Horrible service. We were told that they were changing shifts so the other waitress would help us when she came in. We waited at least 10 minutes & that same waitress graciously took our drink order. When she brought our drink she also took our food order. We read how great the burger & onion rings were so...we order burger, frings (basket of 1/2 fries & 1/2 onion rings) & a basket of mushrooms. The burger was so over cooked & the fried food was not worth the calories. We have been wanting to try this little place for so long...sadly it was extremely disappointing. read more

Mama, today I have become a man. I went to the Red Rooster, I played ping pong, and ate a rooster burger. Flow forth silken chest hair... Oh man, i grew up seeing this giant red rooster painted on the side of the small building that is the Red Rooster, reading the claim of the famous rooster burger. The place is a legend unto itself, at least in my mind. Finally, after more than 30 long years on this earth I visited the Red Rooster, and you know what, I think it was pretty alright. Like any self respecting bar they have beer, a decent selection, nothing too special, but at least it wasn't just Bud and Miller. They also have a free ping pong table that sometimes is in pieces on the floor and you have to set up yourself. The fried jalapeno poppers and onion rings are fine, good filler to mop up extra alcohol. And the fire pit on the back patio is kinda nice to chill out around. Just beware of putting your food basket too close unless you want your mushrooms extra well done. The bartender on the night we were there was really sweet too, Super Susan. She even gave us a free pitcher after Lobster V helped her replace a keg. AND the Rooster burger...Pretty good, and I really liked the roasted ortega chilies they put on top and they give you a nice array of condiments to top it off with (though i could have used some lettuce) It's a pretty hefty chunk of beef that they grill to order right behind the bar, I doubt most people would walk away from it wanting much more. I'd definitely make more pit stops here on my subsequent visits to O'side. read more

First off, I want to mention that I have grown up around roosters, so I really know what I'm talking about when it comes to food from places with "Rooster" in the name. Fact is... this is authentic an Rooster place. I knew I found a comfortable home when Tim Wilson's Booty Man welcomed me into the bar. Any place that truly understands the value of booty is A-OK in my book. Thankfully, as it came time to use the restroom facilities, I knew I could safely shove out my flatulence in peace as there was only room for one person. The bathroom is also surprisingly clean for a place that looks like it shouldn't be. But oh... the stories this bathroom must have. When I usually go to a bathroom in a proper dive bar, sometimes there will be toilet paper available. However, when there is, you will go out of your way to wipe yourself with something else. Dive Bar toilet paper is a combination of wood, pine cones, metal shavings, ass hairs and steel wool. Despite being rougher than sex with a dump truck, this paper is still somehow thinner than air, and you will promptly get shit finger even when using a basketball sized wad of it to wipe. And somehow by the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, this was not their toilet paper. But the real reason to come here, aside from toilet paper, is the Rooster Burger that is so famous Banksy came by and put graffiti on the side of the building calling it the home of the Rooster Burger. The Burger is large, but cam be comfortably held by one hand so you can use the other one to choke down the Schooner goblet of beer you ordered along with it. (You did order a beer, right? No? Get out of my country.) So... get a burger, beer, and leave your AMEX at home (Cash Only) and visit this place, play some pool, or ping pong. You can sit by a firepit and not spend the night in fear of having to go to the bathroom. For a dive bar... it's pretty ok. read more

Since I moved to Phoenix one thing I do find myself missing are Rooster Burgers. Especially the friendliness of the owner and staff, especially Pebbles and Susan. When I first went into the RR about 5 years ago I was a little wary, but I was welcomed by the first rate service and the amazing food because of "Pebs". Pebbles would have another pint for me as I was finished and I never had to ask her for anything and I've since become a regular whenever I am in town. I am taking a trip to San Diego soon and I'll be making a stop at the RR and to rekindle a little bit of Oceanside's finest burgers and affordable drink specials. ACCEPTING CASH ONLY: Love this place most of the time. Yesterday was an exception... called ahead of time to ask if there were any changes that have been put in place since the pandemic. I let the person who answered the phone know - We're coming down to have a burger & beer what is your business process now. How busy is it, - not to busy right now, seating outside, and a few chairs by the front door and seating outside, asked if under a tent and was told yes. So packed up the family and took a drive, upon arriving was hit with cigarette smoke at one of the tables, low and behold it was actually the cook (Red Flag for us) but we love the burgers so - went to place the order and to our SURPRISE cash only - maybe we missed this and there could have been signs posted and they do have an ATM machine available but unfortunately as a standard we don't use our Debit card and the one time we were going to break down and use it - the card carried had just expired ...... Needless to say, in an effort to support local business and eat out for a change backfired in so many ways. read more

Man, I thought Lisa was going to burn the patty!!! My girl and I came here to try this famous burger. We just came from a Charger's game and there was no way I was paying $20 for a damm hot dog at the stadium! So we ordered a nice tall stout and a beer. I watched her throw the patty on the grill. Then she left to tend to other customers. All the while I was looking at this burger and thinking "holy shit, this is going to a be a toasty ass burger". So I waited and waited. Lisa then came around to flip that burger, put some grill onion, ortega chill and a slice of cheese. There I sat anxious that all I'm going to taste was the char on the burger. Then it finally came. I topped my off with some sweet relish, mayo and ketchup then sliced it in half. To my surprise that patty was light pink in the middle! Damm this burger was amazing!!! Just amazing! It's just a walk away, and the burgers are really really good. Love the owner- remembers me every time. Fire pit outside is super cozy. Drinks cheap like upstate NY dive bar affordable. they have 50 cent pool!!! (small tables), but they also have ping pong!! really! Always end up meeting interesting people there. Never see any bad action going down. Night of Obama's election, went to celebrate, and a mini-van full of the staff were going to downtown Oside to celebrate- and invited me to come along. Best dive bar ever. Friendly service and the patio with the bonfire was the highlight of the visit. Didn't try the food, but the beer on tap was served in a nice frosty mug. Not a bad selection either. There was a pool table inside, and best of all they stayed open until 2am. Those hours are tough to find with that ever present cali last call. The food (for bar food) is a 5...! Service is a 1...! There's only 1 person working so getting waited on and getting your food takes forever. I feel for the person working as they have to pour drinks, take orders, cook, clean up etc etc. We left w/o food as service was taking way too long. Our previous times service was slow too (only because there's one person working) but luckily the place was not as busy then as it was today. read more

This is my favorite dive bar on the planet! My buddy and I are regulars and love this place. The beer is cheap, great specials every day, good food, and the staff is the best. The owner Sarah is there almost everyday and she treats us like family. They also have ping pong that is free and the firepit in the back is a great place to hang out and people watch. We came here because someone said it was the best place to go for an amazing burger. The rooster burger was good, not great. Maybe if it was a bit cheaper it would be better, but it's the same price you would pay at a chain restaurant, and with less quality ingredients. They also don't bother to use gloves while cooking.
