This place has fantastic food! My wife and I came into the Athenian yesterday for lunch and had delicious meals! My club and Avgolemono were made with fresh ingredients and my wife's ultimate wrap was also magnificent! Beware! This place charges a sharing fee of $4.00 on anything you split or share. It's absolutely ridiculous how greedy and money hungry they are. They don't care if you are good or returning customers or not, it's all about money for them. Sometimes, but not often, we aren't super hungry and want a little bite. Wow has it been 11 years now that I have been coming to this place. I stop coming here during Covid. There have been a lot of changes since then especially with new staff and they close a little bit early. But still their breakfast is one of the best in selection that I have tried. I do recommend the burgers and the grill cheese. Look out for their selection of deserts they have a pretty good selection too. The vibes here among the owner and staff has shears been good. I don't usually leave reviews, but I am appalled by what happened during my recent visit. I ordered a small Greek salad and asked for extra ranch. The total bill ended up being $28 because they charged a $4 plate-sharing fee for my husband to eat just a couple of bites! On top of that, they added $1 for the dressing, which was a ridiculously small portion. I've never encountered such absurd policies. Charging for sharing a couple of bites is beyond unreasonable, and to make matters worse, when we brought this up with the manager, he said there was nothing he could do. No flexibility, no understanding, and no care for the customer whatsoever. This lack of consideration and complete disregard for customer satisfaction is outrageous. Do yourself a favor: avoid this place. It's an overpriced rip-off with no regard for its customers. Never again will I step foot in this establishment. read more

I'm giving this review with some reluctance. I have eaten at Athenian on several occasions at different times of the year. The atmosphere is always nice and clean, the staff is friendly and attentive. The food has always been good with nice portions. My complaint is on every visit I had to swat fruit flies away from my food! This situation has occurred at all different locations I have been seated at. on my last visit I spoke with the owner regarding the fruit flies. His response was not to sit near the pop machine. I assume because the fruit flies are attracted to the sugar content of the pop. He also showed me little devices placed in the restaurant to catch fruit flies. the method being used by the owner is definitely not working. Pest control should be the course of action! read more

This is listed as a coney island, but it is more elevated than the traditional cony island. The food is good and they serve nice portions. The menu is also vast. They have so many choices for breakfast. Their salads are huge. You will leave full. The atmosphere looks newer and modern. Service was good. The prices are average. read more

I am shocked by reading so many bad reviews of Athenian. I have eaten there many times over the years, and it has always been top notch - the food, service and general friendly atmosphere. I think their coney islands are the best you can get locally, and the breakfast ham and eggs are delicious and plentiful. I have not had any of the dinner entrees, so cannot comment on those. read more

So much more than a basic coney. Beautiful salads, wide range of pancake creations like pineapple upside down cake and cinnamon roll. Fast, friendly service, very clean with an upscale modern interior. Added to my lunch spot list when life takes me out to Novi. read more

Consistent quality food, fast and diligent service, and friendly atmosphere. I work a couple miles away and often pick up lunch from here. Always ready by the time I arrive. Whenever I ask for them to leave an ingredient off, they ask if I want to replace it with more of another - they care about the little things! Hope they're around for a long time to come! read more

The family and I visited Athenian sometime last week and I was very impressed. The place was about 70 percent full and they still had some social distancing guideline in place. We got seated in about 10 minutes and just in times as A line formed outside just as we were seated. The food arrived extremely fast, like 5 minutes after the waitress left, our salads arrived and about 3 minutes after that the food arrived, all of it. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was pretty good, fries were great, moist and crispy. My burger was really good but I could tell that if I ate it alone it was just a tad bit dry. I ordered it medium and it arrived well done. Although it was a bit dry, it was still pretty good as it had a good flavor and of course a sunny side up egg and corned beef on top is going to help your moisture problem. But I definitely enjoyed the food overall, and I will return to try out the breakfast menu and other items. read more

Our nostalgia of Detroit coney islands brought us in and the food did not disappoint. The portions are large and food is delicious. I got the gyro which was perfection! I especially like the tahini sauce. The Greek salad and lentil soup were good too. The service was top notch and they consistently checked in on our large party. Athenian is located in a busy shopping plaza with ample parking. Great lunch spot that is super budget friendly. Would come back here next trip for sure! read more

Very bad customer service. My family and I went to Athenian in Novi. We have gone here many times before and had great service and food top notch. We paid for our bill and my family member said leave a small tip on the bill and I will leave cash on the table. My family member realized he left his wallet in the car and we proceeded to the car and put our two small children in the car. As my family member was getting the money the owner comes running out screaming at us " are you serious only going to leave a 5$ tip for a 53$ meal. I was in shock because we have always talked to the owner over the years we have been going there. We had always gave 20% or more top. My family member held up the cash and said sir i was just collecting my cash to bring it back in. The owner continued to yell at my family member. So my family member said we will not be giving more money and we will not be coming back. This was all in front of 2 small kids who had talked and laughed with the owner. Not sure why he thought it was okay to do that when a tip is not mandatory. Our service was off that day and had to keep asking for things but we still were going to leave a tip. Tried few items from their menu, omelets, pancakes, eggs and French toast. The best part of all was the sourdough bread and the coffee, this one is really good. Lunch was much better than breakfast. I would recommend this Athenian Coney Island for a quick lunch. Not really the ideal brunch or dinner spot. The store is normally clean and looks upscale for a diner, but unfortunately this location has slowly been going downhill for a while in both quality and service. The skillets are not true skillets, just a bunch of ingredients tossed into a ceramic dish. The Belgium waffles are pretty good, but far overpriced. Breakfast for two will cost you $25 read more

We tried to dine at this establishment over the weekend at 3:00 on a Sunday where the restaurant was not busy & I was with my mother so there were two of us dining. We were going to split the super patty melt which was pretty pricey for a burger that comes without any sides & the Greek fries off of the appetizers on the menu (not sides) plus we were placing a carry out order for the spinach pie dinner & a quart of chicken lemon chicken rice soup for $11.99. We were told that we need to pay an extra $4.00 split plate charge because we were splitting a burger. I asked Ummm why because technically we are ordering 2 entrees 1 burger & 1 appetizer and we are ordering carry outs too. The waitress said she would ask but she is pretty sure we would have to pay it. She came back & she said, Sorry my manager said I have to still charge you the $4.00. I said ok nevermind the order we are leaving but can I speak to your manager. I explained my concern to the manager that I could understand if that was all we were ordering was one entree (even then the $4.00 is a steep plate charge) but we are ordering over $50 worth of food. The manager said well with all the cost of food rising now and the prices of carry out containers that have to pass it along to the customer and she was unable to waive the plate fee. I ordered a glass of water and a cup of hot water with my meal. Meal was just so-so. I brought my own herbal tea bag. Got the bill and there was $1.00 additional charge I asked what it was for and was told that it was for cup of hot water. I was told "you can't bring your own item to drink in here". I hadn't been to Athenian in several years. I used to visit it quite often for weekend breakfast. But today, I had the extreme displeasure of visiting Athenian again. As I was eating my lunch, the owner "John" sent a waitress over to me to tell me to turn my phone down. My phone was sitting next to my plate and the audio was so low, I could not even make out what was coming out of it. My response was, "excuse me?" Then "John" starts chiming in that "the acoustics are really bad in the restaurant and it's really loud." I replied, "There are conversations going on everywhere that are so loud, even I can't hear my phone." And the only reason "John" even knew I had the audio on was because he sat down in a customer seat across from me as he seemed exhausted from ringing customers up. I'm sure ringing the cash register is the only cardio "John" has done in the past 20 years! I then told "John" that I will never be coming back to his restaurant. To which he replied, "Now you're being rude, so I'm going to be rude." Really, that's your definition of rude, me saying I won't come back to a restaurant where the owner begins to berate a paying customer for no reason. The reason I keep typing "John" with quotes around it is because "John" didn't have the guts to tell me his name. I had to get that info from one of his employees. One would think that if you were the King of the Jerks, you'd want to wear that crown and scream your name at the top of your lungs. Well, "John" I just want to let you in on a little secret. I'm not the only person who thinks you are a bombastic jerk. I will guarantee you that every single one of your employees hates you and can't stand dealing with you every day. Got some lunch here and the service was amazing. The server was nice and the food came out really fast. I got the gyro and it was really good. The fries were nice and crispy but they did have a bit of fish taste to them. The egg was cooked and was good too. I also got the chicken stir fry which was nice. The chicken was a bit burnt but it wasn't that tough. The stir fry was sauced nicely just wish it was noodles and not rice. I also got the mushroom burger which was good too. Talk about false advertising. Athenian Coney Island offers neither the affordable prices nor generous portions characteristic of the Coney Island franchise. Nor does this restaurant serve authentic Greek food because there's no flavor in the dishes here. Don't be fooled by the name. If you're looking for a satisfying meal look elsewhere. As far as Coney Islands go, this one has good food. Have been here a few times and the food and service is consiatantly good. The only problem is that the managers seem to be very rude, except when they talk to a customer. What manager school teaches one to call a waitress away from speaking with a customer to give her a hard time? I find that very juvenile. However the waitresses always return with a smile able to contain the expected eye rolling and disgust with the manager. Very professional behavior for the teenagers which is more than I can say for the management. But again, the food and service. . .very good!! read more

This is a place that is consistent and cheap! I have had a lot of chili, (srsly I may need to cut it back) and this place is one of my favorites. Their chili is classic and always good. I get the chili fries (no cheese cause I'm anti velveeta lol) with ranch and it hits the spot every time. They recently upgraded the place and it looks amazing and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The chicken tenders are really good too but my favorite is the chili fries. The portions and price are great for a local eatery. The location is convenient too if you're shopping at 12 oaks or live in the Novi/ Northville area like I do. I keep coming back, love it! read more
