There's a reason why this place made number four on the Texas Monthly top 50 barbecue restaurants. That list is made every single four years, and this is their first time on the list and premiering. It was such an incredible experience. I got to meet the pit masters, saw them at their craft. We got to try so many different meats: two different sausages, the brisket, the burnt ends, the pork rib. The meats were all amazing, but the standout dishes were the sides, such as the scallop potato mac and cheese, the salad, it was incredible. The breads that are made in-house are insane. The pita bread was so good with the beef tallow dip, honey dip, and also the dinner roll was insane. Some of the best sides I've ever had in my entire life. This is a barbecue experience that's worth the drive. It took us about two hours from Houston to here, and it was well worth the trip. I would definitely do it again. read more

So being from Texas I am a fan of trying BBQ from different locations even if it's out of state. Well fortunately for me this wonderful place is located right here in Texas. So let me start off by saying they open at 11am W-Sat. If you show up after 11 be prepared to stand in line to get into this restaurant. When they sell out they are done!! The restaurant definitely has a small town feel but the food is definitely larger than the location. The staff is very helpful with the different options you can choose from. The slice beef and chopped beef sandwiches are definitely big enough to share if you get full easy or decide you want a side. I ordered the slice beef sandwich and half pound of ribs. The sandwich as I already stated was more than enough but I definitely am not disappointed that I ordered the ribs. The ribs fell off the bone and had a great glaze on them. I also ordered the cheesy potatoes as a side and they are definitely cheesy and delicious at that. You cannot go wrong eating here, well unless you forget to order the banana pudding like I did. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The only downside was that they sold out of brisket and ribs extremely fast. We got in line right at 5:00 PM with only six groups ahead of us and a few to-go orders, but by the time we reached the counter, both brisket and ribs were already gone. They still had chopped beef sandwiches and sausage available, and the employee mentioned they're still adjusting to serving dinner. It sounded like the to-go orders ahead of us (around 1.5 lbs of brisket each) may have contributed to running out so quickly. We were really hoping to try something other than chopped beef, but we'll give them another shot next time we're in town. Hopefully, they'll have a better handle on preparing enough food moving forward. Selling out that fast--less than 30 minutes--was surprising. read more

Stood in line for around 30-40 minutes before ordering. I will say the line itself is short, the service is just a taddddd slow. Having another person or two will surely speed up the process. I ordered the meat sampler, which comes with 1/4 pound of all their meat selections which includes turkey, chopped and sliced brisket, pork rib, and sausage. I also got the banana pudding, rolls, potato salad, and cornbread salad. It was worth the wait. This might be the best barbecue I have ever eaten in my life. The brisket is so soft and melts in your mouth. Pair it with their bbq sauce, and everything else - it's truly perfect. Their meat sampler was a good starter for me, it allowed me to try a little bit of everything. I wish more bbq places had something similar. Today we tried Redbird BBQ and it definitely did not disappoint. We got there about 10:30, were in the door by 11:15, and sitting at the table with our food by 11:35. We got a 1/2 pound of brisket, 1/2 pound of turkey, 2 sausages, the red beans and rice, potato salad, corn bread pudding, rolls, tallow honey butter and banana pudding. Everything was excellent! The brisket was moist and flavorful with a nice bark. The turkey was moist and had a nice smoke flavor that complimented the meat but didn't over power it. The sausage was very good and had a nice spice blend. All the sides were excellent especially the red beans and rice. The house rolls were soft and pillowy and that beef tallow honey butter was a game changer!! The banana pudding for dessert was great! They are cooking true texas hill country BBQ! I have eaten BBQ at some of the best places in Texas, and this is definitely right up there with them. On top of having amazing food the service from the staff was just as good, they have chairs and umbrellas that you can use while waiting in line outside, they had a waitress walking the line taking drink orders and bringing them to you while you wait, they have two big cooling fans to help beat the heat, and everyone was super friendly at the counter where you order your food. If you havent had a chance to try them out then I highly suggest you make your way over to Port Neches Ave and get you some of this delicious BBQ.
