    Live music

We had a blast here both nights we were in town. The front has live music during the evening and then late at night turns into a dance floor with a dj. The back room always has a dj and lots of dancing. The drinks are cheap and strong. The vibe is always fun. During the summer it looks like they do live bands outside as well. I would go back here whenever I want to dance and/ or watch live music!

We had a lovely night out at this place. Nikko was our server and he literally made our night! Great place for drinks, no food is served here. They have live music and djs on weekends. Would go again if I was in the area.

I have spent more time there than I would like to admit, but it is a great space, and the vibes are so good when it gets super busy.

So let me begin by saying that I went to the art show/local performance this past Thursday and had…read morea GREAT time. Both performers were really good, and the vibe was nice. The beer on tap was decent as well. However, when I went THE NEXT NIGHT (Friday/yesterday) I showed up with my friend and got carded by a teeny bopper security guard named Kevin. He took my ID inside to "further examine", and came back with his minion Steve in tow saying I had to leave because it was a fake and if I didn't like it then call the police. OBVIOUSLY MY ID LOOKS DIFFERENT BECAUSE I AM FROM MISSISSIPPI. So I understand the hesitation - However, BURLINGTON IS A SANCTUARY CITY. YOURE GOING TO IDS FROM PLACES WAAYYYY FARTHER AND THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH WAY MORE THAN MINE. As migrants, we should not be subjected to the humiliation of standing in front of the club with police in full garb because you don't know how to look at IDs from places other than Vermont. At any rate, I digress. I proceeded to call the non emergency line for the police to validate my very real ID. They validated it via phone, so the bouncers handed my ID back but said I still wasn't welcome to come inside. I asked the police to come in person. While waiting for his arrival 7 different people passed with nothing more than a fist bump. The police finally arrived, and said that he was "too busy" to run my ID and even if it's valid they didn't have to let me in. After visiting a more worthy bar, my friend and I attempted to go back to Metronome to give it another try. This time, Xavier very rudely told us, "You already tried earlier. Leave." I spoke with Officer Ross who was standing in front of Metronome while on patrol. He agreed to call in and validate my ID. Once he did, he walked in and told Kevin, Steve, and Xavier that it is indeed real. I WAS STILL DENIED ENTRY. The police reiterated that they cannot force them to let me in. At this point, it was no longer about entry (the place has 25 people on a good night). It was ALL about the principle. I felt that this act was discriminatory, so I asked for the reasons my ID was singled out. The bouncers mumbled half responses about the fact that it was issued in 2015 and had a peeling layer. KEEP IN MIND: IT'S AN ID THAT EXPIRES EVERY FOUR YEARS. IF IT WAS ISSUED IN AUGUST OF 2015, IT WOULD EXPIRE IN AUGUST OF 2019. A four year old ID will not look brand new. In the end, the Sargent from the PD came. He was extremely respectful and heard my point. Ultimately, I don't really care that I couldn't enter this sorry excuse for a club. The real issue is that I didn't want anyone else who moved to Vermont seeking asylum from WHATEVER to be subjected to the same treatment. It's unacceptable. Ultimately, if you're going to scrutinize that hard then you should have UV lights and scanners or other unbiased methods to check identification. Having some bouncer who isn't even old enough to drink judging IDs off of his (lack of) worldly knowledge is not going to cut it in 2019 or beyond. Most people would say, "I'm never going back." But I'm saying quite the contrary. I'm showing up every single week with the same ID until it expires. If you'd like to play that game every Friday Metronome, we can. If not, I look forward to enjoying my time with the rest of the Vermonters, and especially the migrants. Think twice before acting on bias the next time.

Called me liars for having a ride on the phone before kicking me outside without my jacket at -25 wind chill, had to have a stranger off the street pay cover to go in and get my jacket. Had a great time at the Whiskey Den last night! I had been cautious to go in as the previous business in this location was sketchy. I was so pleasantly surprised! Kyle the bartender was friendly and patient (something that can be challenging for bartenders). Music was your typical small town Vermont bar, but mixed it up here and there. Don't get me wrong you will run into classic St. J characters.... But it is a big space so you can find your own corner. Got to speak with the owner Joanna and she was lovely! She is creating a space for everyone, and very strict on keeping out the riff Raff and is careful not to over serve to avoid problems and keep customers feeling safe. .....if you need a break past 9pm in St.J, I would give it a try!

I had vodka/club soda and the drink was fine. When I got there it was just me and another guy, one of the most charactery of characters, and some club type music and strobe lights playing for an empty room.... eventually some more people showed up but I think maybe toning down the "trying to be a club" vibe on a quiet Thursday night would be helpful... it just felt kind of silly.
