Came in late. 30 min until closing. The staff was super friendly. I tried the chicken fried steak. Wow!! The best cfs I have had in a VERY long time. I loved my chicken fried smoked brisket stuffed Chile Rellano covered in a choice of four different sauces. The brisket was smoky and chopped fine. I tried green and red said sauces. Both were flavorful, but I liked green with the brisket . Hubs had the spicy ground beef filled blue corn tortilla enchiladas with the Queso sauce. His enchiladas were spicy and yummy. Make a special trip if necessary to try this delicious restaurant. Im getting the chicken fried Ribeye steak next time! The creamy, scrumptious bread pudding dessert was a great ending (and complimentary to boot) was one of the best meals had in a long time! Best place to stop in Canadian Texas Area! It's a really cool old hotel lobby and the food is outstanding. Steak and Steak medallions are wonderful. This was our second visit. We were disappointed the first time, especially for the prices, so decided to give it another try. I got a brisket sandwich, which was ok - the brisket was dry but tender. The bbq sauce had a weird taste, not good Texas bbq sauce. The potato salad had a strange, unidentifiable spice mix with a large chunk of an almost raw potato. My husband's cheeseburger was good, but he didn't like the limp fries. We expected better for a $35 lunch. Probably won't be back. read more

Smoked sausage was not edible, it had a rough-weird texture, maybe over cooked? I was able to choke down 3 slices, but couldn't do it. Luckily I ordered brisket sandwich, wish was good, but the "bbq" sauce that came with was very weird, and did not use any of that. Would have been better if there was some original style bbq sauce for the brisket. Loaded baked potatoes were on point, very large, and full. The Cattle Exchange.. I've been patronizing this restaurant since 2003, and what a great restaurant it used to be. You read that right, used to be.. Over the last year the owners have made changes to the menu, prices, and to the quality of food served. The quality went down, and the prices went up. The steaks aren't worth the money, and neither is the rest of the menu at this point when comparing cost to quality. To end on a positive note, the wait staff is awesome and always has been since first eating there in 2003. I miss the old Cattle Exchange! read more

Some of the dishes I've eaten here are the pecan wood-grilled ribeye, BBQ brisket egg rolls, pork chops, blue corn cheese enchiladas, green salad (I recommend their house-made blue cheese dressing), loaded baked potato, and bread pudding. You just can't go wrong here; they have always served me food of extremely high quality, expertly prepared, and the waitstaff serving me have always been friendly and professional. Starting with walking in the door, it was longer than usual to be greeted and seated. There is a hostess desk up front, but it was unmanned. After being seated, my drink order was taken and delivered quickly. I ordered my meal shortly thereafter and my salad and rolls came out soon after. The salad was old and the lettuce limp. The rolls were barely even warm and look like they came from the freezer section of the supermarket. I had the steak medallions as my entree and it was just ok. First of all, the biggest problem is with the "chicken fried ribeye steak", is not what it says to be. Gives you not even a full real ribeye steak, more to be a thin piece of chicken fried steak with BREADED fries. Having went with that alone (no delicious steakhouse sides) gives a outrageous,stupidly-over priced meal, for that you could just buy better steakhouse meal for probably cheaper than just a cheap steak sprinkled with some type of fried chicken and cardboard like fries. What a cool little place! Walk in, order from an amazing menu of mexican, bbq, spuds and salads. Then a waitress comes to deliver your food. It was kinda weird but hey it worked. The decor is really cool, by the bathrooms there is an old phone booth and pictures of the town from 1920's. They actually have advertisements from local businesses painted on the columns and it looks cute, surprisingly. The food came out and mine was really good. HUGE portions, it seemed a little pricey I realized it was because of the portions, you could eat on the leftovers for a couple of days. The fries were AMAZING and a good salad. My coworker enjoyed a steak and potato. My only reason not to give this 5 stars was I got the pork tenderloin and I'm not sure if I was expecting something else but it was pretty dry, the BBQ didn't help. I had the special of the day Chicken and Dumplings. It was good. The bread they served with the meal was as beautiful as it was delicious. They served me bread pudding included with my lunch. I'm disappointed, and I didn't even get to eat here. We came here during fall festival weekend knowing it would be busy. I've been wanting to come here for several years. We were told there would be a 40 minute wait and not to leave because it slows down service. Nearly 2 hours later, we hadn't been sat. Yes, we had a party of 7 people but even at that time they were just telling us they were doing the best they could and they couldn't estimate how long it would take. During that 2 hours, we could have been enjoying the festival. At the time we decided to walk away because everyone in our group (especially me and the 3 kids) were hangry, we had missed out on the lunch at the elementary school and several of the fun festival activities. So many groups were sat before us. I know they were smaller parties, but at some point you can pull two tables together or seat us at different tables. I witnessed a huge group getting sat that showed up after us. The hostess said they didn't but that was a lie.
