I enjoyed every minute of those classes. It is very challenging but you have to "embrace the shake." I hate I had to stop going. Once my two week deal was up, I had to call it quits (for right now). I can't afford the monthly membership. Yes they have a new client deal for $99, but after that it is soooo expensive. For now, I will stick with my $30 membership at LA Fitness and work out there. Facility is super clean, teachers are supportive & upbeat. The work out is exhausting, and to fully participate you have to be in relatively good shape in the first place. If you can get a groupon or sign up for the monthly subscription it'd be worth it, but taking classes piece meal is expensive. It's also really easy to spend a ton of money on merch/clothing, as most of the people in class & teachers (at least the ones I went to) are dressed to the nines in layered lululemon, or the clothing & accessories sold at the shop. There's no talking during class, but before & after you get a sense that some of the women are really invested in one another- its cultish, but in a good way; a sense of community. So if you want to tighten up, make new friends, and have excess income, it's an amazing place to work out. read more

I tried this studio out as part of the summer passport series last summer. The studio retail space was very nice but the studio was just a typical studio space with the weird drinking fountain in the studio and toilet access just off the studio. The class I took was taught by a very effective teacher who used set ups that were easy to get into but created muscular burn early in each series. Parking is convenient and free in the shopping center. Too bad this location is so far from me! read more

I love Pure Barre! I really don't normally enjoy group fitness classes, but I did the new client first month unlimited special and really enjoyed it! I went about 4 times per week and got to meet almost all the instructors. I especially loved Jill and Laura's classes, but all of the instructors are great and very motivating. The equipment and studio are very clean and modern, and class sizes are small so you get lots of personal instruction and attention. It's a great workout and very fun! I am truly obsessed with Pure Barre Rockville. After committing to cross training for my spring half marathon I started taking barre classes regularly. The studio is close to my house, the classes are frequent and at really convenient times. The best part of Pure Barre Rockville are the teachers. They are so knowledgeable and fit. Love it! To start, I purchased a two week unlimited classes Living Social deal. I took six classes in those two weeks and started noticing changes as early as my fourth class. Even the hubby noticed. I then purchased the $99 New Client Special (unlimited classes for a month). After it ran out, I was able to purchase the New Mommy package (unlimited classes for three months) since the wee one is under 18 months. Yesterday marks my 75th class. 25 more classes and my name goes on that barre. I can't wait. I enjoy going to class every day and I don't feel bad about being away from the kids for those 55 minutes. I ran marathons before my third child arrived and I always felt bad when I went out for long runs. I would run at 4:30 am so I could be home when they got up but I would be dead tired later in the day. At Pure Barre, I usually attend the 8 pm or 8:30 pm classes during the week and the 7:15 am or 8:30 am classes on weekends The location in King Farm is great. There's parking right in front or around the corner. You can do some retail shopping when you enter. I try to be good but something always catches my eye. There are two well-kept bathrooms. The studio space is always clean and the equipment is wiped down after every class. The staff is amazing! They have such a wonderful attitude and great energy. All the instructors take the time to learn your name and acknowledge you in class when you're performing well. If they need to correct you at any time they do it privately. They take the time after class to answer questions or help you with positions if you need them. They really seem to care about each individual's progress which makes it motivating to come back. Yes, it is pricey but it's so worth it. You're meeting great people (instructors and other attendees). You're getting a great work out in a short amount of time.
