Had the swiss mushroom 1/2 pound burger cooked medium and liked it. Plenty of mushrooms and the condiments were twice the thickness of other burger shops. Service was good and friendly. Food has greatly declined lately. Ordered fried pickles and spinach pie to go. The container of pickles was half full and way too salty. The spinach pie was bitter and inedible. Recently I was at one of my go-to restaurants, Red Olive in Wixom. When I placed my order for a wrap and I specifically asked if it came with fries, the waitress said yes. When the bill came it had a separate charge for fries. I asked the waitress to correct it. She came back and the manager (owner?) said to give us the senior discount (we are both over 70) but not to remove the charge. I again complained and the manager came over and asked If I had read the menu. That's why I asked the waitress in the first place. Well they have lost my business. read more

This is one of my favorite Coney Island type restaurants in the area. My husband and I frequently eat here probably a couple times per month. We mostly get carry out. Love the big menu and lots of choices. All the food we have got has been delicious and reasonable prices compared to Leo's Coney Island. I will say that be sure to check your carry out order though - there have been many items we have been burned (no pita bread, missing sauces for salad just to name a few examples). This would not keep us from visiting again but something to be aware of. Highly recommended! read more

My fattoush from Red Olive consisted of crappy, soggy, wilted iceberg, sad tomatoes, a few tiny pieces of romaine, green pepper slices, onions, cucumber and pita swimming in dressing. It looked like it was 3 days old. It wasn't just the worst fattoush I've ever had, it was one of the worst salads I've ever had. Just got back (wixom location) and we had a wonderful dinner. We were greeted right away and he directed is to a nice size booth for our family of 4. The waiter was attentive and present when needed. The order came out in a timely manner and portions were a good size. We all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the gyro plate and it came with a soup or salad... got the yummy lemon rice soup and it was nice and hot. I was also able to sub the rice for a potato, so I got hash browns. They were done perfectly (I am picky...has to be crispy outside). Plenty of gyro meat (took some home) The tomatoes on top were fresh tasting not mushy. My Daughters quesadilla looked great, she enjoyed it and they remembered to omit the tomato. My Son's gyro was hearty and had plenty of meat and cheese. Husband had a great omelet with warm toast. One thing I wanted to point out was the background music, they played classic rock, and I loved it. I love music at a restaurant, it really adds to the meal, and it is such a simple thing to do. I used to go here often with my Dad, after radiation treatments at the local hospital down the street. They have a pretty large menu with a ton of choices. Their food is above average compared to a Coney Island style restaurant. Staff is usually pretty friendly and the environment is what you would find in most kid-friendly restaurants. Ordered "The Best" gyro and a greek salad, because you really can't go wrong with either of those right? Wrong. My gyro meat felt weird in my mouth, and I pulled it out to see white fuzz on the meat, and even more in the sandwich! Not sure what it was but honestly I don't want to know. Then the salad, had old pieces of lettuce. Honestly I wouldn't say I'm a picky guy when it comes to small restaurants like this, you know what to expect. I decided to just call it a day and wasn't in the mood to complain about the food to them so I just paid and left. My mother loves this Red Olive, and I'm not sure why. There food is pretty good for your average Coney Island (think Leo's) They have one big issue here and it's the same every time I go here. They never have enough ice in there water. I like a cold drink. They will deliver the water with ice and its alright, when they give you a refill, it's from a pitcher that they carry around, and the pitcher has no ice and the water feels luke warm. It's sad. Stopped in here Sunday late morning for breakfast. The place was busy, but the service was efficient and the food came out fairly quickly. Great service, especially considering the crowd. Many breakfast options, and all four of us enjoyed what we'd ordered. I see they have weekday breakfast specials that seem to be quite a deal. The only complaints were that another server cleaned off a table by brushing the scraps onto the floor / into the isle. Yuck. Also both the men's and women's restroom were out of paper towels. They need to install dual paper towel holders - one's not enough here. read more

I'm so confused. The first time I went in I had the lemon rice soup and fruit salad with chicken---salad greens, tomatoes, etc. but with strawberries, bananas, pineapple....DELICIOUS! I couldn't understand the bad reviews I read about Red Olive. It was so great, I went back and got a carry out Grilled Chicken Salad. The menu said it had beets, but there weren't any beets on my salad. There were 2 small wedges of mealy tomato. I couldn't believe it. Totally the opposite experience from my first meal there. If I'd eaten in the restaurant, I would've sent it back for sure. Next time I ordered chicken parmesan to go. That was good although awfully salty. Last night I went in and ordered the lemon rice soup again because it was so tasty the first time I had it. It was 8 pm, an hour before closing. The waitress brought it out and it was a congealed mass---think tapioca pudding. It was lukewarm--just a little hotter than room temperature. I sent it back and she said she'd heat it up. She brought it back a few minutes later and it was just as cold. She said that the "soup warmer" either wasn't on or wasn't on high enough. WTH? That's a food safety issue. Food needs to be either hot (above 140 degrees) or cold (below 40 degrees) or you're risking food-borne illness. I'm grateful I didn't get sick from the 2 tastes I had of this soup. How long was the soup warmer not on? Why wasn't the soup in the refrigerator if it wasn't going to be kept hot? They're lucky I didn't call the health department....although I still might. Ordered lake perch. Got 3 of the tiniest pieces for $12. Everything else was cooked in our with tomato sauce. Nor very clean as I found napkins on floor of where I was sat and spoon services with soup looked dirty. All soups had meat in them (was hoping for lentil) or vegetable. The waitress was very nice,but didn't understand concept of the herbal tea (which most people don't). It was just ok. I'm staying across Grand River at the Comfort Suites and wanted to walk to dinner and didn't want fast food. This place was clean and the service was good. However the Greek combination dinner (moussaka, gyro and Greek lasagna) was just ok. The sauce on the lasagna and the moussaka tasted like Chef Boyardee. All of it needed salt and pepper. The Crapes were very tuff and chewy. The first bite of every crape was warm and the rest were cold. Got my order wrong and offered no recourse. I ordered a Strawberry Chicken Avocado salad with no olives to be delivered via GrubHub. The order was filled fast, the driver was kind and courteous. When I went to eat the salad I found it was not what I ordered. It had Gouda cheese (not supposed to be in this salad, but comes with the Mango Chicken Avocado salad - but there were no Mangos). No strawberries or pecans as should have been included, and there were a few olives. It's like they mixed the two types of salad up, but got neither one correct. So when I called they said there is nothing they can do. I have to work it out with Grub Hub to have a new salad delivered...which now means I have to inconvenience the driver and tip him more since NONE of it was his fault. This is a terrible form of customer service. Very disappointing. I elected NOT to call Grub Hub since by the time it was corrected it would have exceeded my lunch time and also because I don't feel Grub Hub should have to fix the restaurants mistake. I would have taken a credit for a future order but that was not an option offered to me. read more
