Pork ribs, jalapeño sausage, brisket, and turkey
    Douglas M.

Food was great. Service was great. I especially liked the ribs and the turkey. Both were seasoned perfectly!!!! They just might have the best bbq in Beaumont. The brisket and the sausage were good too, I'm just a rib fanatic. lol

    Don't forget that banana pudding

"I pulled into 1701 hunting brisket, but what I found was a full-blown smoke show with a side of glory." TL;DR: Rolled up at 10:45 AM and parked myself first in line at 1701 Barbecue. By the time the doors opened, there were 20 folks stacked up behind me, hungry and jealous. I walked out with brisket, ribs, sausage, banana pudding for the road, and a half chicken for dinner. The bark was crusted brilliance. The rib was hearty and full of flavor. The sausage had snap, juice, and no nonsense. The place was spotless, the staff was welcoming, and the smoke lingered in all the right places. That bird? Reheated like a champ. Stamp 23 secured. It was Saturday morning, and I had meat on my mind. The road took me to 1701 Barbecue, where the pitmasters don't mess around and neither do the regulars. My internal alarm clock nudged me into action, and by 10:45 AM I was in the lot staring at the closed doors like a kid outside a candy store. A few clouds rolled by, the sun climbed a little higher, and before long a crowd had built up behind me like a tailgate line at kickoff. When the doors finally swung open, I had one mission: Texas Trinity + banana pudding + peace offering poultry. Here's what hit the tray: * Brisket: Rich bark, tender middle, and seasoned with purpose. They don't overdo it. They let the smoke speak. * Pork Rib: Thick, meaty, perfectly cooked. No tug-of-war, no chew-fest, just a clean bite and a flavor that hangs around. * Sausage: Juicy and bold with a casing that snapped clean like a green branch in deer season. * Banana Pudding: I tucked it in the to-go bag for the Side Dish Queen. She wasn't with me this round, so it doubled as both a dessert and a peace treaty. * Half Chicken: I knew we'd need dinner. That bird got packed up and rode home like royalty. The joint itself was clean, cool, and buzzing with good energy. Staff had that Texas hospitality gear running smooth and friendly. Inside was all charm and calm efficiency. Plenty of napkins, plenty of smiles. When I got home that evening, I warmed up the half chicken, expecting some loss of luster. Nope. It was moist, smoky, and full of life. Even the Side Dish Queen nodded her approval. Stamp count: 23 down. 27 to go. 1701 brought the smoke, and I'll be talking about that tray for a while. Dad Joke Sign-off: I asked the chicken how it stayed so good after the reheat. It just winked and said, "I don't wing it."

My husband found out about this place and we had to try. It was nice and spacious. Staff were friendly and informative. The food was great. We got the Mac N cheese, corn bread and brisket rice for our sides. For the meats, we got boudin, jalapeno and cheese sausage, cajun sausage, brisket, and ribs. I liked the pork ribs the most it was flavorful and moist. The brisket we got though was a little dry. But overall I give it a solid 8

Great brisket in the Beaumont Texas area. The selection of bbq meats is good. The street corns salad and coleslaw I got as sides were well prepared and tasty. Service was good. Didn't have a problem finding a parking spot. The dinning room is good size but during lunch time when I came in it was almost completely full. Overall great lunch experience and worth a try.

I need to start this review with saying that I love barbecue. I eat barbecue often and I've probably had some of the best barbecue in Texas. 1701 BBQ is one of the nicer, cleaner BBQ spots that I've been to (on the inside). When we arrived, the line wasn't too long so we were pretty much in and out. We ordered pork ribs, brisket, and sausage. We tried to order the street corn, but they ran out. The brisket, by far, was the best of the three meats that we ordered. The brisket was very moist and we ordered the lean cut so it was moist and delicious. If I were to come back here, I'd most likely only get the brisket and I'd try some sides. The sausage was decent--it wasn't bad, but it was great either. The sausage was just okay. The ribs had good flavor, but weren't tender at all. Ribs are probably my favorite thing to order from barbecue spots and I didn't care for the ribs at all. Remember, I mentioned that I love barbecue so I eat barbecue all of the time. The pickles and barbecue sauce both seemed/tasted like they were made in-house. I would pass on both of them. The prices seemed a little pricey to me when we ordered. The prices on the menu are by the 1/2 lb. After eating the food, I knew for sure the place was pricey because the price and taste didn't match. For Beaumont, this place is a really good barbecue spot. For Texas, it's mediocre. Overall, if I could give them 3.5 stars, that would be my rating.

Great barbecue, great service, love that they kept original building details. We had brisket, turkey, jalapeño sausage, pit beans and green beans and they were all delicious. Pit beans are full of brisket, the sausage melts in your mouth and the sleeper hit for me was the pickled vegetable slaw! I could eat a tub of that alone!

Moist cut brisket, beef sausage, pinto beans, and mac-n- cheese.

Nice, friendly, and passionate staff first off. Cool, rustic barbeque vibe also. The only complaint was the beans were undercooked and hard in the center, otherwise the flavor was pretty good. The mac-n-cheese was incredible! It may be a little spicy for some (if you don't want a little heat). I believe it has diced jalapeño pepper in it. I had beef sausage too, and it was very good! But, the sliced brisket (moist cut) was out of this world! Absolutely phenomenal! Fork tender and seasoned well, just perfect. So moist and tender! Not a big fan of the barbeque sauce, but it was not needed. I highly recommend this place and I'm looking forward to showing it to my adult sons, who I know will love it!

Nice folks and really good BBQ We got there right when they opened, ribs and brisket were cooked to perfection. The corn and coleslaw were awesome as well so don't sleep on the sides. Pro tip - walk off the BBQ at the McFadden-Ward house

Had this place on my list for quite some time...and they did not disappointed. I arrived at 1701 Barbecue just before 11am and wandered around to the smokers and chatted with some of the pit crew. There's a lot to choose from here and the carver was great help...they had Beef Ribs "on sale" so I had to grab one of them, a jalapeño & cheddar link, and I was convinced to try one of their lean brisket sandwiches. I rarely order lean brisket, normally too dry and little flavor but was blown away by this great piece of smoked meat. The sandwich...delicious and I really love their BBQ sauce. The beef rib was solid and the crust was a perfect complement to the moist meat of the rib. I don't see loose grind sausage very often, and this sausage was solid with some extra kick to it. I'll be having a sausage and beef rib breakfast sandwich tomorrow. The service here is extremely friendly and I enjoyed talking to the Manager Travis, plus he gave me a new place to go scope out. It's no wonder this place is a Texas Top 50!!!

I got the Texas Trinity but got shorted on the ribs gave me the end didn't even put them on the scale

A little rude and a lot of racist but hey good BBQ. Don't know if I ever come back. My first time going there too.

1701 BBQ is well deserving of their Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ restaurants in Texas award! I randomly came here for lunch on a Sat because I had some work in Beaumont. Coming from Houston, and eating BBQ all over the country, I was impressed with 1701 BBQ. Don't believe the few negative reviews of this place, give it a shot and see for yourself. Walking in, the place is very nice and clean. They sell some merchandise and bottled bbq sauce. You order from the counter, and generally order the meat by the pound and sides after that. I tried a 1/4 lb of moist brisket, pork ribs, jalapeno cheese sausage, and turkey. For sides, I had their smothered collard greens and pepper jack mac n cheese. Everything was outstanding. My favorite thing though was their pork ribs. They were super tender to where they came off the bone clean, but they didn't fall off on their own. When you bit into it, there was still that good rib meat texture, but soft and juicy. Their rub is very peppery which I love. When you pair it with their tangy bbq sauce, it was perfect. Don't skip out on their sides as well. The collard greens were loaded with bacon and that mac n cheese was the creamiest I've had in awhile. The only thing I wish I tried was their dessert, but I was too full. Overall, 1701 BBQ is probably the best bbq in Beaumont. While it is pricier compared to other bbq joints, they do try to maintain really high quality standards. I'd 10/10 recommend them, enjoy! PS. The only thing I thought was a little odd was that I was never given any onions, pickles, jalapenos, or bread that usually comes standard at other bbq joints. I took this as a small mistake though.

    Ribs, brisket sandwich, and collards.

Excellent BBQ. Make sure you make it early or it may sell out! Every meat I've tried was exceptionally good.

The dude at the front counter welcomed us with a big enthusiastic greet and was really nice! They had a special going on at 1 according to him, so I got a full rack of pork ribs for about 30 dollars I'd say. I was not disappointed to say the least! Split it between two other friends with some sides and I didn't have to pay too much in the end for some great food!

Brisket (lean and moist), pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, smoke boudin, pork ribs.

Best BBQ in Beaumont if not in Texas, it's a little pricey but it's really good. I would recommend the brisket sandwich.

We passed all kinds of fast-bbq chains but found this singular joint via fellow Yelpers. Yay! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich and the ribs and sausage entree. In hindsight I should have (always do) requested light sauce or on the side because all too often (as was the case here) it is sugary and dripping in excess. The pulled pork was 5-stars despite being soaked in bbq sauce. The surprising part was there was easily 1/2 lb of meat between the little round buns. The sausages were equally incredible... homemade and you could tell because the large casings were nearly impossible to bite through but inside was a lightly packed crumble of outstanding meat and spices. We ended up just sliding or squeezing the ground meat out of the two casings. Fortunately, no bbq sauce inside the casing so the meat was able to sing on its own. The lone disappointment were the ribs - there were only 4 and they were not especially warm nor tender. I was expecting fall-off-the-bone and these resembled ribs that had cooked for 2-3 hours but needed another 2 hours to be "done." You order at the window and there's an outdoor/covered picnic-like room about 40 feet away. There is no indoor seating. While flies can get into that open room (no door) it wasn't annoying at this time of year. Parking is easy in their private lot and everything was nicely packaged since every order is essentially to-go.
