We have bought food from Charlie's n many occasions. The last two visits our orders were not correct. You are told to check your order before leaving but it's difficult to open your styrofoam plate. I was just driving down College Street in the mood for barbecue and saw this quaint little place. Stopped in and had the two meat plate which was homemade sausage link and sliced brisket. The brisket was very tender and lean. The homemade sausage link had a very good flavor and the insides would just fall apart every time you cut the sausage. It wasn't like your standard sausage that retains its shape. It was more like ground up brisket made into a sausage link. Even though it's something I've never experienced at a barbecue joint. For having a brisket sausage link, it was very good. There are no fountain drinks or pictures of tea. All of the drinks are in a refrigerator cabinet in cans or bottles. The staff is very friendly but possibly much room for management to enforce health and safety measures as many workers already seem crowded together behind their counter and not covered in masks, etc. Chicken should have been cooked longer as it was very very pink inside, ribs were too fatty (but risk you pay for to-go ribs), beans were tasty, potato salad was OK, boudain (not pictured) and links were good. We decided we wanted to try a new spot for dinner today and we decided to try Charlie's BBQ & Catering at 3125 College St, Beaumont, TX which was very easy to find. By the time we got there the place closed at 7 but the inside closed at 6 so we had to use the drive thru. There was actually a couple of cars in line ahead of us but the line moved rather quickly once we got to the window a nice lady came to the window and asked us what we like for today I decided to order the two meat plate with links and ribs with potato salad and baked beans my fiance decided to order a Two meat plate with ribs and brisket also with baked beans and potato salad and of course as I was looking at the menu I noticed they were also selling popcorn balls so of course I definitely had to try one of those to see if it was an authentic Steen syrup popcorn ball. Once we placed our order it didn't we didn't have to wait that long. The containers were heavy and The smell coming out if the window was heavenly. She thank us and said please come again. Once we arrived home we opened our containers and we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious. The ribs were so tender they literally slid off the bone with no work involved. They sell links there which is not the same as a sausage. The link was homemade almost with the texture if boudin but it was delicious. The brisket was also good literally melted in you're mouth. The potato salad and baked beans were also delicious, loved the texture and great homemade flavors. Last but not least I had to try the popcorn ball. It's good but definitely different had a cinnamon taste to the syrup which gave it a unique flavor. Old fashioned Popcorn balls made with Steens Syrup is absolutely my favorite and the best. But this one was pretty good. Great decision for dinner. So Yelpers if you're in or passing through Beaumont Texas check out Charlies Barbecue and Catering. You wont be disappointed. read more
