Not overwhelmed by this establishment. First and foremost, the service was slow - we waited over an hour for food on a Monday at lunch time, and a bit painful - having to wait 25 minutes for waters and repeatedly ask for a salt shaker. We had a party of five people. All three people who ordered burgers (cooked medium) said they were absolutely over cooked. One person had a 6 oz. steak, salad and sweet potato fries - not cheap which is to be expected but she thought it all tasted good. The last had a Cuban sandwich and a smothered lettuce wedge which was definitely the talk of the table. As a final thought, outdoor seating may not be the best choice. The patio chairs were some of the least comfortable I've ever sat in, the outdoor speakers blared loud, whiny music, and when our food finally arrived, we became so obnoxiously swarmed by flies that we couldn't even take a moment away from swatting to enjoy it. I realize that some of these factors may be beyond the restaurant's control, but I thought I'd include all the details that went in to making this only a 3-star experience. I may eat here again, with the sole intention of trying the corned beef sandwich, which looked epic, but overall, not a jaw-dropping experience. read more

I was excited to try a new trendy restaurant in Spearfish and we were not disappointed. Trisha was our server and she helped to make our experience a great one! My husband had the flank steak and I had the salmon. Both were delish! $5 glasses of wine and $5 dessert was definitely a perk as well! We returned with my family in a party of 8 and my infant. And a great time was had by all! Beer from next door was a great addition! I tried the pork chop my second time around and LOVED every part of it: apples, potatoes, Brussels sprouts! Delish! Bummed to say the least. I asked it i could substitute chicken on a sandwich, the sever said it would be no problem. I was served two kids chicken strips on a plain white bun. Needless to say I didn't eat it, Server didn't even ask if there was a problem, and still charged me $16.00 for two frozen chicken strips and a hand full if fries. Garbage. read more

Wow, that was a horrible experience. After waiting 30 minutes for a table (that part was fine), we ordered and waited almost AN HOUR for food. No bread. No salad. No explanation. And no apologies. When we asked we were told one of the chefs walked out and they were understaffed. Tables all around us were frustrated. My complaint is not the hour, but how it was mishandled. The waiter and manager should have been at every table to explain, apologize, then bring you SOMETHING while you are waiting. Then the food finally came and it was so mediocre. Clearly previously frozen. The $22 steak has just 6 slices of steak. The beet salad had hardly any beets, they were canned, and it was overdressed. And in the midst of all this, they kept seating people and not warning them. Too bad. read more

First time diners...Sat outside. Good service by Michelle, however the chairs are slightly uncomfortable. I enjoyed the wedge salad with added chicken. My husband had steak street tacos and is still raving about them...huge chunks of steak, melted cheese, cilantro and a slightly grilled tortilla, all for $15...drink service was very good. The food here was great as was the service. It wasn't busy at all and I'm not sure why since it was so good! It is also attached to the Spearfish Brewing Company and serve their beers which were also delicious. I love different food, but their Mac-n-cheese was the best I've ever had!! We ate dinner at Redwater Kitchen right after our visit to D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery so we were pretty hungry. I ordered the Ceasar Salad. My husband had the mac n' cheese with bacon and thought it was just perfect,  creamy and crunchy. Esther had the most interesting out of all the meals we ordered. She had the strawberry, avocado, and chickpea sandwich which she enjoyed due to all the flavor and how well she thought it went together. Peter had the tri tip sandwich and thought the brie cheese sauce was a great addition to a French dip. We all got dessert which included ice cream, cheesecake, and the daily dessert, a apple tart. All of them had good presentation and were enjoyable. When we left we were full and really enjoyed the experience. read more

Stopped for a light early dinner on our way back from Devils Tower to Custer. Visiting in the area, and with no time to really decide ahead of time where to go, we saw this restaurant and took a chance on it because we wanted outdoor seating cause we had our dog with us. We walked in and looked at the menu and liked what we saw. Prices struck us as very reasonable too! I ordered the grilled Caesar but asked that the lettuce not be grilled-which was no problem. The salad came with no protein which was fine too. Presentation was unique- a whole uncut heart of romaine laid on the plate with toppings on the top. It looked awesome and it was a really nice sized salad for a meal. My husband got the Cobb salad with no blue cheese. His salad was very large and tasty as well. Service was very fast and our server good & very nice. Highly recommend stopping in here! read more

Honestly the best meal we've had in a long time! If you're in the area i highly recommend stopping. The food was delicious! Lizzie, our server, was amazing! So friendly, outgoing, and genuine! The bar manager, Ariel, makes a mean Hulk Smash! We wish we'd have found this restaurant earlier in our trip as we'd have stopped many times! I think we dodged a bullet here after reading some of the reviews! We have a service dog and can sit inside any restaurant we go to. We try to sit outside when we can. There were two tables available outside and my husband went inside to get us seated there. The restaurant was 25% full yet the hostess told him we would have to wait 15 mins to get seated. He came back outside and told me. I was amazed. He went back in and was told we could wait outside but would not give us a menu. When my husband asked if they would recommend another restaurant with outside seating he was told Killans. Which is where we went and had a great meal. read more

This place is a shining beacon of light in a desert of mediocre traditional American food. We were there for lunch on a Friday and had no trouble being seated right away -- a blessing for our tired and grouchy road trip crew. Interior is spacious, pleasant and quiet enough to hear your seat mates speak. Wait staff was friendly and prompt (initially), brought us waters and made recommendations. The menu is varied, with several salad options, as well as a variety of dishes for the health conscious. I opted for the superfood salad with grilled chicken. It was OK. It needs less spinach, the quinoa needs to be seasoned and they NEED to dress the meat with the salad and it would be perfect. For now, it is squarely OK. Our server sort of disappeared for the second half of our time there, which was unfortunate. Still, Redwater stands out as best among all your Spearfish options -- don't miss it. read more

Food was excellent (Shrimp and Burger) drinks were also fantastic- try the Redwater Refresher. Our server Mason was also great!

The Not Your Mama's Grilled Cheese was the perfect blend of unexpected flavors and prepared to perfection. The shrimp pasta had an earthy, mushroom inspired sauce that was a pleasant surprise and very filling. We would gladly eat here again. read more

Restaurants are just starting to open up following the shut down and this is the first place we've been to. Menu is limited probably due to the limited amount of patrons restaurants can now service. We ordered two apps. The cauliflower was just OK. Although in all honesty, we probably aren't big cauliflower people. The cauliflower pieces were very large and heavily breaded. Our server did mention they've been on the menu though since they opened. We also ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. If you like mushrooms, these were to die for. Good size mushrooms with lots of sausage stuffing. The marinara sauce they were baked them was also very nicely seasoned. Our service was great. We also ordered one of the cocktails, which was very delicious. They used fresh Strawberries in the refresher and had homemade lemonade as well. Good place for a casual outing. read more

Liz was our server, she was SUPER friendly and attentive. We had Reuben, Brussels sprouts, superfood salad with chicken along with beer/wine. Reuben was outstanding. Loved the Brussels sprouts... unique hot-sweet combo was delicious. The superfood salad was mostly greens - would have liked more quinoa. Chicken portion was smaller than expected but very tasty. It was a nice cool day, and after the wife and I were trapped in the house for some time (due to the flu) it was tome for an adventure. We decided to fill our bellies with some eats before we made our way to Spearfish Brewing and what did we find next door, but Redwater Kitchen. We walked in and we're some of the few as the place just opened, but the atmosphere is what I've come to enjoy. Clean, well lit, a stocked bar displaying all of the options, and a staff that is there for their customers. We were seated and given menus. The options were great. The daily special was what I was going to enjoy. I remarked about tacos on the drive up, and low and behold. That was the special for the day. Woot! Our meals were great. The flavors and presentation were all there, and the kitchen was able to accommodate my wife's food allergies so that was a bonus as well. The server was on their game and it was all around a great time. I'm glad we left the house that day, and I'm glad that we found Redwater Kitchen. It was a good way to start my Spearfish experience and it has me wanting to visit the city that much more. read more

Traveling through Spearfish, we chose the Redwater Kitchen for dinner. I was really looking forward to the Charred beet salad but found it disappointing. The beets were not charred but seemed boiled and a little slimy. The goat cheese croquettes were delicious though. As a whole the salad was a mishmash of incoherent flavors and the lox was totally out of place. I decided to try Walleye, having never had it. The fish was delicious but the skin was a flabby mess. It should either have been crispy or removed before serving. The crispy rice cakes were surprisingly very good. The asparagus was undercooked for my taste but probably not for others. My companion enjoyed her chicken piccata which appeared to be deep fried. Unusual. She loved the Brussels sprouts. The highlight for her was ordering a flight of 5 beers from the adjacent Spearfish brewery. If I had just ordered just the goat cheese croquettes and the rice cakes, this would have been 5 stars. But the flabby fish skin and the slimy beets were very unappetizing. read more

Not sure what was the issue with the long wait before being seated the host was definitely getting his steps in for the day, but the wait was well worth it. The corned beef sandwich was served on perfectly grilled marble rye with crispy hot fries. The pasta was very good. The the grilled fish tacos were very lite and fresh. Highly recommended. We came in for lunch with a party of nine and five of them were kids who are picky eaters. Everything was good. I had a tri-tip sandwich, really good. Several of the kids had the Mac & Cheese and it is not your Kraft style, they all loved it. Our group also had the Strawberry Avocado Chickpea Sandwich and Chicken Salad Sandwich. Both were great. I haven't been reviewing many places lately, but I felt compelled to give these fine folks a shout out for fine food in a casual, clean environment. My wife and I had the provalette, Korean chicken, and ribs. Everything was as good as you could imagine. Add to the great food and atmosphere, the people who work there made us out-of-towners feel right at home. Great food! My wife and I split the Jalepeno burger and fries, and added a side salad. It was enough for for us. Total bill $19.35 More importantly, it was one of the best burgers we've had in a while. The Jalepeno chips on the burger were fried, the burger was high quality meat, and the onion was purple pickled onion slaw. The service was fast and friendly. We've had a number of meals in the Deadwood area that have been only so-so. This has been our best meal on this trip so far. read more
