Great way to get around the city without wasting gas and having to deal with parking. Train drivers were all nice and courteous, after two times through the tour we could recite the whole speech. Needs cushions on the seats. All in all we got the package deal and it was worth it to us. read more

We love the red train. I found it a great way to see St. Augustine, get the history, get around town (used it as a taxi), and the guides were mostly humorous. We have done the trains on three different trips (and a fourth time for the nighttime Christmas lights). We no longer do them because we heard that, see it and we know our way around now. Half the time we found discount coupons to make it more affordable. Also if you park on one of the further stops, you don't pay for parking and the train takes you into town. Save $5-10 on parking. We have had some weak, tired, bored guides, but most were charming and humorous. read more

After living in Florida my entire life, I finally made it up to St. Augustine this past weekend and everything was perfect. The weather, the company, and all of the activities we did made it to be an amazing trip! After walking around town all day long, nothing seemed better than to just sit down for a little bit. We decided to join the Red Train Tour at Ripley's and I would suggest you do the same. The full tour lasts just over an hour if you ride it all the way through. Our tour guide was Smokey and he was incredible. Charismatic, full of knowledge and Smokey extras, and gave out points if you could answer trivia questions (which were worth nothing, but still fun). He added a personality to the tour that made the time go by quickly and the tour very enjoyable. He also made sure everyone getting off knew when the last shuttle would be and how to get back to their destination. He had to switch to another driver at the end of the tour, and I couldn't wait to get off; she knew her history, but wasn't very interesting to listen to. The train itself is easy to find at Ripley's and offers many hop-on and hop-off spots all over the city. But if you take the full tour, know that the seats are not padded and the ride can be pretty bumpy on the old streets Overall, I would recommend the Red Train Tour very highly. I know the experience can vary depending on the driver you get, but cross your fingers for Smokey! read more

It was a lot of fun hearing the different historical stories, and the guide Sally was really interactive and fun. The conductor (Cheryl) was awesome too. They had a lot to say and we got lights and an electrical reader for the tour. Highly encourage flash photography as well. I didn't see anything really but had a blast regardless. We also got a tour of inside the castle which was really cool and creepy. Definitely worth checking out. I would visit again! read more

My husband and I purchased the 3 day pass. We had a great experience. The train takes you to every attraction in St Augustine. Most of the drivers were very entertaining with their historical narratives especially Smokey. You can get off the train at any stop and then when you are ready for your next destination, you just go back to where they dropped you off at and wait an average of 10 minutes. Would definitely use them again. read more

What fun!! This was not my first experience with tour trains but certainly one of the best. We did this in conjunction with the Ripley museum and planned out the day to ride, sightsee, ride, eat, etc. It was wonderful. For the majority of the tour Tony was our guide. He was interesting, knowledgeable, well spoken, and fun! He added little nuances that made the tour seem very personal for all of us. I highly recommend doing the tour as well as the Ripley's museum. Awesome tour guides, if you park at Ripley's you get free parking and it's great if you use this train as transportation around the city, it's great. If it starts raining they give you a poncho and the drivers are so friendly and help engage passengers about the history of the city. read more

This is the second year in a row we have used Red Train Tours. This train was very easy for my husband, who is in a wheelchair, to hop on and off of and in and out of his chair. Our tour guides were very informative and knew their facts! Smokey was our favorite! His colorful personality made the tour phenomenal! We were happy with each guide. Seems to be two major "tour trains" in old St. Augustine, this Red Train and another. We should have realized something - competitor trains were frequent and packed with customers; Red Trains were virtually empty on a crowded Friday Spring Break afternoon. We picked Red Train and we were totally wrong! Don't make our mistake! Use the Other service! Four if us bought tickets and waited for next train. 20 minutes later it arrived almost empty, but drove right thru Ticket Office "station" without stopping and left without us. Ticket seller's excuse was that "the driver was new"!?! Waited for nex train and finally started tour; initially was OK, but was difficult to hear driver's narration due to nosiness of train's suspension on old streets. Then driver stopped on a very busy street, announced he was done for the day and we'd have to get off his train and on to another. Only 4 of us on the train and it appears they didn't think it was worth their time and gas. 10 minutes after boarding new train and about as far as possible from our starting point, new driver announces how wouldn't be going back to our starting point and we'd have to find our own way back. We pitched a fit, of course, and after numerous radio calls the "boss man" reluctantly approved taking these paying passengers back to their departure station. Meanwhile we were being passed by frequent competitor trains filled with apparently satisfied and happy customers. Don't make our mistake! read more

We have been using the Red Train for over 5 years. Each year it has been a very pleasant experience. This year we decided to go for the Christmas Season, mainly to see the NIGHT OF LIGHTS. We bought the 5 day pass along with the NIGHTS OF LIGHTS pass. We had rented a truck and spoke to "2" employees, both stated we would be able to park in their parking lot as long as we were customers and going to the NIGHTS OF LIGHTS. We asked were to park, anywhere on the lot, even over by the fence that divided the property from the other business, not the gate that closes the back lot. We went to dinner right away, went right back to Ripley's to catch the Train due to the crowds. Took the tour (APPRX., 6PM). TOUR when it was over(APPRX.,30/35 MINUTES) went back to Ripleys off the Train went right back to get our Vehicle. TO OUR SURPRISE!!!! Nothing, no vehicles were on the lots!!! Found an Employee who was cleaning the office... Spoke to him, Rude and RUDE TWICE OVER, his response READ the sign. Did not even know at first what he was talking of.... we stated that.....READ THE SIGN.... AFTER 5PM ALL VEHICLES ARE TOWED AFTER 5PM We stated we had a pass for paying customers, especially if you are going to go for the Tour of nights of lights. CALLED THE SUPERVISOR, he stated read your pass. Guess what there is no EXPIRATION OR TIME TO LEAVE THE LOTS. IMAGINE how much they made that night from all the Vehicles that were towed. It is not that we had not asked, questioned about the parking we had. We were given the pass we felt at ease. So they towed our Vehicle, a little over 300.00 later, to say the least we felt we and the others were scammed. You do not tell customers you have a pass to park, then tow you in the end, their statement we had signs on the gate, which by the way you do not see until the gates are closed, and you do not give out passes to the customers. read more

Maybe when it's not the busy season the Red Train is okay, but after doing the Old Town Trolley last year and the Red Train this year I can see a big difference. I don't usuually write bad reviews, but the experience was so much worse than Old Town Trolley, I wanted people to know. With the Red train we waited at least 25 minutes at each pick-up. At one stop we saw FIVE Old Town Trolley's come while waiting for ONE red one to come. I heard that there were only 6 red trains running and the other company must have many more, because when we took them we never had to wait that long. We wasted a lot of time just waiting. Also, one Old Town Trolley driver said that if we were still waiting when he got back he would let us Red Train people on! I am definitely going with them from now on! Faster and better customer service, even to the competition! ANOTHER down side: 4 o clock is the last pick up for both trolleys, but with the red train, if it's too full they just suggest you call a cab. When we went with the green (Old Town Trolley) if they are full at the end of the day, they will just keep sending them out until they get you to your car. They will not leave you stranded. Also, the reason we decided to try the red train was because it boasted lower cars that were easier to get on and since my husband has cerebral palsy thought that'd be a little easier. But the isles and opening were SO narrow, you had to turn sideways and it was really difficult to get up and down that way. He had a lot of trouble at one stop and the driver didn't even say anything or try to help. While Old town trolleys are a high step we can manage and will choose them next time because they gave us more time to actually enjoy St. Augustine. They are just a few dollars more and so worth it! read more

This trolley, was moderately priced. My family and I waited at every stop for 45 minutes to get picked up. When we did get picked up our tour guy pretty much told us that if we were going to continue to speak loud to get off the trolley. read more

Definitely do not waste your time or money on the red trolley tour. The first driver was telling us that he was from across the Ohio river & was mocking Ohio people. at the next stop 3 people got off the trolley & said they were from Ohio. They were insulted & offended. Then, later on when we got back on the trolley, the next driver kept mispronouncing words-for example, Genghis Kahn became Genghis Kane. Then, when we were stopping at the Ripley museum at a little before 2:30 today & the temperature was in the high 80's, there were a seriously elderly couple waiting outside the museum in the sun. they were slow moving & feeble. They appeared to be in their 80's. The lady was using a walker. As the trolley approached the couple, the elderly man was waiving his ticket. They were both wearing their red whistles. The trolley driver refused to stop! he drove by them!! I was shocked. Then, he made the elderly couple come over to where he did stop the trolley. we knew he had seen the old couple because, using the intercom system, he immediately told those of us who were on the trolley as it passed the seniors " they should know where the stop is." I was dumbfounded that someone providing a service in the tourist industry could be so callous & thoughtless. then, as the elderly couple were very slowly making their way over to the trolley, the driver said, "OK, we're ready to go." I became angry & yelled out "come on- they're disabled, what's the matter with you!" It turns out that he was in a bit of a hurry because his shift ended around 2:30. The trolly tour should be discontinued. read more

So this review is actually for their red train during Nights of Lights. My husband and I took our four kids to St. Augustine for a surprise birthday party for him, and then after we planned on riding the train to see the lights. I had pre-ordered tickets already. But when we walked back to Ripley's, we were told that we were 10 minutes too late and had missed the last train of the night. I was crushed; I really didn't want to tell my oldest that we couldn't ride, as he had been looking forward to it all night. But then someone came out and talked to the driver, and they offered us a private ride, just our family, because they didn't want us to be disappointed. I almost cried, I was so touched. It was the nicest thing, and I just could not believe how above and beyond the staff went. Our driver, Alex, was so friendly and we had such a great time. I am so grateful to Ripley's for not only giving us a great night on the train, but for going out of their way to make a family happy when they really didn't have to. You have earned a customer for life!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

We have visited St. Augustine at least a couple times a year over the last 8 years. On our recent visit, we decided to try the "red train". We had a coupon that gave us an incredible deal but we were not thoroughly impressed with the tour. First of all, we entered the store location near the Oldest Drug Store and no one was around. The store was open and we could have left with anything. It was a good 5 minutes or more before anyone showed up in the front. She was pleasant and completed the transaction quickly but did not provide any information about the tour or what to expect. We waited and waited and waited for the trolley to arrive. This was precious time that was being wasted for at least 20 minutes. Then we got on and could not understand the tour guide. I know about the town but my relatives were experiencing it for the first time ever. We got off and had lunch. Then we waited and waited and waited again for the trolley. When it arrived it was almost completely full and people did not want to move over for us. The driver was the same one as before and not very informative. I did like how at the end of the day they took you to your car. That is different from the other trolley company but they have a lot less riders than the Old Town Trolleys. They do have affiliations with more stores and restaurants that offer discounts throughout the city. However, I don't feel this makes up for the difference in the quality of the tour. read more

It was our first time in St Augustine and an employee at our hotel suggested the Red Train Tours. I'm so glad he did because it was my favorite part of the trip. We did a one day ticket but stayed on that train for hours. Our first driver, Daphne, was great! She made us laugh a ton and I loved her interactions with people on the street. She was hilarious. When we got to the headquarters, she unfortunately had to get off and was replaced by Jamie. We were planning on getting off at the next stop however, we stayed on for practically another whole trip because Jamie was amazing! He learned our names and made great conversation with his passengers. He knew so many people around town and it made us feel as if we were at home. The next day we ran out to get breakfast and saw Jamie on another trip and he remembered our names and said hello. Love that! These two drivers definitely made our trip :) read more

Don't waste your money on this, unless you have a reason that you aren't able to get around on your own. Everything is close enough together that it's really not necessary. We used this to ride from the ticket booth to the fort, and never boarded again. In fact, we never saw a red trolley again that day. Our timing may just have been off, but we saw the other trolley line multiple times. read more

I've been coming to St. Augustine since 2000 at least twice a year. We now have a vacation house here so we're in town even more. Every trip we buy our 3 day passes for the Ripley's Train tours m. It's an absolutely fantastic thing to do if you've never been to this old city before (even people who return, of course). There are about 24 stops within the city it makes. So even after day one or two of hearing the tour guides talk, you can use this train as a way to go from place to place in the city or just sit and ride to relax. Each tour guide has different historical stories about the city (all factual) so each time you can always hear a new interesting fact. This is definitely a attraction I would do (Especially for those history buffs out there!). It's an open train so you'll be able to see everything. You can get on and off as you please. And there's many trains running constantly so you won't have to wait long to catch it again at the many various spots! Go and enjoy! read more

I recommend the old trolley over the red train. There are twice as many old trolley and I saw the old trolley driver stop and give all the passengers free rain ponchos. When a red train finally showed up the driver told if I didn't like the wait We could wait longer and take a van back. Very expensive not worth the money for a family of four. Please save your money... no ghosts here! With high hopes of a good ghost story and a few scares, we boarded the red train eager to see what was in store. This was the most disappointing tourist attraction I've ever been on. Before leaving the station, you are armed with "ghost detectors" and hopes of some great theatrics for the night. It doesn't take long to find out just how useless these devices actually are. I was all game for the first ghost stop where the legends were pretty good but nothing happened. No fog, no paranormal activity, no detections of ghost from the phony "ghost detectors," nothing. Literally an empty room. We were told to take lots of pictures because something might show up when we inspect them after the tour is over. Really? That's it? Take pictures of what? There was literally nothing there. We moved on to the next location which was the fort, but only to walk around the outside because it's locked at night. Could have done that for free... but take pictures in case something appears tomorrow. Finally our last destination which was Ripley's Museum. Now this could have been really cool since they own the place. I was expecting something sinister at the very least... but no. Only a couple more ghost stories but no theatrics, no fog, no mysterious noises or bumps in the night, no ghost sightings, nothing but "take lots of pictures." Ripley's really missed the mark on this tour. It could have been so much more. With Halloween Horror Nights and other great attractions in the State, this really doesn't compete. I would not recommend this to anyone nor would I pay for it again. Couldn't wait for it to end. read more

This is a sad story with a great ending: I was sitting my kid's dog, Tiffany, as I often do. All of a sudden, Tiffany was nowhere to be found. I called her name inside and outside the house and even had my assistant helping too. Once I realized she was missing, I panicked! I called the cops, animal control, got the neighbors in on it--you name it. Then I had the unfortunate task of calling my kid to tell her what probably is the worst news ever: her baby was missing. Then animal control calls; someone at the Red Train Tour station found a dog. Without delay, I bolted to the train station barefoot. As soon as I arrived, I hear "I've got Tiffany," from the mouth of a dear friend and employee of Red Train, Brad. When Tiffany got through the gate at my house, she immediately hopped on the Red Train as it went down our street. Daphne, the tour guide, kept Tiffany along as she finished her tour and brought Tiffany back to the station. Tiffany had the best time evidently and the staff was so great with her. We were so appreciative of their kindness that my kid and I took cards and cupcakes to the station to thank this incredible staff. Tiffany had no idea what a hysteria she caused because she had such a good time on her Red Train tour. I suspect this won't be her last train ride. read more

Our family Christmas always includes a trip on the Christmas Light Train. Everyone looks forward to the fun experience. This year, not so much. I don't have a problem with the lines but after the increased price and the super short ride, I don't know if we will be doing this again. We used the train while visiting St. Augustine this past weekend. We found it to be enjoyable and fairly informative. Our first driver was Kevin (the first Kevin, as there are apparently more than one) and he put on an amusing show while taking us around. We took the full tour the first time around then got off and on at various spots around town. All the drivers were different and had various styles but they all did a good job. We didn't have to wait more than twenty minutes for a train at any point, exactly as we were told when we bought our tickets. We had our small dog with us and as long as we kept him on our lap he was allowed on board. All in all it beats walking all over town on a hot summer day! read more

The tour was solid. Very informative and stopped at all the best attractions in St. Augustine. Being able to get on and off the trains for however long is a great touch that made the experience very enjoyable. I ended up having three different tour guides. The first put us off to a rough start. He was easy to hear thanks to the nice speakers and microphone each train was equipped with, but I really didn't want to have to listen to him. After that though things brightened up. Our next guide was witty and full of energy and gave us some very interesting info about the civil rights movement and its roots in St. Augustine. The third and final tour guide made the tour exceptional. He was a man who seemed to fit right into the the laid back attitude that I came to Florida for. Very informative, but not to intrusive on my viewing experience made him the ideal tour guide. Much like most tours the experience was dictated mainly by the guide, but over all this was a great tour with solid trains and great stops. read more

Have to say what a great time we had on the Red Train tour! We are a local family of five, and had two out of town guests; our group consisted of a senior, three adults, a teenager, and two young children. Decided to take them on a tour, and so glad we did! This was a great tour that ALL ages thoroughly enjoyed. As locals, we haven't done the tour in years. Our driver was Bob, and he was superb. He really knew his history, was funny, and was a great driver! I can't imagine navigating those streets and turns in a car, much less a huge train! Kudos to Ripley's for having such a stellar train driver and tour guide! Can't wait to go back and tour again, and when we do, we will request Bob! read more

On July 15-19, 2015, myself and 8 friends vacationed in St Augustine. Knowing that we did not want to drive anywhere, we all booked a 5 day Ripley's Red Train ticket about a month prior. We know that the train stopped before dark, but we were ok with that. The first day we checked into our hotel, the Historic Howard Johnson. We choose this hotel each trip as the trolley stop in the parking lot is perfect for us. We waited about 30 minutes for a train. All the while seeing multiple green and orange trolleys stop. We gave up and walked to the headquarters (across the street and a few blocks up), the woman there said that she was closed but helped us pick up our tickets anyway. Waited another 10 minutes and was able to board the next train. Each day of the trip the train service seem to bet getting worse. It was 30-45 minutes between trains. At one point we waited at the Fort for about 35 minutes and mentioned it to the driver. He was very apologetic and told us to call Sonny, who is the manager and inform him of the issue. Once we were back to our hotel, I called Sonny and explained to him that the frequency in which the trains were arriving at each stop was far longer than the advertised 20 minutes. Generally seeing 2 green trolleys before being picked up by the Red Train. He just told me that he had 11 trains out and not sure how that is possible. Pretty much calling me a liar. We have used the Red Train every year we come down and never had problems like this. He apologized and offered our party of 9 free tickets to the Ripley's Believe or Not Museum. This was acceptable in my opinion. He told me to call at 10am the next day and he will arrange it. As this is one of our last days, we were up and out at 8:30am. We had called the Red Train service and asked what time a trolley was to get to the Howard Johnson, she explained that it would be there at 8:50. We decided to walk to the Mission Nombre De Dios, but one of my friend had forgot something and had to go back. It was about 9am and that point so he called dispatch again to inform them that not train had come and the woman put him on hold and said we are having issues, we will send a van for you. He said we were already moving on. We continued to walk towards the Ripley's Museum. I called the office at 10am and after 3 times being disconnected after asking for Sonny, the other man on the phone said, yes I know who you are, you will have to come to our headquarters at 170 San Marco, "by the museum". So, I said ok, we will be there. Wasn't long after we figured out that, that location is nowhere near the museum but past even our hotel. We knew that getting a train was going to waste at least an hour to get there. My friends and I decided to do go on with our day and forget the mess. We continued to have slow service with the Red Train the rest of our stay. Vowing to never use them again. There was not much else we could do about it. I felt personally responsible as I am the one who planned the trip and told everyone to book it. Side note: The Green Trolley service runs HOURS after the Red Train. This would have been very helpful in getting places after 4:30pm, as this is when the Red Train stopped running. At one point, we have a Green Train at our stop at the Howard Johnson at 7:30pm. And the Green Trolley has cushioned seats as oppose to the wooden benches of the Red Train. Also, at one point while just hanging out at the pool at our hotel, we saw 2 Red Trains within 5 minutes of each other. Perhaps the issue was not the amount of trains, but the spacing in between them. read more

Real bad choice because they are NOT HONEST. Here is the scam if you are over 55 you buy your ticket and your partner's ticket is substantially cheaper, the problem is they do not tell you this. Our problem started when they decided the second day that they will not service the Old Sugar Mill stop. I had to walk almost a mile with two small kids to their depot. Well my wife was not happy and with a valid reason. We purchased the tickets because we were staying close to the Old Sugar Mill train stop. I said nothing about the walk as walking is a healthy thing. While talking to another couple that walked the mile with us I found out that they scammed me out of the senior citizen discount as well. When I complaint the man in charge said that he would not have me raise my voice in his office. Well now I raised my words. Red Train management crooks!! too bad the conductors were not bad. They also have a problem with the connection to Anastasia Island for the lighthouse and the Gator Farm. Use the Old Town Trolley much better cars, better and faster service, more stops, less problems, more comfortable ride. read more

He was fun, energetic ( and it was a cold night!) and he gave us some wonderful information about the St. Augustine area. My husband and I toured again just to remember all of the information. We were interested in taking the Red Train Nights of Lights tour. We called Ripley's and asked if they offered complementary parking with the ticket and they answered yes, if spaces were available because it was a Friday night. When we arrived at the entrance the guard directing traffic at the entrance of the parking lot said all spaces were occupied, so we looked for parking. After a long time we found parking and headed to buy our tickets. When we got to the booth, located at the parking lot, we noticed there was a space available and asked Ladonna, the ticket seller, if we could move our car to the available space, since a person in our party was handicapped, and she said yes. Once again we spoke to the guard and he said NO and ignored us without giving us the opportunity to explain. Rude!!!! Then we went to Ladonna to see if we could explain ourselves better and could be allowed, she then completely changed her answer. Now we couldn't park and made us feel stupid. We gave up asking for the parking spot and asked Ladonna if we could buy tickets for the trolley and asked about the long line thinking it was the line to buy tickets. Once again she made us feel stupid, answering very rudely that she only sold tickets. Never again!!!! We left and gave our money to the Holly Jolly Holiday Trolley at the Old Town Trolley right next door to Ripley's. Highly recommend the Old Town trolley, very courteous and professional. read more
