Breakfast sandwiches are to die for. The employees are spot on. How did I ever live without them?

I love their store brand products, which are of much better quality than most other generic products. Plus, their deli and fresh fried fish were unmatched in my opinion. I was crushed to have to shop elsewhere on the South Shore. And then, a small miracle happened-- Big Y expanded to the South Shore. I was finally able to make a trip over to Kingston within the past few weeks and have decided-- without a doubt-- that I am no longer going to be shopping at my local Shaw's, and will drive the extra distance to shop here. And here's why: 1) I love their produce section. Lots of healthy, fresh, fine quality produce. Displays are neat, clean, well-stocked. Very good representation, lots of variety. 2) their deli hot and cold bar. I love that I can pick up a meal to-go that actually tastes and looks delicious. They have fresh-made sushi (you can watch the chef make it), a hot bar, a wing bar (with other fried appetizer foods), and a salad bar. 3) as I said above, I love the Big Y brand "generic" foods. Their salsa is far better than most branded jarred salsa I've had! You can save money by buying store brand, but you don't sacrifice quality here at Big Y. 4) helpful staff: everyone I've interacted with from produce to seafood to butcher counter are friendly, helpful and most important: knowledgeable. Most grocery stores can't say the same. Their employees just don't care-- these do. 5) fast checkout. Despite long lines the day before Thanksgiving, I didn't wait long to check out. I think that's an excellent representation of their day-to-day. As I said, I was a big fan before, but this Big Y is actually even better than the store I frequented in Western Mass. Check it out for yourself, if you haven't yet. I just can't think of a better grocery store.

My favorite GO TO Grocery Store Hands down! I have been a loyal Stop & Shop Pembroke customer for…read moreover 35 years - and, yes, I did start shopping when I was 10! Why, you ask? 1. Some of the same great people are still working here after all these years and are as warm and welcoming as ever 2. I know where everything is - even though things have changed for the best over the years 3. They continue to innovate - being the first store near us to offer grocery scanning devices, self check out, digital coupons, a robot that ensures the aisles and floors are clean and safe -- and an app; 4. This store is SUPER - meaning they have just about everything - including a gas station and pharmacy on premises. 5. Best Produce (there are always specialists on the floor pulling imperfect specimens) 6. Incredible values on the essentials through "bulk buys," "manager discounts," "every day values," digital coupons, weekly values, fuel points, A+ School Rewards, and insider, customized discounts pushed directly to me. 7. I save about 25% to 30% each week (which is $25 on every $100 or $100+ on $400 spent. Yes, I do spend $400 every once in a while. I have a growing family and lots of extended family and friends who visit often.) Additionally, this store is extremely family friendly. My children have "grown up" shopping with me and learning valuable lessons along the way: Making healthy choices, budgeting (through the self scanning device), helping mom (self check out, running to grab something mom forgot). I've also had employees help me out to my car when my children were small and I had too few hands and too many groceries. I love this store so much! Thank you.

Special: "CHEAP CHICKEN ALL WEEK!" 8-Piece Dark Meat Fried Chicken! Original or Spicy, Legs, Thighs and Drumsticks, 5.77/each. Sounds great until you get to the store and guess what: nary a package available. When I asked the worker he said it'll be a hour at least before they are ready. He was referring to the Rottisserie chickens. "I'll try to get to the fried chicken after that." To be honest he didn't seem particularly concerned. But he did give it a good shrug so... I will always try and support our local businesses but I do expect a certain amount of reciprocity for my money. Jeff C.

Mom would pick up stuff for our first few days and we were off... As an adult I have moved to the Cape, and go up to Gerard's several times a year, mostly for the fresh turkeys. Usually it is just a fresh one to be prepared at home, a must for Thanksgiving. Last week we got one to do on the grill, may I say better than ever? It was off the charts. The prepared food, including the turkeys, are consistently wonderful, although I do tend to only buy turkey related products. We have not tried any of the Italian offerings. If you are in the area, or traveling to the Cape on route 3, take the time to swing off and give it a try. I think you will find it worth you time.

The few items that were there did not look good. I was going to buy one of their "used to be awesome" turkey sandwiches and took one look at it and put it back. I walked out with nothing even though I had plans to buy a lot of things because it used to be so good . You're better off at the McDonald's down the street, sadly. I really hate to leave them a bad review; I grew up getting our turkeys for Thanksgiving from them every year (for 20 years). I was just so shocked at the drop in quality the last time I was there I feel like I should warn people. Ambience is awful too. It's very dark in there and food selection is limited. Like I said it used to be good now it's just gone downhill. Quite a shame.
