First of all we checked the reviews and the five star reviews were all lies! We thought because of the line of people, that this was going to be awesome barbecue, but we were wrong. We walked in and the walls, the floors and what I could see if the kitchen was filthy and we found a table to sit down. I literally had to wipe it down myself, after I cleaned the garbage off. I guess at this point we should have RAN! We sat for a few minutes and the waitress barked out our name and never gave us any plates or cutlery, and it got worse from there, the food was nasty no flavor and cold. The ribs were like jerky and you couldn't even chew it off the bone. Then because we were traveling, I went and use the restroom. Oh my goodness we should've done that first because we would've walked out. It was disgusting. I think this place needs to be reported to the health department. The best part of this experience is walking out the door when we left. For two couples we dropped 100 bucks for hardly any food that was cold that we could've gotten sick on. Is the food served worth $100? You be the judge by the pictures! We're just disgusted! We left half on the table. Maybe they could scrape the dishes and serve it to someone else. Hope this helps someone not to make the same mistake!

A big red and white shack in lush green country pasture land at the horseshoe end of a strange lost motel from a mid-century Hollywood scary movie set. The authenticity of the BBQ hits you when you walk in and sniff the air. A gleeful find. The brisket was nothing unusual, but the ribs were brilliantly done. Try all the sauces at your table waiting and feel free to sharpie the wall as thousands of patrons have. Channel your Guy Fieri here and butter up the corn bread.

If you are at the horse park you must add this to your list to grab lunch or dinner. If you do, be sure to get there early as like most BBQ joints they will sell out. We got a smoked sausage plate (by mistake-supposed to be burnt ends) but it turned out ok as the sausage was good. Also got the pulled chicken as they were out of the smoked. They were also out of brisket. I enjoyed the meats and of course the delicious sides. If you like fried green tomatoes you must order them. Very good. Loved the vibe of the roadside BBQ. Plenty of seating inside and out. Parking lot can get crazy so be careful. The service was good. Staff very pleasant and polite wanting to make sure your needs are met. If you get a carry out order, double check it before you start driving. They messed ours up in the craziness of a Sunday dinner rush. Will definitely be back the next time we are at the horse park.

Two Meat Plate (brisket and chicken) Green Beans (GF) Mac 'n' Cheese

Throw a dart on the menu, and you'll choose something good. I got the pulled chicken and brisket + green beans and the mac 'n' cheese. I wish the mac had a touch more salt. Try all the sauces (the carolina mustard and apple bourbon were the best!). The staff were really nice, and the inside is great and fits the vibes of the place.

Brisket & beer cheese sandwich on a pretzel bun with Mac n cheese

Great menu. Super nice staff. The brisket & beer cheese sandwich on a pretzel bun is . Don't skip the pretzel bun. Trying their different bbq sauces is fun. I love the SC Mustard and the Apple Bourbon sauces. The Mac n cheese is creamy and peppery - very good. The beer cheese grits is good, but maybe just a bit too rich for me. The corn pudding is a win. Totally worth the 20 min drive from our hotel! Definitely hometown BBQ joint kind of feel. We'll see you next time we're in town!

Lots of choices..

Finally dined at Red States BBQ. We will be back! Such a friendly eatery. Booths, tables ( nicely spaced ) and takeout. Quite a big menu with pork, chicken, brisket sandwiches or plates and lots of sides chives. If dining in... there are at least 8 bbq sauces available on your table. Ordering at the counter. Delivery for your counter pickup shortly thereafter. Decor... sign the walls or ceiling... a bit much but ... Big parking lot. Bus your own table. No loud music. Good food and happy bbq fans.

Awesome barbecue. Came out very fast. Great sauces and sides. Enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and double smoked brisket. Private parking lot. Gets popular at lunch time.

When researching the Lexington area, Red State BBQ was listed as THE best bbq spot to try! The inside has been written over top to bottom. This felt like locals spot off the beaten path to downtown. The menu board offers a wide variety of smoked meats, sides, and sauces. They mentioned they were known for their brisket which did not disappoint! The mac n cheese and baked beans were the highlights for sides. Food was ordered and out in about 5 minutes. I HIGHLY recommend making a stop to try this local bbq spot. You won't be disappointed!

We have been to Lexington three times and every time we have to hit Red State BBQ. This place gets busy but the service is pretty quick and the staff are friendly. During our visits, we have tried the brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, jalapeño sausage, smoked wings, beer cheese grits, fries, corn muffins, fried green tomatoes, and Mac 'n cheese. First of all, let me tell you the portions are huge! The pulled pork and pulled chicken have always been delicious. The brisket is hit or miss, sometimes it's nice and juicy and other times it's a little dry. The jalapeño sausage is consistently good. We have had the fried green tomatoes twice, the first time they were delicious but the second time they weren't as good. The beer cheese grits, fries, and corn muffins are always good. The meat plates come without sauce which allows you to add whatever kind of sauce you want. They offer about six different kinds of BBQ sauce for you to choose from. While the brisket is hit and miss, Red State BBQ has enough great food to keep us coming back.

Good ribs fall off the bone. Dry rub ribs moist. I like because not covered in sauce. And so many bbq sauces to choose from.

Some of the best bbq I've had by far. The selection of sauces is a huge bonus. I'd definitely eat there again the next time I'm in the area.

Although we parked on a side street initially, we saw that there was a separate parking lot right next to the place that had plenty of spaces open. The staff here was super welcoming, not rushing us to order as they cut the brisket right in front of us for other customers. We both got the Brisket Sandwich combo which came with a side (we got potato salad and mac n cheese) which the staff member asked about what type of cut we wanted (fatty, lean, mix of both). We both got a mix. There is not too many seats inside so all the tables were full that day, but there is seating outside. The staff member was willing to use the table where they keep the utensils and sauces for everyone so we could eat inside (it was a bit chilly that day) but I didn't mind sitting outside. Although it was cold outside, I honestly did not care after taking a bite of the sandwich. Juicy and melting in my mouth, I have to say this is some of the best brisket I've ever had! I highly recommend pairing it with their BBQ sauce which really pulled it all together. Their potato salad was okay, as I prefer a more pickley potato salad, but their mac n cheese was delicious. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Lexington and looking for a quick, delicious BBQ meal!

The bartenders wasted no time welcoming me. I placed my drink and food order. The bison burger and tots is what I went with. My food was hot & fresh. I do wish I had ordered my burger medium or even medium well...... the well done burger made it lack flavor. I love how fresh the lettuce and tomatoes were!!! The tots were slightly too overcooked for me but as you can see they gave me a ton of them! I didn't eat them all. The prices here are very reasonable so that's a PLUS. I didn't stay long after I finished my food so I didn't get a chance to really explore the space. I do plan to return here at some point!

Spam was a little salty (duh, that's to be expected) but well fried. The fried sunny side up egg was amazeballs too, so rich and runny. This delicious smorgasbord was only 9 dollars! My colleague had the juicer, which is mahi mahi with cabbage slaw and spicy mayo. He also got the Hawaiian style fries. Topped with spicy mayo, sweet soy, house chili sauce, green onion, and sesame seed, this is an extravagant dish! He enjoyed it. My other colleague got spam musubi is spam and sweet soy on sticky rice, wrapped in seaweed. He says it's his favorite dish from there. Our friendly waiter kept things moving. It was happy hour (3-6pm) so we got drinks at a reduced price. The menu had so many tempting choices it was difficult to choose. On a Sunday night, there was a wait, but we were able to snag two seats at the bar. The bartenders were great--I wish I remembered their names! They made some excellent food and drink recommendations and were very attentive. We started with a Caesar salad to share, which isn't pictured, and then ordered two pasta dishes that we absolutely devoured. Everything was delicious! The following day, we discovered that many restaurants are closed on Mondays, so we ended up at Carson's again. This time, we decided to check out the back porch. We were expecting a similar menu, but the back porch seemed to focus more on meat and fish options, while we were looking for sandwiches. So, we relocated to the main dining area at Carson's without a reservation. Thankfully, the hostess was able to seat us but let us know that we would need to be finished dining by 7 p.m., which wasn't a problem for us. Our server was great, and we started with the goat cheese appetizer, which was absolutely incredible! Unfortunately, my Buffalo chicken sandwich was drenched in Buffalo sauce to the point that I couldn't really enjoy it. My spouse and I also decided to share sides of the mac and cheese and smoked Gouda broccoli. I was pretty disappointed with both because they were heavily covered in truffle, which I personally don't like. Because of that, I wasn't able to enjoy my second meal here as much as I had hoped. Nonetheless, I would still recommend checking out Carson's. There are plenty of menu options, and our first experience was fantastic. Based on my two visits, though, I would strongly recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine here!
