Salad was good, but had a large amount of dressing pooled on bottom of bowl. When I told the waitress about the bad french fries she responded "i'll let them know" and returned with a to go box and my check. No attempt to make me happier whatsoever. When I went to pay the check, the "manager" on duty was there. I told her that my food was nasty and she immediately turned around and swiped my card and processed it before continuing the conversation. She also made no attempt to do ANYTHING at all except she said "did you ask for more fried" to which I said I told her they were terrible and she did nothing but bring my check. Terrible customer service.... I called them and I asked for manager and it was same girl at front checkout. I then asked for her boss and she said he had left even though I saw him right before I left. He had walked around and asked how our food was, but it has just been put on table and not even tasted yet so I said nothing. I asked her to have him call me as soon as possible and left my name and number. I haven't received any call. ( have now received a call back and he seemed to want to know what happened. He said dinner is on them next time to which I responded I won't be back but if I do I'll let you know I'm there.) I wanted to put this post up to warn others. This place seems to be a bit scary. I know this is a small town, but if you have a problem and I tell you DO SOMETHING don't ignore me or patronize me.

That said, if you do have to wait, this is probably one of the better places to do it because there is SO much randomness to explore. Between the gift shop, Western décor, photo ops, and everything else going on, you could easily entertain yourself for an hour. We changed plans and made a reservation for 9 AM the next morning instead, and I'm actually really glad we did! On a Thursday morning it was quiet and relaxed, and we basically had our pick of all the goofy photo opportunities without fighting the dinner crowds. We shared the steak and eggs, and it was a perfect breakfast for two. The steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked really well. The entire place is exactly what you hope for from an over-the-top Texas Route 66 roadside stop: rustic, quirky, cow prints everywhere, a big gift shop, and lots to look at. We also discovered a whole crew of cats hanging around outside near the patio in the morning, which was an unexpected and entertaining bonus. One disappointment for us as Route 66 souvenir collectors: they have TWO penny press machines, but unfortunately BOTH were out of order when we visited. We were so sad! Overall, going at 9 AM turned out to be a great move. You still get the full Big Texan experience, but with way fewer people and plenty of time for pictures. Definitely one of those classic, quirky Route 66 stops you have to experience at least once!

It's okay, but not special like the loaves used to be. That change brings one star and might be enough to discourage me from choosing Dalhart as our "layover" point. I had the cowboy sirloin. It had good flavor and was cooked perfectly, but it was as tough and chewy as a leather boot. These items can be fixed. The margins might not be be as high ot the price might need to go up. Your choice, but you just dropped below a great little BBQ spot - and this meal was not worthy of spending the night for and especially not planning a night in Dalhart. That means the place we stay loses, where we buy fuel loses. Where we normally have breakfast loses. Here's an error in many businesses. They gorget to consider fixed costs when trying to raise margins. I know overall margins are small, but margins on food are usually 69% plus. Think about your customer count and see if the changes you've implemented are a feel good improvement or an actual overall improvement. As you do your calculations, include what it costs to retain business because lower quality doesn't really pay off unless you're running a fast food restaurant.

While visiting Borger (following our granddaughters Hesston College softball team) we were looking for a place for dinner. Luckily we found this hidden jewel. The food was some of the best we've had in a very long time. Our waitress was outstanding and a joy to visit with. The only downside was that it's not located closer to us. A 5 hour drive is a little long to get great food, but be assured if we come here again it is a must stop. read more
