Bison tenderloin

You guys! This place is worth the drive. Make reservations and enjoy an amazing dinner! I was super impressed by the scallops and everything was delish!! Ask for Toby ... he gives great recommendations.

Looks ok from the top.

After reading the reviews we decided to have dinner tonight at Snitches inside of Tin Lizzies. It's safe to say whoever the chefs were that actually earned the 5 star reviews are long gone and the kitchen is not any where up to their level. We asked what their medium rare steaks looked liked (warm red, lots of pink, Halie didn't know) and we decided to order 2 medium rare ribeyes. They can always cook it a bit more. It was all downhill from here. So, here's what we got. My steak was crunchy on the outside. Seriously. It crunched on the first bite. It was so over done and chewy I had to send it back. My husband's steak looked pretty good however as he got into it it became super rare. Ok, raw where the while line around the meat is so stringy you can't cut it with the steak knife. Unbelievable. My steak was sent back as was husband's when he got to the raw parts. My second steak comes out and again, it's a little crunchy on the outside and I kid you not it is ice cold in the center on the 2nd bite. My husband looks at me and says how is that even possible? I cut a bite and give it to him and sure as shoot ice cold when your tongue touches the center of the piece of meat. How do you even do that? At this point I don't even want a 3rd steak, just take that off the bill. I've have a 1/2 a salad, some bread, and mashed potatoes. Now they send out the "manager" Alexandria, who is actually the cook in back, who then proceeds to actually argue that the steaks were cooked property and the same and I'm wrong. R E A L L Y??? Instead of getting that meal comp'd we get two 25% off coupons. Ah, we won't need those we won't be back. Halie (waitress) explains that's in place of taking my meal off our ticket. Well, I do math for a living and I can already see where this is going. I step away from the table and the other diners so they don't overhear our conversation and ask to speak with "the manager" again. She is just as defensive swearing those steaks were cooked perfect. I pointed out then why was my husband's rare and mine so over cooked? They were the same she says. She took a picture and sent them to the actually manager who supposedly agreed with her. Then she tells me she only eats her meat well done and my steak was too rare for her to eat. Ah ha! You know that point when you know you're not getting anywhere fast? Well, we were there so I ask her "is this the hill you want to die on? Because if that's the case I'll give you the opportunity to cook that steak correctly a 3rd time to go and I'd be more than happy to pay full price for my meal." After waiting a longer period of time for the 3rd steak, which I took as a good sign, the gentleman behind the bar comes out to discuss this conundrum. I explained to him that I'm paying $15 for mashed potatoes according to this bill and if that's going to be the case I'll take the entire meal a 3rd time to see if she can figure out how to cook it correctly. In the end they removed my dinner from the bill completely, which by the way was $15 less than the "deal" she was giving me. I did get the 3rd steak with mashed potatoes by a much more pleasant Alexandria. Will I eat that 3rd steak, hell no. How does it look see for yourself. How can the middle of the steak on one side never touch the heat? Honestly it has a huge light brown streak. How do you do that? Go have a fabulous meal at The RedWater Kitchen in Spearfish or Jacobs Brewhouse in Deadwood run the heck away from this place.

Having a party? This is a small private dining room. I wanted to run home and put on my 20's little black dress and hat combo!

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! 6+ stars! From the time we arrived (a few minutes late) to Tin Lizzie's, we had an awesome experience. We ordered the $42/person all you can eat and that was the most amazing choice EVER, especially because we like our steaks medium rare. I think the last time we had anything so tasty was at a restaurant that doesn't exist anymore (where if you needed a serrated steak knife, something was wrong). What did we like best? The filet!!! (All the filets!) STARTERS: We had the Filet Mignon whiskey tips appetizer ... a few times, because it was AWESOME!!! We also had the grilled shrimp cocktail and the antipasto skewer appetizers. MAIN: We had a few of the Petit Filet in a cherry demi glaze, which was delicious with a little cherry. CUTE! We had a few of the Petit Bison Filet with a heart of palm and arugula salad that was the best bison we've had ... ever. We also had the sesame chicken. SIDES: The ginger wasabi mashed potatoes had just a hint of ginger and wasabi, which was pretty amazing. We also had the tomato pesto pasta and the grilled asparagus. DESSERT: We had it all!!! We had a tiramisu and banana gelato (like a bananas foster gelato). Thank you to our amazing waitress Alexandria (who likes Pokemon)! We chose the restaurant partially because of the OpenTable reservations and partially because there were so many 5-star reviews! Despite being busy when we arrived, she took care of us with a wonderful smile and some great recommendations! It was our first time in Deadwood and at the end of the night, she gave us a quick tour of the beautiful private dining room and let us say hi to the chefs. She also told us to take our paid check to the casino for $10 each which ... err ... we promptly lost, but WHEE! Free fun money! For Pokemon Go, there definitely was a Pokestop, but I think there was a gym also ... eep! A testament to what a great time we had that I didn't make a note of that.

Wow. What a terrific find in Deadwood. The food was terrific. We tried the all you can eat menu and were delighted with the flavors. We will definitely be back. My favorite, hands down, was the salmon followed by the sirloin. They were out of the scampi so I can't rate that. They say the all you can eat menu was small portions but I they were larger than I expected. We will be back! Try it. I think you will love it too.

Appetizers - Charcuterie Board and Hummus with Olive Salsa
Vicki D.

After a late lunch and snacks late afternoon, we visited with the plan of checking out the new menu and trying the Wedge Salad ($6) and a couple appetizers. We were not disappointed! We each had a Wedge. The iceberg lettuce was crisp and fresh complimented with blue cheese crumbles, sweet tomatoes, ranch dressing and prosciutto. Our request for some additional dressing was quickly fulfilled. We went with the Charcuterie Board ($15) and Hummus ($10). The Board was an amazing spread of deliciousness. It only had two meat choices but the ample cheese selections in addition to a wonderful array of gourmet crackers, fresh fruit and nuts made up for it completely. The dipping oil with fresh roasted garlic was a notable finishing touch. If you've ever ordered Hummus to find there was no where near enough Hummus for the pita they provide, no worries! It is not the case here. There is the perfect amount of hummus and the Olive Salsa offers delectable flavors to balance the hummus. A delightful surprise were the Meringue Mints with a hint of cinnamon they deliver with the check which is tucked away in a lovely little wooden box--memorable touches. We will return and would not hesitate to order the same items again.

Mustang Sally's - Cheeseburger deluxe

Mustang Sally's

Fun place for a burger and beer…read more Food in Deadwood is not for gourmands, so save yourself the time and money and go to Mustang Sally's for a straightforward meal. They even have a full bar! This is a sports bar, and they have the cool option to have a half portion of an appetizer instead of fries for a $3 upcharge. My husband was delighted to be able to have fried mushrooms as his side. The kids and husband had milkshakes, and they were made quickly, and everyone loved them. They have a bunch of local beers. I enjoyed my Rapid City made beer and enjoyed a sip of my husband's Spearfish beer. I had a burger, which was perfect. The fries were good. I also had some of my daughter's hot wings. They were meaty and spicy. I loved them, although I wish they had come with celery sticks. Not a big deal, though. The restaurant is decorated with old slot machines, which were fun for the kids to look at while we waited for our food.

Was super excited to come back and try something else! Night 2 - sat at the bar rail, was ignored by every server, until one said they'd be with us shortly. I watched them scoop ice straight from the ice well with the cup (gross), then proceed to wipe and eye booger and flick it INTO THE ICE WELL?? WTF?? At that point, I'm pissed from waiting and beyond grossed out. Everything else in town seemed packed so we made our way down to Patty O'neals at Tin Lizzie and it was delicious and CLEAN!

This is a neat looking place to visit, but the food is pretty mediocre…read more The restaurant is upstairs from Saloon No 10. Mind you, it's not the same location where Wild Bill Hickock was killed (that's across the street at the Old Saloon No 10). We arrived without reservations (they are on Open Table). We were informed that only one waitress was working the whole restaurant but that there were plenty of tables. Thankfully, there were only 4 other tables with customers, so we took our chances. They have a kids menu and quite the list of mocktails. The kids were in heaven and would have happily returned every day for dinner. I had the bison tortelloni. It was a bison steak with cheese tortelloni. It was fine but not remarkable. My husband had the steak frites. His steak was a little fibrous, not a great cut, and certainly not similar to steak frites that I've had in France! I had the recommended red wine, and it was fine. My husband had a local IPA, and he really enjoyed it. Our waitress was very nice and managed the restaurant well for being the only one there. The kids loved their mocktails and liked being able to walk around. Mind you, a lot of pictures are of the historic brothel prostitutes, but they were covered up enough, and thankfully, no one asked me any difficult questions!

Horseshoe Restaurant - Indian Taco

As someone who has spent over 30 years in Food & Beverage--ranging from FOH and BOH to management…read moreand operations--I rarely write reviews this critical. However, after visiting this location every two years for the last eight years, I have officially reached "Strike Three." Before addressing the failures, I must commend Mitch, the bartender/cocktail server. He was absolutely amazing, providing the quickest service of the night and doing everything in his power to accommodate the mounting issues. The staff, in general, were apologetic, but they clearly lack the operational support needed to succeed. Despite the hotel being "dead" for a Saturday night, the food service was a catastrophe: They were out of almost every standard side, including baked potatoes and vegetables. I ordered the King Prime Rib. It arrived gray, cold to the touch, and completely flavorless. It came with a side salad and I was told they were out of side salads, only to later discover they simply didn't want to chop the heads of lettuce. When a salad finally arrived, the lettuce hadn't been washed and tasted like dirt. My salad was replaced with baked beans without my consent, further complicating a simple order. Moving dining to just eight tables in a gaming room was a significant tactical error that killed the atmosphere and flow. I was blown away to see table caddies and cutting utensils stored directly on the floor under the cash register on the gaming floor. This is a fundamental health code failure. The Room The room was "fine" but unremarkable. While it smelled clean, the decor is dated (as expected for an older property). However, the chair in our room was heavily stained, which dampened the "clean" impression. I only come home every few years, and I keep hoping this place will improve. Instead, it has consistently declined. To management: You have good people like Mitch, but your operations, kitchen standards, and basic sanitary protocols are failing them--and your guests.

We were looking forward to eating a good Indian Taco while driving the Spearfish Canyon Loop, but…read moreour first choice was closed when we got there. Frantically searching for another place, we found that Horseshoe Restaurant, located inside the First Gold Gaming Resort, had made-to-order Indian Tacos. We decided to stop in for dinner. Hot Cheese Bites ($5.50) - I wasn't sure what these were when I ordered them, but hey, fried cheese is never bad. It turns out that these are pretty similar to fried cheese curds, with a very soft interior with barely any chew. Commercial frozen curds perhaps? Still, they are fried perfectly with a light crisp on the exterior and served piping hot. According to the menu, the cheese bites are supposed to come with hot honey but the server was confused and asked what dressing we wanted, of which we selected ranch. (4/5) Indian Taco ($14.95) - The base frybread is a five inch diameter puck that's quite thick. It doesn't have the traditional frybread texture - instead of being fluffy and airy like a donut, it's quite dense, reminding me of the texture of a soft pretzel. The frybread has distinctive docking holes on the bottom, which prevents rising, hence the denseness. I wonder why they do that? It does taste freshly fried and is topped with seasoned beef, shredded iceberg lettuce, cheese, olives, and pico. The seasoned beef is ground into small particles and reminded me of a Taco Bell-esque extruded meat. It's quite salty but seasoned well. (2.5/5) Everything seemed to be made fresh to order - it took around 15 minutes to receive our food even though the restaurant wasn't that full. Also, unlike reviews on other platforms, we had no issues with the service whatsoever. Bathrooms: Larger ones. You can also go in the casino for more bathrooms.
