This is probably the best restaurant I ever been to and I got to experience it on a Saturday all alone in peace. I visually analyzed the menu and thought of what I should get as everything looked quite appetizing. I decided to go for the pretzel bites that tasted like clouds and was even better with the jalepeno queso it came with. For the entree, I chose the jalepeno burger which was amazing, juicy, and definitely not frozen. The patty was bigger than the bun by about 5 percent and the buns were nicely buttered. My serotonin levels rose during this experience and when I got home, I fell into a food coma that I haven't awoken from for 14 hours. This place is the goat and I'll be back read more

Boyfriend and I came to visit Deadwood but found there was not a lot to eat there. Stumbled upon Redwater kitchen and Spearfish brewery next door after a hike at Devil's Tower. Enjoyed probably our best meal in this entire trip to South Dakota. Had two servings of beer cheese soup, the avocado toast was excellent, Swedish meatballs were to die for, and salmon beet salad plus strawberry salad with chicken were amazing. Excellent service from Elise and delicious, well priced food. Definitely would love to come back. This is a new restaurant in a new building and I hope to see them succeed. read more

Me and some friends decided to check out Redwater Kitchen during one of Spearfish's Friday night summer festivals. As expected, the place was packed and were told it'd be about a 30min wait. We noticed they had outdoor seating with open tables and asked the host if I'd be ok to wait there while a table opened up. He said it was fine and he seated us outside. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication or if outdoor seating is first come, first serve but we ended up skipping the line and being served within 5 minutes of walking in! It was a nice surprise and much more comfortable given the fact that it was very loud inside. The service was prompt and we received our drinks within a few minutes. The menu options were plentiful and had an array of choices. Prices were very reasonable. For appetizers we tried the lobster & crap dip and the buffalo cauliflower bites. Both had amazing flavors! We decided to go for the pork tenderloin, brick chicken, and ribeye. Every single thing was cooked perfectly. All the meats were tender and juicy and the accompanying veggies were fresh. Portion size was spot on. I cannot express how great this place is. I didn't have much expectations going into but now I tell all my friends of the awesome experience I've had. We stopped in during our travels for lunch. We started with drinks which were very good however the overwhelming fish smell was hard to ignore. My friend ordered a burger that was pretty much raw but when she asked the waitress to microwave it, she returned with brand new burger. I ordered the wedge salad and that was good. The atmosphere was really odd, it was almost like an upscale cafeteria. The vibe was strained, definitely would've helped to have music on. I won't be back. read more

Our first visit to Spearfish and was looking for something other than burgers. This place was great! We had the bruschetta which was so good! Not a traditional bruschetta, it had goat cheese, pesto, salami, and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious! Had the Mac and cheese and husband had the pork chop. Very good! We thought price was reasonable, much cheaper than Virginia. Really glad we gave this restaurant a try for our one night in town. read more

Went here for a late lunch today. We arrived about 3:00pm, seated promptly and noticed 3 or 4 tables that were occupied. Ordered ice tea and "The Walleye" for lunch. Tea was brought out and that was one of the only times we saw the waitress. The Walleye with vegetable skewers came out in a timely manner, it wasn't busy and there was plenty of waitstaff. The walleye was cooked...barely, it wasn't dried out for sure, it didn't hit the fire for long. Something that resembled a cream sauce was poured over it. It failed. (Think of milk poured over fish) I finally used my lemon from my tea glass to squeeze over the fish to give it some flavor. We ate it, but absolutely nothing to write home about. The menu said it was "new"....you need to remove it off of the menu if that's what you're serving. Poor quality especially for the price. The vegetable skewers were mostly bell peppers and onions. Never saw the waitress again until it was time for the bill. I was out of tea for about 20 minutes and never got a refill. I guess that's the reason we got water right off? I did say something to the waitress about the lack of service and she said she "asked someone else to watch our table because she was busy". Unfortunately, when my husband watched her at the bar standing there talking to a guy, the "busy" was just BS. She did take the tea off our bill, so that was something. I give grace to waitstaff when the place is so busy and they are just trying to keep their head above water, but today at 3pm in the afternoon sure wasn't busy. So, with the poor quality of food and the poor service....could not recommend. Keep driving. read more

We were seated without utensils. Were served appetizers without utensils on plates that desperately need to be replaced. Had to go find hostess to get utensils. My daughter got the wrong meal. My husbands burger came raw so he couldn't eat half of it. The outside eating area was covered in flies because it looked like no one had cleaned out there in a long time. Chicken and waffles is really dry, ask for extra maple syrup. Never got asked if we wanted more drinks. We were letting things go because everyone had rated this so well but it was a horrible experience. Our waiter was nice but not very attentive or intuitive. He asked us twice which card to charge for who and still charged the wrong amounts to the wrong cards. read more

Good, clean atmosphere with friendly service. The food is fresh, modern, and served beautifully. Note: I am a huge fan of real, fabric napkins! The only improvement needed is the ordering. The wait staff is expected to remember everything. With our orders (allergies and sensitivities) it's nearly impossible to get it right without writing our orders down. I was very pleasantly surprised. Coming from the Bay area, you get a little spoiled, so I was really happy that the salmon that I ordered was cooked perfectly, and was served with a lentil curry that paired really well with the salmon. We also had brussel sprouts, but they were prepared in a unique sauce. The gimlet that we ordered was also made perfectly. The service was also quick and very pleasant. We went to Redwater Kitchen Sunday about 5:45pm. We were seated right away. We ordered the Ruben sandwich and the Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries. We got the Ruben on sourdough bread since they were out of rye. There was not a lot of meat in the Ruben so we couldn't really taste the sauerkraut or the meat. It was a little greasy. The flavor was good. The Cuban was pretty greasy also but had very good flavor. The service was very good. read more

Let me begin by prefacing this with the fact that Redwater Kitchen is one of my favorite places to eat in the Black Hills. My family and I have eaten here over two dozen times since they've opened, and we'll continue to patronize the establishment. We've watched them refine their menu over the years and it is quite possibly the best breakfast/dinner option you'll find in the Northern Hills, along with a solid selection of local beers and craft cocktails. That said, the service (or lack thereof) has fallen off over the past few months. Most recently, our family sat at our table for a solid fifteen minutes as nearly every server in the house passed us over. No waters. No silverware. Nothing. Ultimately, we decided to leave. I came up in the industry and know running a restaurant is challenging. However, there's not really an excuse for where their service currently sits. Hope this changes in the near future because giving a locally-owned, great place a three star review pains me. read more

Interesting restaurant that is just trying too hard to be unique. First, don't make your own ketchup, let Heinz do what they do. Second, pickles were also made in house and NOT good. Zucchini noodles in the chicken p? No, please just make it an option. Couple tips, turn on some music and turn down the lights. It was Friday night and felt like a diner inside. Went today as a group of 8. First, the host told us it would be 20 minutes which we were all fine with and headed to the bar to grab drinks while we waited. The bartender was exceptionally rude and could take only 1 to 2 drink orders at a time. She charged half of our group for their drinks and didn't charge the rest of us? We also asked for nonalcoholic beer options, which we were sharply told they do not. Although, after sitting we found that the menu offers nonalcoholic IPA. The host sat us, but wanted our group at two 4 tops. We asked to put the two tables together, but she stood there with no response. Considering we came as to eat as a group, we moved the tables as she continued to stand there without helping. The saving grace was our server and food. Minda was quick and sweet and attentive. Honestly, she is the only reason we stayed at the restaurant after the rudeness and incompetence we experienced. We plan to never come back. read more

Not impressed this time. We were here last fall and it became my favorite place with HUGE servings, so tasty and great gluten free options. This time EVERYTHING was WAY over cooked and about half the food we got last time. The shrimp was completely tasteless and WAY over cooked.
