I needed to fly down to LAX from here in Redding and this little airport works perfect. No hassles like a big airport (like LAX). Round trip on United, easy way to LA and go for the non-stop. Normally I'd make the drive to LA cause I usually have to bring a ton of equipment and presentation materials, but this time I just have a short meeting and dinner to attend, so this is way faster then driving. I had a friend drop me off here at the airport, cause I don't wanna leave a car here over night ... you never know. I love flying out of RDD (Redding) cause it's so easy, no crowds and close by. The fares aren't super cheap, but the company is paying so it's all good! read more

Nice little airport. One gate. They have a restaurant but its closed on Mondays. Other then the restaurant they have vending machines and some cafe style goodies at the gate which is only available about 30 minutes before your flight. The staff were helpful and friendly - something you don't get at too many other airports. read more

The redding airport is quite small for an airport but nonetheless it will do for me. I cant believe that the rental agencies here don't have someone 24/7 i had to come back the following day to pick up my rental and it was horrible, other than that i had a pleasant experience. read more

This is the smallest airport I have ever been to and it is great! The people who work here are local people and some are my neighbors. They are down to earth and kind. Very minimal everything when it comes to places to eat or get something to drink, there is one coffee bar in the departure gate area. They also have a restroom and a bottle refill station in that area. Security is very quick and easy. They have three rental car places to choose from, Avis, Budget and Hertz rental car. Baggage claim was a snap and I only waited four minutes to get my bag. read more

Been flying in/out of this airport for 40 plus years. Changed some over that time but still easy in and out, friendly staff. One issue! from the plane to the terminal is about 30 yards or so. No cover for rainy days, which can be quite a lot in Redding. Arriving is not as bad as departing, when getting into the plane can leave you standing in the rain. read more

I've only flown into or out of RDD a couple of times, but it's been over 20 years. I've never had a flight canceled or delayed, and I appreciate how much easier it makes it for friends and loved ones to get me instead of having to drive to Sacramento. The flight times aren't always the most convenient, but it's never posed a huge problem. Flying into Sac is generally preferred do to the cheaper cost, but as long as you know that it's a small municipal airport with all the things that entails (limited service, not tons of shops/restaurants), you should be fine. read more

I've flown in and out of this airport about 30 times in the last 4 years and have to say that it's really a pleasant and easy experience. There's never a line for security and the staff here are incredibly friendly. Protip: wait until just prior to boarding to head into the gate area as once you walk in there isn't much to do. Theres a cafe/coffee shop inside the gate which is pretty good as well. read more

Little airport, easy check in and there is a small coffee shop inside terminal. Coffee shop has pastries and small breakfast treats. The young batista made me a great mocha coffee. Had an international friend leaving out of Redding airport. Unfortunately we didn't know she needed to check in 2 hours before, completely our fault. But, the lady who help decided to treat my friend terriblely, with rude and racist remark. Luckily another lady intervened and helped her fix the flight. Redding Municiapl is great but the flight change in San Francisco makes driving 10 hours attractive. United flight from Redding then to San Fran then San Diego was a hike. Arrived San Francisco from Redding then had to walk half a mile to gate for San Diego Flight. San Fran has removed the escalater so adds to a long walk, takes up much of your hour and a half layover. What is this, the redding version of the Bermuda Triangle?! My last flight in wasn't able to land soon had to have someone pick me up in Medford, Oregon where they just dropped us off without a single care available, food vouchers for a closed tiny ass airport and a slap on the ass. Redding airport staff have no concept of customer service and the airport is lackluster at best, United is the worst carrier, and you can count on having every flight with United, rescheduled to inconvenience your travel plans, and an extra $35 fee tacked on for your checked bag, even if already paid (I don't understand how they get away with this). The airport prepaid parking that requires you to park, pay at a kiosk at the terminal, and hike back to your car to leave the receipt on the dash is ARCHAIC. How are you supposed to do this while hauling your luggage around in 110 degree heat because the counter refuses to check it in, until an hour before the flight???!!! Disregard TSA recommendations to arrive early at this airport. There is no service. The GREAT NEWS is that AVELO AIRLINES has joined the Redding market and this is a discount carrier with a GENUINE CONCERN FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION! I was very impressed flying their new, comfortable Boeing 737-800 jet to Burbank last week, and only wish I could've flown back with them, but had to take United out of LAX (booo!! and of course my original midday flight was rescheduled to evening departure, requiring an overnight hotel bill). Honestly, this airport shocked me and I've been to a lot of airports (airline employee). It looks like a business office from the front. Their parking system is a lot like SBP. You pre-pay and put the receipt on your dash or risk ticketing. The building looked deserted when I arrived late morning. I learned that the security checkpoint, counters and gates only open when there's a flight coming in and then departing which is NOT like SBP. When flights aren't operating you also can't rent a car. Starting at 11 you can have lunch at the highly rated Chinese restaurant on the top level with a panoramic view of the (usually) empty airfield. They have a couple of vending machines otherwise, though one of the two was inop during my visit. The quaint touch was the random coffee maker on a side table next to said vending machines that sells the pods to make coffee (that's the one was inop) so I spent my day in RDD caffeine free. S'okay but not a particularly great place to hang out for a flight. read more

United Airlines small commuter plan was late to take off and late to get us out of the plane.. for starters RDD employees probably haven't had the experience of more than 2 people in the airport so they get all hectic and don't know how to act with so many people around. When departing I saw the gate closed so I asked the Female TSA agent when will they open it? Simple question right? I've never experience the process of a small airport so I wanted to know. Her response : "there are only three of us here and when we complete this we will open it" (keep in mind they were just chit chatting and no luggage for them to scan so I guess their conversation must have been so amazing that they couldn't open the departure gate for us. My first visit to Rdg airport in years. RDG has become a great local airport. My daughter had a United flight to LAX. Then on to Rio via Panama on COPA Airlines. That meant dragging luggage at LAX between United at one terminal and COPA Airlines at the Bradley terminal. The Redding United agent spent a lot of time getting her check-in luggage over to COPA at LAX and forwarded to Rio Brazil. What a huge gesture of kindness and Customer Support. Made the LAX flight change much much easier. Nice job!! Yes, her checked baggage was at the COPA baggage carousel on arrival. Sweet. read more

Redding airport is the greatest small town airport in America. The customer service is surpassed by none and what it lacks in amenities it makes up for in hometown hospitality. Seen many negative reviews from past years but the new station leadership and team is phenomenal. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would without hesitation. 1 technician for 2 places (the jet center next door) takes two and a half HOURS to get here to tell you that you have to wait for another plane to replace it. Departure time 5:30 AM . I arrived at the terminal at 5:10 bording pass in hand had cheked in online but was not allowed to board the plane. SMF, SFO, LAX no problem if your running up to the terminal 20 minutes before departure but I guess Redding has a strict policy. The worst part was the guy was an not symphetic about it. Someone is stuck in your airport and the plane is just sitting there and you don't care, jerk. No one here seems to like their job. Awwwwww this airport is a sweet little thaaannnggg!!! I'm going from memory here, and i remember it was a hot day, the airport was beige in color and i saw an American stereotypes (hillbillies) ha ha!! It had a quiet atmosphere. This is a small no-frills airport. There are no restaurants or forms of entertainment. Its only redeeming quality is that it did seem clean. If you have to spend any length of time here, I'd definately make sure I have a good book, a smart phone, or some kind of tablet computer/ Ipad with internet capability to keep yourself entertained. In many ways this is unfair to staff at RDD. The local folks and TSA staff are efficient and friendly and for a dinky airport it is clean and nice. The problem? Their city contracted with United Airlines. This is quite possibly the worst of the large carriers. United makes it painfully clear you are one insignificant passenger and your one fare is a drop in their trillion dollar bucket. Although their flights are frequently late leaving RDD they do not tell you this when booking nor do they list them as delayed. We were 3 hours delayed (most passengers facing missed connections) and yet their system still said On Time. If they were honest and said their 9:25 am flight is delayed greater than 50% of they time I would have made different travel plans. United should be forced to be transparent about delays and accommodate travelers when delays happen. As I have felt before, Shame on United and wise up Redding City Council. read more

Wow I don't know where to start with this one. This airport will halt flights for almost any reason. We had to return 3 separate days to get our flight to D.C. Missed several days of our vacation, out 80 bucks in cab fare etc. Save yourself the grief 100 dollars for one way car rental to Sacramento you save that in airfare and ulcers. read more

Arrived Thursday late. No luggage. I was supposed arrive at 1 15 pm instead of 3 pm. My friend waited too long. No luggage until after midnight! Had to sleep naked! Today checked in and had one pound over weight. I have been on premier silver level for a long time and didn't care about my troubles I had. I had to use a small briefcase due to small plane. They didn't care again There is only airline united. That s it. Very small airport and not great for me as a hard working professional career when I provide training a for communities in redding. Both ways arrival and departure they treat me horrible. Sad. read more

The airport is fine. United Airlines on the other hand is unreliable. I have lived in Redding 23 years and have frequently flown out of RDD. Most recently a Sunday flight was cancelled so I rebooked for Saturday. The connection was tight at 45 minutes. The Saturday SAN-SFO flight was delayed greater than 3 hours and the next day flight was already cancelled. I ended up driving from San Diego to Redding (660 miles). The time before I missed the connection and slept at SFO. A couple of Xmas ago I drove to SFO to pick up kids because their connection was missed or the flight was cancelled. In the time it takes to fly to SFO (1 hour flight + 1 hour layover) you can drive to SMF (Sacramento) and fly Southwest. Cheaper and way more reliable. read more

Redding airport S.U.C.K.S. I have been through this airport more than once. I have never flown out when there was not a delay or cancellation of the flight. This includes the summer months. My experience the last time I was here went this way: Arrived at the Redding Airport in the early morning to catch connecting flight in SFO to go back home to LAX. I dropped off the rental vehicle by depositing the keys in the night drop. Walked into the terminal and went to security. I was stopped by the TSA agents because the typically do not screen travelers until the flight is called. OK? Waited in the terminal for the call. It finally arrived and I went through security. 45 minutes later the flight was delayed. The policy of this airport is to NOT have people wait in the security holding area when a flight is delayed. Everyone was asked to clear the area. The flight was called back on 20 minutes later and we went through security again. Each time I went through security I had to be 'patted down' because I wore a Cartier bracelet that needed a screw driver to disassemble in order to remove. (I wanted one fashion statement during my travels and you cannot bring a small screwdriver on board a plane.) The flight was delayed AGAIN. The security area was cleared. The flight was on 20 minutes later. TSA pat down search again in holding area one more time. THIS PROCESS HAPPENED 6 TIMES. The flight was eventually cancelled. The people at the airline ticket counter (United--they would give a damn about what happened to you) told people they could rent a car and drive to Chico and see if they could get a flight out of there. A group of 6 people then rented the car I had dropped off and left for Chico. Others just gave up. I had no other choice but to stay and pray a flight would go out that day. One plane did manage to leave that day. I was selected after a long debate between the pilots and the gate agent. The only reason I got on the plane was they said 'I have a full fare customer here' they said they would take me but left the rest of the waiting group behind because they did not have time to wait. While waiting for 5 hours for a plane to leave I did go out front to smoke in between being searched by TSA. The police were quite charming when they drove by the third time on airport property. They stopped and asked me why I was loitering in front of the airport. I told them the situation and they seemed rather put out (this is a mild understatement) I chose to wait in front of the terminal. If you are in the Redding Airport early make sure you bring plenty of reading material, cigarettes, phone, and snacks. The nearest store, coffee house, restaurant (other than the one that opens up late in the morning) are miles away. The people who work inside the airport TSA, Security, airline people are locals who are not that sophisticated. Their mannerisms, vocal nuances, body language, facial expressions give one the impression they are prison guards and you are the prisoner in a for-profit prison system. If you get out of line, even for a small infraction, you are bullied and humiliated. When I did finally get on my flight they were placing chicken cages with live chickens in the cargo hold (you could hear them clucking and crowing the whole flight). The lady I sat next to was holding her carry-on luggage (a pillow case stuffed with her most precious possessions.) If you can don't ever fly out of this airport it's in a small hick town with mean people who work there. read more

This airport seems to have it all: luggage claim next to the place where you get off the plane, great restaurant on the top floor, fairly small, etc. The main drawback, though, is that its only flight is to San Francisco. It used to have a flight connecting Redding, Arcata, Portland, and Seattle. This helped a lot, especially because I go to college at Humboldt State in Arcata. I would give this a one-star if it weren't for the restaurant. If they bring the Arcata-Portland-Seattle flight back, I'll come back and bump this up to a four-star. read more

Five stars for staff. Everyone was courteous, the check-in process was painless, and it is a quaint little airport. The first time I flew out of this airport we had plane trouble. However, I wanted to try them again. All went great and I will continue to use them when I can! read more
