This was my first time eating here. It was still dark at breakfast time and it seemed like parking was crowded outside but inside it wasn't even half full. There is a ten seat counter available, ten booths, and at least 16 tables, a few of them seating six or more. It is a good place to eat because there are a lot of local people eating here. Service was friendly, respectful, and well mannered. I ordered two eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. I think my food arrived in record time. They did have quite a few folks working in the kitchen. My meal was very good. I will definitely return here for breakfast again. read more

Red Wagon - Two Eggs, Sausage, Hash Browns and Toast - American Near Me - Brownwood, Texas

Red Wagon has been in Brownwood for years, as the Yellow Wagon before it became RED! They have homestyle cooking. Standard breakfast items & pancakes too. It's not fancy but usually clean & I prefer a non-smoking establishment. I believe they now have a non-smoking area. I believe they changed owners a few years ago & haven't been there for in a while. Lots of people go there for coffee every morning to talk w friends before work. They did have daily specials (not sure about that now). It's worth a try! read more

We were in search of a good breakfast spot to stop at while headed to Dallas. Summer, our waitress set the tone from the moment we walked in. A warm greeting as soon as we walked in and sat! Summer helped us navigate the menu, and hooked it up our cinnamon roll with some butter warmed up to start. Ask for grilled biscuits, it's an absolute must. While Summer welcomed other guests walking in, checked in on her other tables she made sure we had all we needed once our breakfast came. Our coffee stayed filled (very important lol) bellies full and the best customer service we could have asked for. The diner vibe we wanted was perfect. The space was open, with tables and booths for all size of parties ready to sit. Ps. Cinarolls are made I house Sundays only! & if you want the best service ask for Sunmer! The sweetest, with the biggest smile, an her starry night apron! read more

The food is ok but the service isn't consistent. I guess it depends on your server. I tip pretty decently but hardly ever get refills. I guess I'm not part of the " Good O'l Boys " network? Something gotta change. read more

Since there are few choices in Brownwood for breakfast mid day, i keep trying Red Wagon from time to time. Food is ok, staff is ok, but the wait time is totally unacceptable. Their response to this problem is even more unacceptable. Today we were seated for an hour and 15 minutes waiting for a bacon and egg breakfast. We left without ever receiving food. Management had a couldn't care less attitude and commented, thats just the way it is. Obviously management is the real problem. If they don't care their employees certainly couldn't care less. read more

Good home cooked food and great service. Nothing special on the decor, but that's not what you go here for. Portions are generous here.

The over medium eggs had runny whites. The hash browns were slightly brown on the edges, but mostly loose potato flakes, tough and somewhat warm. The sausage patties were tough enough that I used a knife to cut a bite from one. On the plus side, the coffee was hot, fresh, and flavorful. The service was excellent. But all in all, yesterday's complimentary breakfast at a Fairfield Inn was better. read more

We went for the first time today and it was very busy, every time we come through town it seems to be busy so we assumed it must be good. We ordered the lunch special, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, black eye peas, collard greens, white gravy, rolls and a piece of cake. We should've ordered the breakfast since that's what they seem to be known for. The potatoes tasted like the boxed flake kind, the gravy was definitely powered, collard greens were tasteless no seasoning at all, black eye peas were ok. The chicken fried steak was over cooked, I didn't try the rolls or the cake I was basically just over it at that point. Waitress was fast and friendly as well as the hostess. Definitely diner vibes which I like and of course this is only my opinion, but we wouldn't go back. read more

10/10 Restaurant all around. I've been eating here for 10+ years and i've never had a bad experience.

Waited 20 plus minutes for our food while everyone around us who came later got theirs. Then at the register the owner is over here rolling her eyes (not exactly sure why). Asked if they had military discount out of curiosity to which she rudely responds "if I did, my prices would be higher etc (couldn't hear the rest cuz my child was screaming) but honestly a simply no would've been just fine didn't have to add all the extra stuff. Never coming here again. Awful. Oh our food wasn't even warm when we got it so thanks for that. Good-luck and have a good day! read more

I was traveling from Pecos back to my home in Troup alone, about a 9-10 hour drive, and found this little gem of a place after a few failed attempts at closed restaurants in 3 towns before. Cute decor! When I walked in, my phone was almost dead and they found a place to let me charge it. I ordered something off menu and they did an amazing job! Anytime I am in the area, I will definitely stop here! Amazing food (sorry no pics, my phone was charging), amazing service. I think they close at 2 so get there early, it's % worth it! read more

Service sux, unless your a man. I got there sat at counter 3 servers looked at me. Said nothing finally server came over I ordered coffee oj an breakfast. She said it'll be a while for drinks. Friendly and attentive, of course the place was crowded for a good reason. It's a diner, with diner style, which is really good. If you like good American Diners, you're going to love this space. read more

Breakfast I'm Brownwood this morning. It was an old "dinner" feel. I was not impressed with the "biscuits" but to each his own. Hash browns were good good and my well done bacon was fantastic!! Very nice staff, very busy too!! Our party was all happy with the food and we saw a lot of good looking plates being delivered!! You should check them out! Best part was the sign at front door: "Pull up your pants, no one wants to see your underwear!" read more

Great place for breakfast and lunch. They close at 2pm, wish they were open later! The food is amazing! Everything I've eaten there was great. This is my 2bd fav restaurant in town! read more

Great food. Great prices. It was super busy with lots of smiling faces. We came through town to buy a bull and the ranch owner recommended this restaurant. I absolutely loved the Mexican plate breakfast. The spicy potatoes and refried beans were outstanding. We'll be back. read more

Five starts and add one more for the prices. This place was great. Stopped here for a quick breakfast and was very pleased with the overall experience. The service was good, food was great, and the servers moved fast. read more

Always good, always friendly, always fast, always reasonably priced. Their lunch specials are great.

Terrible. Staff was abrupt , dismissive and never smiled or made eye contact. Was unable to eat the food. My son declared it the worst French toast he'd ever eaten - how do you mess up French toast ?? The cream being offered for the sub par coffee was packets of dry powder. Unimpressed!! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast here. Even on a busy Sunday morning I was able to get a seat immediately. Service was fantastic. The waitress took our drinks orders quicky and we had both our drinks and food within a short amount of time. The breakfast special was 4.89 and it included two eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns. The food was pretty good and the restaurant had homemade salsa to put on the eggs. I definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Red Wagon - a breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast - American Near Me - Brownwood, Texas

Locals favorite! Our favorite when in the area. Great prices, great service, great food. The pancakes are so good!

Went there with my family. Had little kids with us. Took an hour and a half to get our food while others around us (regulars) were getting their food. I used to love this place but now I probably won't be returning unless they can do a better job! read more

I can't give the Wagon a bad review. If you're from out of town you might not understand the draw of this place, but the nostalgia is awesome. The people are great, the food is consistent. It's like going to grandma's. Red Wagon is a true Brownwood original. Love all the people who work there as well! read more

Excellent local cafe. Good food, great staff and fair prices. Yelp says I have a minimum # of characters before posting ..............

Generally you can't go wrong at the Wagon. Get the lunch special, breakfast or a burger and it's consistently good. Sometimes it's really smokey and sometimes it's not too bad. The coffee is perfect diner coffee. Nothing fancy. Onion rings are great. Patty melt is delicious. Meatloaf Mondays are my favorite. The specials they have on the white board menu can be hit or miss. Soups are usually awesome. The Reuben is something to avoid at all costs. The club is a classic and is always good. Get there early for biscuits or grits. If you get there too late you may miss out on the good veggies on the lunch. The waitresses are sassy and some of the best in town. read more

I was one of a party of four on a Sunday morning. We were seated after a few minutes but not forewarned that the food would not be ready for 45 or more minutes. Prices were low and the rest of the party was satisfied with their choices. I ordered French toast and I would not recommend it to anyone. The TV was set to OAN. Not something I would recommend in a public place. No half and half for coffee was available and milk had to be requested. Parking was hard to find. I would not choose to go there again. read more

Best eatery in Brownwood. Family- owned & operated, friendly and moderately priced. And the wait staff are the greatest ladies on earth

I recently visited this place for the first time since living here for 4 years. I always heard that the breakfast is amazing but the place is disgusting and covered in smoke. Well, we went and they had completely gotten rid of the smoking section and cleaned the walls and all that good stuff. So is it still a old diner feel, yes. But no where near as gross as people said it was before they banned smoking in the restaurant. The breakfast was so good!! The pancakes are amazing. read more

This place has wildly cheap breakfast specials, but it ain't exactly healthy. First off you'll be taking in about a pack of cigarettes without smoking due to the 2nd hand, and second, you'll suffer a heart attack from the heaps of grease they fry the eggs, bacon, whathaveyou. It's definitely an experience to be had if you're ever in a people-watch mood. read more

I used to always enjoy the food and service here. Then the past few years or so, I've been less than impressed. BUT... I recently got over a food-borne bacterial illness that lasted almost a month, and the last place I ate was at Red Wagon. I love the place, but I'm not taking my chances anymore. read more

Something's changed at the Red Wagon. New cook? The chicken fried steaks just aren't the same anymore. It went from a fairly decent batter to what I can only call a grease-skin. Everything else is pretty much the same, but the chicken fried steak is the usual daily special, and I think this has really upset a lot of people. Sunday is turkey and dressing day, but lately, something's funky with the turkey and the dressing. Someone posted about it being non-smoking, but I've never seen that change. The whole place is SMOKING except for a little room in the back. If they served beer and dimmed the lights a little, it'd be busy all night. read more

Too much cigarette smoke. At least invest in better ventilation/ commercial air cleaner or offer outside patio for non smokers. Staff are very nice though. Food was just ok. read more

This place is a legend. I love it for the fact that you will always have a friendly waitress, a hot plate, unlimited coffee, fast service (except for rush hour on SUnday) Ive been coming here since high school & its still one of my favorites because the price is right, they have a huge selection, plate lunches, take out, & a great breakfast...altho last time I was there they were serving boneless sliced ham & that sucked but over all its a winner. read more

I had lunch today with my Mother and her boyfriend and it was OK. While I was growing up my father (3 packs a day) got me used to cigarette smoke during a meal so I was not especially bothered by the smoking section. I had the chicken salad sandwich with the homemade beef and vegetable soup and both were good. I also had the fried okra which was good as well. I agree with all the other reviewers here - stick to the specials and you should not be disappointed. I was not surprised by the Fox TV channel on the TV (this is central Texas after all) but not happy about yet another public propaganda showing for the BSC repubs. read more

Best restraunt n town great food friendly waitresses hot breakfast all day come on down

Good old home style meals and it doesn't cost a lot.Everything to breakfast, hamburgers and more!

The food was very good. The staff was sweet as could be. We stopped in for breakfast at the start of a roadtrip from Austin to New Mexico. We had standard breakfast fair of scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and a pork chop! However, they allow SMOKING IN THE RESTAURANT. Are you kidding me??? Is it 1980??? There's a smoking section, but you obviously can smell smoke throughout the restaurant! I'm disappointed that smoking indoors is even legal. Come on Texas!!! read more
