Rainy day! The carhops earned their keep today for sure. Despite the weather, it was quite busy. We got the pork bbq sandwich, double cheeseburger, fries, and slaw. All was exactly as we had hoped. Very good. Would definitely repeat if I lived here. Be aware if you are on the road needing to turn left you will need to continue over the bridge across the river (Halifax exit) and return. We've driven by the Red Rabbit on our way to Penn State for the past 4 years, but they've either been closed, or we've been on the wrong side of the road driving home in the opposite direction. Red Rabbit Drive In comes up quickly on your right side so be prepared, but as soon as we pulled in, a server came right over to our car to take our order. We had already looked at the menu on line and knew we would order a Bunny Burger, which they cut for us, and a pork bbq sandwich (also cut for us so we could share). The burger has its own special sauce and that, along with the pickle and onion, made it delicious. We also loved the pork bbq sandwich which was topped with a sweeter pickled relish. Yum! I especially enjoyed their milkshakes which are made with real ice cream and are thick and creamy. The black and white was perfect, but we also tried their peanut butter chocolate. Divine! They then put a number on your car, and when the food is ready, bring it over to your vehicle on a tray which attaches to your window. We were so excited, and everything was delicious. Keep in mine, they're cash only and when you're finished, they ask you to turn on your hazards and will come back and pick up your tray and trash. FYI, the bathrooms were very clean. I have heard about this place for years and finally made it up in that direction during open hours and it did not disappoint! This place is nostalgia turned up to 11. We ordered burgers, hot dogs, fries. I specifically had a chili dog and ordered a cup.of cheese sauce for my fries. The food was so much better than O expected, with small touches, like toasted buns, that made it excellent. My burger was cooked perfectly, still juicy and delicious. I love the bunny dust but was surprised to find that it's essentially a blend of salt and pepper. I want to go back and try more of the menu. read more

On the way to Penn State, I saw this place off to my right and it looked pretty cool. I had my Brother text me the name of it while I was driving and then looked it up later during the game. We decided to come here for dinner on the way home from the game. It's an old school drive in. You pull up, put on your hazard lights and a waitress comes out to your car to take your order. I went with a Double Bunny Burger, split an order of fries with my Brother, and I got a large raspberry shake. My Brother got the pork bbq sandwich and a chocolate shake. The waitress gets your food and delivers it to you on a tray you hang on your partially rolled down window. Old school cool! How was the food? It was pretty good. The burger was a tad messy, but was tasty enough. 2 patties on a sesame seed bun with lettuce, tomato, bacon and special sauce. Kind of a smaller burger, but it was ok. My Brother liked his pork sandwich. Fries were really good! Dusted in their own seasoning, crispy and tasty. The shakes were bomb! My raspberry shake was perfect! Definitely a cool spot to stop at on the way to/from Penn State. They don't have many old school drive ins left, so stop while you can. The waitress that came to our car was incredibly sweet! I'm a kid again on a warm summer day, crammed with my sister in the back of Mom's 1986 IROC Z-28, the T top is open and we're listening to the faint sound of 1950s music while slurping down birch beer and shoveling "bunny fries" into out mouths. The bunny burgers are fresh, hot, and messy, and we have to be careful to not mess up the Camaro. 35+ years later, I'm still coming back and I still love it. The poppy seed rolls of the past (mentioned in my prior review) are entirely gone now, to my great sadness, and the French fries are skinnier/harder but for the most part, this place is frozen in time and in my nostalgic mind. First off, are you willing to die for a great burger? I would typically say "NO" but everytime I head east on SR 322 I realize I'm taking a huge risk to stop at the Rabbit. Access is horrendous and the place is always busy. That said, I stop at this place everytime I pass by because it is that much of a treat! It's a drive-in. You pull up and the waiter/waitress come up and take your order. They deliver the order to your car using the window tray system. Check their hours and days of operation, they're seasonal, and make sure you have cash! I always order the "Bunny Burger" that's made with beef (it's confusing). I typically get 2 single patty 1/4 lb bunny burgers, with their special sauce?, on a sesame seed bun. I do not like their upcharged poppy seed roll (hard/stale). This is possibly the greatest combination of size, roll, toppings, sauce, etc. in the burger world. If I were to do a burger challenge it would have to be here because I could polish off a full tray, with the right incentive. Other than the milkshake and fries, which are just OK, I honestly don't know what else they offer and don't care to find out. read more

My wife and I are huge fans of still active vintage and retro locations so this was right up our alley. It looked kept up and maintained well. Be warned, you will wait at least 30-60 minutes for your food on the weekend. It is certainly worth the wait! The food is exactly what you'd expect from an old school drive-in with a pretty extensive menu. My wife, and daughter and I each got something different and we were all happy with our choices. However, if you want the authentic "bunny" experience you need three things. 1. A bunny burger. A 1/4 lb patty that, in combination with the other toppings, makes for a super tasty version of a Big Mac with added bacon. If you are super hungry you can get the double. The single is $5.10 per their website as I write this. 2. An order of French fries with bunny dust. I don't know what goes into bunny dust. It reminds me a little of the stuff Red Robin puts on their fries (I guess they call that bird dust). 3. A drink. The traditionalists stick with milk shakes, fountain drinks, or floats. Bring cash. We sat at the tables and were forgotten about and several cars got their orders before we even were able to order. Over all the burger wasn't bad. A must stop spot when coming through the area. This no fuss place is a staple and definitely worth the wait for the best chili dog I've ever had--period. It comes on a buttery toasted roll that melts in your mouth. I always get one and wish I had gotten more, but refrain because I'm sure it's a days worth of calories for that one. Although glutinous it's worth every single ounce of sweat to get it off. They are only open Friday-Sunday and close for a short time in the winter, but their "winter" isn't too long as it's mid-February and they are open.
