Stopped by Red Top for some Pho on a nice rainy day. I got the brisket pho and chicken pho. Pho tasted bland not a lot of flavor in the broth. The chili oil they have is great. A little over priced for pho. The chicken pho tasted like boiled chicken with no seasoning. The chicken was very rubbery. Would not get again. Want to give this place another shot and really want to like it as it's close proximity to me. Hopefully was just an off day. read more

BP is my hometown and so happy to visit my parents and find a pho spot here! I've been recovering from a respiratory infection and the pho tom hit the spot and helped clear my nose! It's like caldo de pollo- the pho just hits right when you're ill or need to warm your bones! The large was a perfect size to split between two soup bowls (shared pho with my Mama). We also got an order of soft egg noodles with chicken, beef, and veggies for my Dad. He said the sauce is so tasty & we will definitely be back for more egg rolls, pho, and noodle dishes! From the outside, this place looks more like a donut or a fast food joint. But once you step foot inside, you'll smell the pho. I'm not a big fan of the lights and ceiling fans in the restaurant though. The ceiling fans kept creating a strobe effect with the lights and it made me feel uncomfortable. Service: We were greeted by a nice gentleman who let us sit anywhere. He kept coming to check on us throughout our meal and was so friendly. Small mom and pop cafe/ operation that serves far and some other popular Viet food items. The folks here were very friendly, and I came in to have dinner. Kind of a small dining room so it's a little cozy. I couldn't really decide what I wanted so I just went with pho - Red Top Special. Got the large...and oh boy was it a large bowl. Pad thai noodle, not the best I've had. This was my first and last time trying at this location. The pad thai noodle is plain, dry, comes with bean sprouts and sprinkles of peanuts on the side of the dish. Also, the noodle color is wrong and plain. They gave me only 5 shrimps, and only two was cleaned without the shrimp vein or digestive tracts. Very dry and disappointing. I should have known when they didn't have pad see ew on the menu that this dish is not worth the $18. Would not recommend this dish from this location. Service took a little long, even though I was the only one waiting. The server was nice though. I added Sriracha to make it sauce and give it a kick. The color of the chilli helps. read more

I feel bad, but after my latest experience, it just felt so questionable. I've been here multiple times, and ignored the red flags. I feel like the younger bilingual guy who used to work here kept everything from sinking. This last time was so bad. There was a family using the side facing the parking lot to wash peoples car. They also use the restaurant 1 restroom for a really long time. The food was meh. We were served by an older non Vietnamese guy who was the only one who spoke English. It was super awkward. Man was answering calls and cleaning the back. The other two people were sitting there away from each other. The one English speaker left for awhile. There were two Vietnamese people there who didn't know how to ring up the bill. They did not speak a lick of English. The phone was ringing nonstop. The lady tried to get me to answer the phone for them. The man just kept telling me to wait for the one English speaker to return. We waited for probably 20 minutes. More family owned vibes. There was three staff from what I can see. I was greeted by a gentlemen right when I walked in. He politely asked me to go to the front register since I asked to order to go. The establishment is clean and there's a good amount of tables inside as well as patio seating outside. The menu is rather small, I decided to go with pad Thai. To be honest it didn't taste much like anything but then again to be fair I never really eat this dish so I have nothing to compare it to. I did like the chicken in tho that was yummy. My coworker had some and she said it was orange chicken meet pad Thai. Not too sure what she meant tho. As for the mango milk tea, loved it. Wasn't too over powering and it was a good thickness to it. Loved the way it taste I'll probably be stopping by once in awhile just for the mango milk tea. As for the parking there's a lot. I finally decided to try this place in Baldwin park that's known for their red top roof. My sister said it was good and the prices are cheap. It has been a while since she's been here and "inflation" has really drove up the price. Most plates I saw on the menu where about $8 each. There is a sticker on the menu to let me know that all dishes on the menu are $4 higher. I don't understand a $4 increase. Prices to eat out of going out of hand. It was about $90 for three plates, pho, spring rolls, and 5 Thai teas. I thought the prices was way too much. The thai tea was good. I ate the beef pad Thai. It was good, but I wish there was more beef. It's mostly based on the price I would not come back. There are other food options that are a better value. read more

I ordered large bowl of pho with crazy amount of noodles. The broth was pretty good. The chili sauce with lemon grass is so good that I used on everything. My husband ordered bo luc lac (shaken beef) with fried rice which was so good that I kept asking my him to give me more. The meat was so flavorful and tender. The rice was perfectly seasoned and the color on the rice was perfect. I can eat fried rice all day. My other favorite was my nephew crispy noodle. The abundance of meat, shrimp and veggies on top of the noodles was crazy. He couldn't even finish it. I loved the mixture of chicken, pork, shrimp, broccoli and bokchoy. The sauce under the noodle when you mix it up was so good. The thai ice tea was good too. I didn't like the jasmine tea it didn't taste like the jasmine tea we are used to. We have been going to red top periodically for several years, the food is good and the staff is usually friendly Just went today and found a huge discrepancy in pricing which was a bit of a slap in the face. The printed menu that is handed to you shows a price of 8.45 for a large bowl of most of their pho varieties, however the bill showed up and we were charged 12.45, a full $4 more than the printed menu price, a dollar more than their own website's price. The small bowls were also significantly more, to the tune of around $3 more. We didn't notice this discrepancy until after we had left and we're squaring away who owes eachother what. I understand that times are tough and restaurants need to increase prices to get by, but that charge coming as a surprise at the end of the meal is not acceptable, the menu needs to be updated to reflect this increase in price. read more

The place didn't look like a vietnamese restaurant on the outside but surprisingly solid pho. There was only one host/waiter/cashier bit then again the place was on the smaller side. A lady in the back, which I'm assuming was the cook, seemed like she was the only one cooking but the food came out fairly quick. With the aesthetic looking the way it did, the biggest surprise of them all was that the pho was actually pretty solid. If I lived in the area, it would probably be my go to. In Baldwin park, having authentication Asian food is a rarity. Red Top kitchen is one of the few exceptions of having authentication Vietnamese Pho. The location is a little bit sketch since it's in a weird area. When I went at night, the lights were flickering in the parking lot and it was really dark -- straight out of a horror movie. However entering this place, it's a very comforting, inviting, and homey feeling restaurant. Seated quickly and the menu has a good selection. I ordered the combo pho in the large and my friend got the normal size. The broth tasted good, not a heavy MSG taste so it's an authentic broth. One of the best things about this place is portion sizing and cost. The normal size pho is the large in most place. The large is a good portion and is larger than most places. The cost is very affordable, less than 10 for the large. Overall, 5 stars. I like the taste, service is quick, good portions, and good value. read more

Story time; 1- Around the covid time it was open but the cook wasn't wearing a mask while cooking and serving food then which was a problem for me. I stopped coming for months. I missed it! Ok gave it another shot 2nd: time around he was out of sight I stood food was amazing. Ugh, today he was there He was sitting down watching TV and eating fries like he was at home. Ok, so I order he gets up, ugh! I watched him the whole time. He never washed his hands and proceeded to grab my noodles with his bare hands. I've had it with him!!!! He is dirty and careless. This place needs a huge deep clean. The soup quality is amazing best broth I've ever had however, it needs to be cleaned/deep and dishes bussed as soon as a customer leaves. I've been by this restaurant many time, and never had any interest in trying it. The building went through so many failed business, that I didn't have any confident in the lastest one. Nothing that they did to me personally, but I think it's because I know the history of this building. Before Red top, I think there was a couple of different Chinese fast food, and before that, it was hamburger stand, and before them, it was a Tastee freeze. So I saw this place on Yelp, and it had good reviews, so I wanted to give them the benifit of the doubt, and give them a try. We did, and we loved it. We ordered 3 different dishes, and all 3 were really good. The Pho, was not to bad, broth was very flavorful. Also got the dry Vermicelli bowl, with chicken and lettuce and other misc veggies, comes with an egg roll that had great flavor, hot and crispy. I could not come up with one thing bad about this dish. The last dish was their famous shaken beef with fried rice, the best of the three. The beef was flavorful, very tender, and the fried rice was kind of like Thai fried rice, great dish. Dinning area was a little small, but had that cozy feel to it. Outdoor seating was available, but nobody was using it, maybe used when necessary. Staff was very nice, friendly and attentive. I think we just found a nice little gem. $4 price increase on entrees & $1.50 on appetizers. Just paid $13 for a below average tasting large pho in Baldwin Park?!! We were told of the price increase right when we sat down. $4 is steep, especially when their price was about $8-$9 before. I get the inflation, if prices are increased, then serve better Pho. The Pho barely has any meat in it and the broth was not good, a bit sour tasting. I definitely won't be back if I'm in the area, I'd rather drive 10 mins to SGV and pay less or equal in price, but much better in quality. I was just about to walk away, when a man's voice said hello. Kinda gruff. Nothing extra by way of courtesy, hospitality or an extension of kindness. All business. I can appreciate the efficiency, but i was grateful that i was taking my order to-go. Looking over all the Yelp reviews & photos, I decided I wanted to try the #1 Grilled Meat Vermicelli & the Popcorn Chicken. My order came out pretty fast (about 10-15 mins), but i would recommend calling ahead of time and then just picking up. There are plenty of photos of the menu, so i won't add another. I did take photos of my order( see attached) #1 Grilled Meat Vermicelli Choice of grilled meat (pork, beef, chicken & for extra $, shrimp), 2 egg rolls, cucumber, bean sprouts, pickled radosh & carrots, cilantro, vermicelli & sauce. I chose the grilled pork. So delicious & tender. Popcorn Chicken. Pieces of chicken battered & fried. What they didn't mention is that they fry it with basil leaves. I thought that was interesting. The chicken smelled SO good that i just had to try it once i got into my car! It came out hot, crispy & juicy! I'd order this again!!! Results: Food: Pretty good. Portions are on the generous side. Service: Although short & not at all charming, i got my order very quickly & was taking it to-go anyway. Overall: I'd come back again for the food. I have fave places where i grin a bare the service because the food is amazing. I'm ok with this place because of that & i really dont want to dine in right now because of Covid19. Red Top continues to be amazing during Covid-19. It's one of the only Vietnamese options in the area and stands up to any other. Currently they're only doing takeout through a little side pick up window. The food is delicious, I got the eggrolls, spring rolls, and fillet mignon cubed. I've been coming here since their opening and it continues to amaze me and be a great option in Baldwin Park. Support local!
