Rockport Bar is the only local food spot in town. My Airbnb was conveniently next door to this bar,…read moreso after a long day at North Cascades, I was rushing over. Environment: It is important to note that no minors are allowed into the establishment. The server asked for my ID as soon as I entered. It looks like the bar has music and bingo on some nights. The bar was filled with locals only. Service: The server welcomed me in and I got to pick any table I wanted. She was overall very nice. Food: I was disappointed that they had no more burgers around 7pm, so I ordered the wings and meat pizza. I could tell that the wings were freshly made- I would have preferred if they were crispier but they were decent. The chicken itself lacked some salt but nothing that the blue cheese couldn't fix. The pizza wasn't bad, it reminded me of Domino's pizza.

Oh, and the campground, which is where we often spend a lovely North Cascades weekend and which is how we found our new favorite dive bar. Yes, it's sort of a dive. So if you don't like dive bars, you're out of luck and may as well just stay at your campsite. But if you don't mind the quaint anti-sophistication of dated decor, strong drinks, and hit-and-miss food you've come to the right place. Usually, we're here on the weekends so we just get a beer. And they've got some decent local taps - along with some requisite 'Merican classics like Bud Lite. We usually settle in with a couple of pints from Georgetown Brewing, and enjoy whatever the pub is offering that night. If you happen to come on one of their legendary Thursday comedy nights, you might be surprised at the level of comedic genius you hear. Especially if you can get past the often shellshocked comedians who make the eternally long and tedious drive from Seattle to perform here. On Fridays, they have bingo and karaoke. And on Saturdays, there's almost always a live band. Sundays, they've got brunch and $6 bloody marys. Like I said, there's always something to do at the only place in town to do anything! I haven't always loved their food, but recently we decided to give their burger a try and it was pretty good. They also have some decent-looking pizzas. I wouldn't recommend the tacos, if you happen to be there on taco Thursday (though they do have a kick-ass margarita special that night)!

We ordered burgers and I asked for my fries 5x crispy. The cook adhered to my request and honestly exceeded my expectations. The burgers were stellar. Well assembled, not overly greasy, patties slightly charred at the edges and they didn't fall apart. Reasonably priced as well. Exactly what we were looking for, exceeding expectations for a small town, local restaurant. Service and food were so good we returned on 5/10. This time we ordered a pizza, burger and onion rings. The pizza dough was pretty undercooked on the bottom. The crust was done well however. I will give the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to a fluke as the service remained amazing and the rest of the food was outstanding. The burger maintained its rating from the previous days meal. The onion rings were fantastic. Perfectly fried and crispy/crunchy. I was able to break them in half/bite off a piece and the breading remained stuck to the onion. Also, if you're a Bigfoot enthusiast, this is your kind of place (I'm a Bigfoot enthusiast). Overall a fantastic experience. Shoutout to Bre for being a wonderful server. To the cook, keep doing what you're doing because that was food was delightful. 10/10 recommend.

Set in a cute picturesque town over a charming little bridge Whistle Stop Tavern sits in a row of businesses. They are known for their fried chicken & jojos so of course we had to order some of that! We had 7 ladies who had been grazing all day up at the hot springs on charcuterie & various other snacks we packed with us but after an hour long downhill hike in the cold November PNW weather we were ready for some hot food. We also ordered each of their wing flavors. BBQ, Buffalo & Lemon Pepper, plus a large house salad. The fried chicken was very tasty. We could see from the bar that they use a pressure fryer, so it keeps the meat juicy & the exterior crisp. You get a half of chicken cut up in pieces in one order, 1 drum, 1thigh, 1 breast & a wing. It was perfect for sharing. Super casual as it is a tavern with lots of bar & table seating. They also have a pool table(FREE pool Monday nights) & of course big screens for sports watching or MTV videos were actually playing when we were there. Charming spot with a nice bartender & even nicer regulars. A table of locals asked us where we were going to have dessert at & told us about the Pie Dive Bar...they said we MUST give it a try, so WE DID! If you're ever in Skykomish, WA stop by Whistling Post Tavern for some tasty chicken...they have fried seafood too, & drinks.

During our last trip in the area, we decided to go on in for a drink. Dive bar fans, this spot is absolute GOLD. If you're in the area for a hike? Stop in for a post hike beer. In the area just passing through? Literally pull over for a drink or two and a respite from the car. Whatever you're doing in Index, there is no reason not to stop at the Sand Bar. The Sand Bar is nautical themed and so much fun. Themed to the NINES. As an event planner, their dedication does not go unnoticed. There's also so many fun fish tanks around! Kinda makes you feel like a kid again to just watch them swim around while you're relaxing. Would I suggest saving an appetite for this spot? Honestly, no. They have a DIY chili dog bar and rotating specials but all of the food is ready to go in crockpots. That said, if it was midnight and I had a few cold ones, I might just be inclined to make myself a DIY chili dog. I'm just being honest here. I did see in the parking lot that the local pizza spot will deliver here, so that might be a more sanitary option, but what's the fun (and gamble) in that? There's a fun outdoor area with eclectic seating and beautiful mountain views if you're there during the day. No liquor here, but they've got solid beer, wine, cider/seltzer options. The co-owner was working when we came in and he's a super nice guy. We complimented the bar and he insisted we give his wife all the credit as it was her idea and she was "nice enough to let him work there." We informed him we'd be back in the area for our June wedding and were planning on stopping in after we got married and he gave us a business card with their personal cell number to TEXT and let them know how many people from our wedding were gonna come in so they could prep karaoke and stay open a little later. I mean, how sweet is that!?!? Highly suggest supporting this small business whenever passing through Index - we can't wait to come back after our wedding. We're seriously rolling with our wedding party + then some.

We checked out this pie-themed bar on a recent trip to La Conner, and it did not disappoint. We were craving a sweet treat after a delish dinner nearby, and this was one of the only spots open after 8pm. (If you know La Conner, you know how thrilled we were to discover this. The town pretty much shuts down at 6pm!) We grabbed a table by the window, ordered a giganto piece of coconut cream pie to share (and an equally generous slice of chocolate bourbon pecan to take back to the RV for breakfast the next day). Both were delish, but if we had to choose again the coconut cream pie was the best of the two. They also offer savory pies here, so let's just say we'll be stopping in again soon! I noticed they have a beautiful outdoor patio as well, so I can easily see myself sitting out there with a slice of chicken pie and a cocktail on a breezy summer afternoon.
