So the menu is all Vegan and heavily influenced by Asian cuisines. I ordered the Tom Yaam Noodle Soup. It was packed with straw mushrooms and plenty of other veggies. Delicious and very filling. Totally worth the $12. Better than my soup however, was the entree; "Lucky Rainbow Pockets". Sweet tofu bags stuffed with string veggies as well as a secret ingredient...corn flakes! An interesting mix of sweet, sour and *crunch*, they were very more-ish. Green dining means no smoking or alcohol so you wont find any booze here, nor can you expect to BYO. What else? The service is sweet and efficient. The decor is basic yet welcoming. The Loving Hut is also somewhere you could quite comfortably come for a quiet, solo dine-in.

It's great to have a 100% vegan option at the Queen Vic night markets, which for years have been very heavy on the meat. Not to mention, the food here is YUM. Right now they have 5 things on the menu, all vegan: - Middle Eastern Open Wrap - Japanese Udon Noodles - Yellow Lentil and Coconut Curry - Laksa Noodle Soup - Sesame Crusted Tofu I've had the Middle Eastern Open Wrap and the Laksa Noodle Soup. My friend had the Yellow Lentil and Coconut Curry. All very tasty. The Middle Eastern Open Wrap was my favourite -- it's probably one of the best falafel wraps I've had in a long time, and it seemed like a real step up from the junky kind you get at kebab shops. This one actually tasted somewhat "gourmet," if you know what I mean. Real thought was put into the flavours and the sauce, which was delicious. The laksa was OK -- a bit messy to eat if you can't find a seat and you have to stand around awkwardly holding the bowl in one hand and trying to navigate with your chopsticks/spoon in the other. (I'm bad with chopsticks anyway and nearly stabbed myself in the eye at one point.) This food stall is located next to the Sri Lankan food stall, away from the main row of food stalls, so you kinda have to hunt for it. It's further south than the main row of food stalls, if that makes sense -- kind of in the middle of the building, with more of the non-food stuff. On the plus side, that means the queue is much shorter than at other food stalls! Prices are right in line with every other food stall at the Queen Vic Night Market -- i.e., a couple of dollars overpriced, but you're paying for the atmosphere of the place. Really great food stall. I'll be back.

In addition to taking care of your insides, Feast of Merit is also a YGAP initiative, which means all profits are put back into youth and leadership projects locally and in third world communities. It's feel-good food with a feel-good outcome. The space is large and airy, the perfect place to unwind over breakfast, lunch or dinner. I came for breakfast, but it appears they've got a few beers on tap and a bar so I am keen to check out their evening offerings. For breakfast I was torn between their 'Yeusli' (Organic puffed quinoa, chia seeds, activated buckwheat, figs, goji berries, pomegranate seeds, coconut flakes, almonds, currents, raw cinnamon, your choice of milk on the side) and one of their incredible looking smoothies. I opted for the Yeusli and had no regrets. Delicious, super-charged with raw food goodness and a reasonably-sized, filling portion. No overload of oats and yoghurt like most cafe muesli offerings. Normally I don't give 5 stars if the coffee isn't amazing, but I loved the different food offering and concept enough to bump it back up. Coffee is totally fine but the black coffee is not amazing. If you're a latte drinker you probably won't notice at all and there's the bonus of being able to choose different milks if you're not into soy or lactose. The staff were friendly and accommodating, all menu items were well priced and can feed you for $15 or less. Winner.

The menu goes up a few days before and orders close on the Monday, for delivery on the Wednesday. Jacq comes and delivers it to your workplace and it looks like she's getting busier and busier, with this week's menu being sold out before I got a chance to order. She's definitely come up with a great idea for lunches with the focus on making healthy packages that she would want to eat. ie stuff from her 'nonno's garden'. Often I have to eat half for lunch and the other half a few hours later because they're so choc-ful. At $12 per salad it's an absolute bargain too, with the $20 lunchbox offering the best value. As well as the salad you get a seasonal juice and a healthy ball thing that's loaded with nuts and coconut and deliciousness.

Wanting a healthy dinner option for a catch up with a girlfriend, I thought we'd give new kid on the block, Transformer, a go. I'm not sure what I was expecting. Vegetables disguised as other things, faux meat...maybe hippies, mungbeans and incense? Having no real expectations meant I was really impressed with our experience. Upon entering, we were pleased to see a beautiful fit out, ambient lighting, and not a hippie in site. There was, however, lots of hipsters and it soon became apparent that we should have made a reservation! We luckily scored what was a cancelled table and proceeded to have a really lovely meal, with the perfect amount of friendly service. There's a decent wine list, beers and cocktails too. But for those not drinking (myself included on this particular occasion) there was an interesting selection of cold pressed juices and some little mini tonics (read: shots) loaded up with the likes of turmeric, ginger and coconut water. I liked having this before the meal as a way to get my appetite firing. We shared the pumpkin and tahini dip which is apparently the most popular thing on the menu. It comes with a slick of good quality olive oil and what I think is pomegranate molasses on top. Tangy, savoury and silky smooth it really was terrific. Next we had oyster mushrooms (tasty but not the biggest portion), a cucumber salad (fresh and creamy) and a sprouted brown rice beetroot risotto (delicious!). I can see more decadent, and boozy, nights being an expensive affair but we weren't super hungry and so these shared dishes only set us back around $30 a head! Bargain. I'll be back to try more of the interesting menu items.

One of our favorite food vacations is New Orleans. I will not doubt this chef again..they were delicious... comforting and flavorful. I would definitely get them again. I do wish the plantains were traditionally made though. The star for me was definitely the country fried lion's mane. Crispy, hearty, and so well-seasoned. I've wanted to try lion's mane for a while. This was the best place to try it. I'm not usually a big dessert person, but the chocolate brownie with biscotti-flavored ice cream had me claiming my fair share (my husband usually gets most of the dessert to himself!). The decor was modern but also cozy and inviting. It really made for a great night out. I don't know how we skipped over the bbq brisket. We will definitely be back to try it!

Besides having transformed a vegetarian-unfriendly cuisine, they've also managed to do it in a fairly prominent corner, and fill their tables (both the individual ones and the communal table I sat at and the bar) with a very typical-looking bunch of Australians. It is not what one expects of an all-plant restaurant; the mainstream, hipster-ness of it all was quite unique to Melbourne. Like most tapas places, you'll pay a lot of money for a little food and probably like it. I only tried the chickpea soup and some sort of soda, though people sitting next to me ordered all kinds of delicious-looking things that I could only ogle. The soup was appealing enough that I finished a large bowl rather quickly. I would struggle to pay up for it on a regular basis if I lived in Melbourne, but I certainly would want to come with a group and try everything. It seemed like this place was a success.

They are happy, for example, to adjust up or down the levels of mock meats (never my favorite thing, though I tried them here) among other ingredients. The service was quite thorough and efficient for a modestly priced place, and they had a delicious array of vegan desserts. The main drawback would be (predictably) a heavy reliance on soy products.
