We spent the night in our trailer at the Cactus Inn next door. The restaurant was recommended, and there is little else in the area. It was a relaxing stop after a long day of driving and provided a bit of Texas culture for the one night we would be in the state. There cute decor and an actual singing cowboy provided the ambience, and we enjoyed Texas sized servings of ribeye and chicken fingers. The steak was perfect and the chicken fingers raised the bar on what they really should be. They were Gigantic, juicy, crunchy, and served with gravy. I enjoyed the beans I ordered, but wished for mashed potatoes instead, ha ha! The service was quick, professional, and friendly. This place is a real gem for I-40 travelers. read more

Lunch was very good. We arrived for a late lunch so staff were not busy which enabled prompt service. Hubby had a burger and fries. He said it was all great. I had a senior portion hamburger steak with sautéed mushrooms and sweet potato fries. We received a mini bread loaf to enjoy while we waited which was very tasty. My hamburger steak was very good quality beef, mushrooms were very good, and sweet potato fries were nicely done. Right off of I-40, if you're coming from the east and are thinking about the Big Texan, just eat here instead. 12 oz prime rib on Saturday night is excellent, the baked potato is perfect and the corn on the cob was great. Markeisha my server took great care of me, tea glass stayed full and she checked back several times. Had peach cobbler for dessert, and it was perfect too. Service is always a 5 star. Been going for years. Wish they served America catfish and not swai but everything is great. They can char a steak outside and have it warm and rare inside. First time came here for lunch and it was great. Dinner time 6:45 sat down . Waitress acknowledged us at 7:11. Ordered at 7:15. 7:29 room temp steak dinner arrived . She didnt write our order down. We didnt get our zucchini strips. No drink refills. 7:47 still thirsty! I ask the busgirl for a refill and she said not to tell anyone because she isnt supposed too. 7:55 got our bill. I am updating my review of many years ago. I was in McLean last week with family and we dined here. First of all, the service was superb. Sally was our waitress. She was fantastic. The best. She watched our table and made sure our drinks were full and yet she wasn't intrusive. I could see her I over there watching our table and she made sure we were happy. If I owned a competing restaurant, I would try to hire her. She was that good! Now, the food. I had the ribeye special. It came with about 7 pounds of mushrooms and onions on top. That's great, except I hate mushrooms. But, the steak! OMG it was good. It was cooked perfectly, and maybe those mushrooms added some good flavor. Anyway, I would order it again for sure, but I will never eat a mushroom. But it was a great steak, and that suits me just fine! Everyone else in our party loved their food and the service. Wow, where do I begin? Was on a road trip from OK to CA and all I wanted was a good steak dinner. Saw the Red River figured I was in for a treat. Walked in and immediately felt comfortable. Nice place, Sarah sat us at out table and told is about the specials. I had the larger ribeye and my friend had the fried catfish. The salads were terrific and the steak was excellent. A great hidden gem! I will start by saying we came across this restaurant as we were traveling across the state. We love fried zucchini and Red River's were delicious. They also have a delicious ranch dressing to dip them into. Their bread was not worth the calories and we like real butter, not available there. Bread is not what you come to enjoy at this restaurant, it is the steaks! Their steaks do not disappoint! They were tender and flavorful! YUM! We look forward to stopping in on our way back home. Service staff was friendly and on top of things however my rib eye was ordered medium and it came out overdone and tough as heck to chew. Waitress apologized and the cooks worked hard to get another out. It was cooked properly but these steaks out here in Texas, seem like they work too hard, as they are orett I asked for real butter instead of vegetable oil spread and they don't have any! At these prices and in Texas, real butter should be offered . The hostess was friendly and seated me quickly. This is is a gem of a restaurant. It is a bit off the path of the main highway but only a few minutes. It is well worth a stop for a juicy steak. I ordered the 12 oz. NY strip medium well and it was amazing. They age their steaks and cook to your taste. Their green chilly stew is delicious with just the right amount of spices. OK, so I'm staying over the night in McLean Texas at the C actus Inn, which is a motel and "Harvest Host" participant for motor homes. Red River steakhouse is next-door and was recommended to me by Angela. The proprietress. The atmosphere is down home country, the bathrooms were nice, the wait staff was cheerful, accommodating, and informative. I ordered a steak salad, which was as good as I've had in any city. Driving on the I-40 East towards Oklahoma City, we passed through just a sliver of the great state of Texas (just the top part). I really wanted to try a steakhouse if possible and to my surprise I was able to find Red River Steakhouse just barely off the highway in the small town of McLean. I got the hand cut 10 oz rib eye steak while my dad got the 16 oz option, both cooked medium. For sides I got the mashed potatoes and the corn on the cob while my dad got a side salad and french fries. The mashed potatoes was definitely a miss, I'm pretty sure she gave me the loaded potatoes side instead but I just let it slide. The side salad wasn't too great either but we didn't have too high of expectations for it. The corn and the french fries were both good, the corn was lightly dressed with butter and the fries were definitely fresh. We'd recommend giving them both a try! The steaks were fantastic, and definitely satisfied the inner Texas BBQ cravings for us. My 10 oz was a bit more cooked past the requested medium but the 16 oz was perfect and both tasted great. The reason for the four star review instead of a five is because our server was rude and didn't seem to care at all about her performance. I understand that most of the people that visit already know what they want to order but she seemed very impatient and short mouthed with our questions although the place was pretty much empty when we arrived. Nevertheless, as we ate our meal, the place started filling up and it was obvious that the place is enjoyed by the community as the diners were all locals and friends with one another. The steakhouse not only provided a great meal but gave a glimpse into life of the small community out here. We stopped by for dinner on our drive from California. We were looking for something along the I-40 that doesn't require driving way too much off of the highway but also not a fast food or chain restaurant. This steakhouse was the only thing we saw and while seeing many negative reviews on Yelp we decided to try it! My fiancé got the Saturday Special which was a 14oz Smoked Prime Rib with a loaded potato and he said it was one of the BEST he's ever tried. I got a grilled chicken salad which was absolutely delicious. We got free bread and butter and a big tray of saltines. They also had a band playing live music which added a great touch! Overall we were very impressed with the service, food, and ambience and felt like we had a true Texan BBQ/Steakhouse experience. We would visit again if we ever pass McLean again! read more

We had ribs (me) and the small sirloin (my daughter- and it was excellent. She's a lifelong (since age 5) vegetarian, just graduated from college and decided to try meat on this trip across the country back to NM and CA- and it could not have been a better place to give it a shot. We both loved our meals, had way more than we could eat with generous helpings and free cobbler, and the best part may have been the excellent service. Endless refills of tea and soda. Had to stop to get a Route 66 steak while I was in the great state of Texas! It was a quaint little place that had decent food. I had the 16oz Ribeye steak dinner with green beans and a side salad with Blue Cheese dressing ( I'm from NY.... Blue Cheese is a thing). The food was good but nothing to write home about. The steak had no seasoning on it whatsoever.... not sure if this a TX purist kinda thing or not...I'm a guy who likes a least a little salt and pepper on my steak. We visited the steakhouse for dinner. The place was decorated well for a steakhouse - a rustic vibe. We ordered the special of the day, which was a ribeye with sides. The salad was tasty and had a lot of fresh vegetables. They also served warm bread and butter was was a nice touch. I ordered my steak medium and it can more medium rare. The meat was good but the caramelized onion/mushroom topping was not caramelized at all. It was more raw onion and raw mushroom. The green beans were typical. Stopped here because I needed a bathroom break on the way to Oklahoma City from Amarillo and it turned to a lunch break as well. Didn't take long at all to get seated as we were one of two parties in the restaurant. Little town in the middle of nowhere so I wasn't surprised and server says they get a lot of their business from tourists passing through. Bread comes out before the meal and a lot of the entrees come with a soup or salad. Obviously, they are most well known for steaks, but have other options as well such as fish and chicken. The steak was pretty standard, nothing fancy and honestly a bit small for what I thought I ordered, but didn't leave me sleepy afterwards which is good. I will say the complimentary cobbler that comes with entrees (when available) was incredible! The food overall was pretty average, but the building was so cool and the interior really gave off the old western vibe. Our server Sally was really kind and was answering all of my questions with help of the kitchen. She carried on good conversation and really helped better the experience.
