I don't typically write these reviews, but I definitely want to jump on here and say Dale Rimmer…read morewas beyond amazing. I got his name and number from my vet actually so I had to cancel the appointment because water was pouring out of my ceiling which I thought was a roofing issue from my porch. It turned out that it was a heating pipe that split. My daughter told me that the floor upstairs was soaked. I ran upstairs I pulled up the carpet and it was scolding to the touch. There was a lot of steam coming off the floor. I ended up calling the fire company going way over the extreme, but by that point I had already called Dale Rimmer. He ended up getting here as fire company was leaving ( which was 20 minutes ) He did explain on the phone that it was probably just steam coming off the floor. He remained with me at the house until I had somebody able to come out and fix the pipe( the fire company turned off my boiler as it was pouring water into my house). I'm also leaving a review for my Fire company. I've never needed them in all my years living here, but they were downright amazing and the same thing with the police downright amazing. I cannot be thankful enough for my community and the fact that Dale was the voice a reason and calmness in my crazy day.!!!

Several siding contractors we called said they only did siding. Dale said he had contractors that he has worked with for years that could do the stone work and build the new porch. Dale was involved during the entire process and the stone mason and carpenter he brought in were great. The porch and stone work turned out better than we expected. We also had a new flagstone walkway installed and our deck refurbished. The new siding, gutters and downspouts completed the makeover of our home's exterior. Dale was personally involved and was quick to answer and questions or concerns we had. All of the people took pride in their work and the results show it.

I needed a temporary repair (tarp put up) and bids for the roof replacement. Kulp very kindly agreed to install the tarp for free while they were here to bid on the roof replacement. That was a great offer so I delayed having a temporary roof repair made for several days until they could make it out to the house to bid. They showed up and were able to bid for the roof replacement but were unable to install the tarp. Roof was too slippery (had rained the day before) and the tech didn't want to install the tarp. They offered to send another tech out (maybe he had better equipment) to do the tarp but it would cost me $750. I paid the $750 because I couldn't wait any longer. Could have paid another vendor $500 for the temporary repair instead of waiting for them to do it for free. Although not their area, Kulp had kindly offered to get me a quote for the inside ceiling repair work (which I needed done ASAP) from another vendor they often work with. Their ceiling vendor did not call me as agreed the next day. I called Kulp's office the following day to pay for the $750 tarp and mentioned the missing quote. A ceiling repair vendor did call me based on their referral but had no time available for the next 3 weeks. Kulp provided 4 different quotes with different roofing quality for the roof replacement and did a good job answering questions I had. I went with another vendor for the big roof replacement project.

I had contacted some roofers for estimates for a complete roof replacement that are listed in Home Advisor; they came they blustered and gave me pricing, some cheap some in the stratosphere. I actually had one do a repair on Christmas Eve when a leak developed. Suffice to say, they didn't fix the leak and they were not invited back. The entire team from Kulp were thorough and professional. Nick was their salesperson and technician. He gave me a Chinese menu of various materials starting from the base GAF roof system up to the gold medal one. He patiently answered every one of my questions, and I am an ex-Architect/ construction manager, so I knew what to ask. At the end, Nick left me the specs for the various materials after describing each one. I cut them loose after making one additional change. Phil, the Owner, actually gave me a upgrade on the ice and water material for free if I would execute the contract soon afterwards. Cindy called to schedule the day for installation and told me how to setup the site for the crew (basically leave the driveway clear). The crew showed up at 7:00 that morning and started their work. Given the rain events we have been having recently, this crew went through three shower events this day and finished their work at 5:00. Long day! Joe was the site manager and kept everything going smoothly during the work. Cleanup of the debris from the site was extremely thorough with the use of a magnet to pickup every nail. Kulp will not be the least expensive, they are middle of the road, but I would rather have the job performed and installed right. This is what Kulp did and I am very satisfied with the job and the team. Thank you Kulp. Just today, Nick surprised us with a Christmas gift of a check for a referral! What a timely surprise. I told Nick that I would definitely recommend them referral or none, because they are quality contractors. Thanks again Phil and Nick.

Having to hire a slate roofer in the Allentown area (rather than relying on our old one in another…read morearea) turned out to be a re-education about the difficulty of finding a reputable and responsive roofer. In all, I made five phone calls to try to line up estimates on having slates replaced. Two never bothered to return the call. One called back 3-4 days later. Another called back 2 days later. (That guy, the Coplay, not Bensalem Romano, said he "doesn't do" estimates on slate replacements.) Just one called back that very day, and boy, did we luck out - J & M Roofing. We already knew the rough going price of slate replacement and J & M was right in the pocket. The boss, Greg, was a charming and down to earth guy and his son (he has two in the business with him) made a point of stopping by swiftly and taking pictures that were emailed to us to show exactly what needed replacing. Greg has been in the business a long time and knows how to ration his time. Quicker jobs like ours get reserved for days of iffy weather and weekends, and indeed, the following weekend he and one son and one helper showed up and got the job done in short order. The job was done just recently so I can't tell you about durability. I can tell you that we were happy with the speed of response, and that all the workers were personable and cleaned up afterwards decently. Throughout the process, Greg was a good and consistent communicator too. If you're looking for an experienced roofer - and one who knows slate - definitely include J & M Roofing in your considerations.

He didn't overcomplicate the project or load me up with roofing jargon like other contractors did. Their quote came in customized to our project and was built to have no large "extra material " surprises when the project closed. They were always communicative and friendly about the project. When they encountered a situation that was abnormal, they walked me through the issue and offered resolutions that would've cost them money. They seem to be stand-up craftsmen who want to do a good job at all costs and don't treat their customers like just another number. If you are going to invite anyone to do work on their home especially on your roof, they are the type to get.
