We went for lunch on Thursday. It has all your usual suspects for a Asian Buffet in Tennessee. Limited sushi. The two stand-outs are the Squid Salad. Fantastic, the spicy flavors were perfectly blended and there is no hint of "chewiness". Which for a buffet is truly unusual. Also the Miso & Hot + Sour soups were very good. We come here more than I like to admit honestly. A glutton for punishment maybe. It is clean. Sometimes the food Is fairly decent. Exceptionally good? Never. My kids love Chinese and there isn't anywhere else close. The best local place is in Germantown, on Exeter. It's always clean and delicious, but it's another 15 minutes away and we already drive 25 minutes to get here. This Sunday after church, we enjoyed eating at Red Sun Restaurant and we think this is one of the best Chinese Buffet in Memphis. Since my Mom past away 1991, this place reminds me of her cooking. All the dishes are specially prepared with just right amount of chinese spices. The Cook makes the best salted pan fry shrimp & crab. My favorite dish is the seafood soup with fresh whole shrimp & fresh muscle. I get 1/2 cup of this spicy soup with green onion & cilantro. Mix it up, wait 2 min, then enjoy! Saturday, they cook pig feet with black bean & garlic (just way my Mom did). If you want REAL chinese food, this is the place. After being on the road for hours and coming back from a small vacation, we decided to stop here before going home. There was mixed reviews but we gave it a shot. At first glance the place looks great. A new and modern look and for the most part it's clean. We were greeted by the host and our waiter with genuine smiles. Some of the food looked good, but we could tell some of it was sitting for a while as well. I like to try a little bit of everything at a buffet, so I only put a small spoon of an item to try all of it in one or two plates. One of my favorite items is coconut shrimp and they serve it. There was only a couple spoonfuls and I could tell it was old just by looking at it. So I grabbed a few other items and then I saw a cook bring a fresh batch. I was shocked at what I saw next (saw it at other times too). The cook replaced the coconut shrimp and then scooped out the old shrimp and mixed it with the new batch. I scooped some on my plate and I could taste the old and new. From there, almost everything I had tasted old and like it sat for a while. My wife brought back sushi they had and it looked old too. Even the avocado was browning on some pieces. We took a couple bites of a couple different pieces and we spit it out. We couldn't eat it because it tasted gross and not cold. The desert was the same as the food. Sat out for a while and you could taste stale cookies and cold deserts were room temperature. The bathroom was clean and nice as well as the main areas. In all, it was quite disappointing. None of the food tasted fresh and some lacked seasoning. And the fact that they mix old and new is discouraging. My wife and I will not return. read more

I eat at a lot of Chinese buffets. In short don' t eat here one of the worst I've ever eaten at!!! By 8 the food on the buffet seemed to have sat for hours. The shrimp was hard as a rock and the fish other reviews talked about was hard and dry. The cheese dumplings were so hard they cut the insides of my mouth. The sushi was almost slimy. They tried to cover the lack of flavor by putting lots of pepper. Their dessert bar was nothing more than Little Debbie's broke up on trays. Which of been OK except for they were stale. This is one of the best Chinese buffets I have had. I usually steer clear of buffets, but my fiance is obsessed with Chinese buffets. He agrees with my first sentence. It's a great value. Plenty of seating with flat screen televisions and very clean. The staff is constantly changing out entrees and replenishing food items, so nothing just sits until finally consumed. There is a huge variety, and also FRESH SUSHI! I prefer raw sushi, which they have, the majority is cooked. They have fresh peel and eat shrimp, and shrimp entrees as well as chicken, pork, and beef. We have lived in Memphis for a year now and this is our go to. THe kids love it and it's reasonable. We love the variety of dishes they offer. The staff is always nice and we can see the dishes constantly being changed out. This is my third time at this restaurant. Usually, everything is well until today. My girlfriend and I came, and while eating, she found a roach in her cup. Without making an issue more significant than it is I grabbed the cup and found a waitress and made this concern known nicely. My cup was snatch from my head, and I was told in a rude tone, "I'll get you another one." We as for a bright cup upon the return of another drink and she still brought a dark red cup to the table. I was craving this buffet on Sunday. I don't know why I haven't eaten there in years and I rarely eat buffets. The desserts are the typical boring Chinese buffet desserts, but they have good ice cream that is not self service. The sushi rolls are good. Most are California type rolls with the imitation crab in the middle but they have a rainbow roll, too. I had the peal and eat shrimp. It was good. I tried the raw oysters. I thought they were good, but then wondered about eating buffet oysters. The calamari is salty. They have fried snow crab, which I just don't get the point. It's a Chinese buffet. Show me a good one in Memphis and I'll be impressed. That said, I've had a lot worse. I'd say it's maybe above average. They do have some fairly unique things (whole baby squids in spicy sauce) as well as some American and Japanese food, including sushi which I did not try (again, show me a buffet with good sushi). I commented to the manager about the ice cream machine not working and was told we would receive 10% off, however; when at the register to pay the "manager" guy says sorry I can't give you the discount I had promised because I spoke to the owner and they said no. We came in last night about 7:45 for a celebratory dinner, as this is normally one of our favorite places to eat. They don't close until 9:30. All of the food was old and barely filled, they did refill the lo mein while we were there, but no other dishes were refilled. The white rice was old and crunchy. The sweet biscuits were hard as rocks. The meatloaf pan was empty. We paid over $50 for 4 of us to eat here and left hungry. We come often and were very disappointed by the quality last night. 7:45 is too early to not put out any fresh food. Horrible and way over priced. Ate there on Sunday afternoon. Bill was 62 total for 3 adults and 3 kids. They charged an automatic "service" fee of 10% on my ticket. What the heck is that at a buffet? I downloaded yelp specifically to write a review on red sun. I went in to enjoy the buffet on my dinner break and was promptly seated and received my drink. Anything that could have been considered good ended there. I picked up the first plate only to grab a handful of something sticky all over the plate. Walking to the restroom to wash my hands I was greater by a foul cigarette odor followed by an even more foul odor in the restrook. I then proceeded to get another plate and begin walking through the line. The food was scarce and definitely not fresh looking but I continued anyways because I was really craving it. My very first bite was cold, I skipped that particular portion and proceeded to try the next portion of chicken. What do you know it was cold as well. I left it all there and made a plate of some of the more full, warm looking items and sat back down. Nothing changed the food that was warm was extremely salty and old tasting. I got up left a few dollars for a tip and walked out, something I have never done before. I will give my money to eat well buffet from now on.
