I called to inquire about 1 room, 2 queen beds, and something for a child. I was told they couldn't accommodate the child. My family discussed our options and about 30 minutes later we called back to reserve the room, minus the child, the child would stay home. I was questioned about why we were coming up, the owner stated "she wouldn't have rented out 1 room for just Saturday but her husband already told us he would so...." Then she questioned me about who was staying in the room. I stated myself, my boyfriend, his sister and Her wife. Then I was told "I couldn't sleep in the room with other people!" I finalized the room and hung up. Not 1 minute later she called me back and asked me about the child and where they were going to be. At this point my boyfriend spoke up and said "I get the feeling you don't want our business." And she stated "I will cancel your reservation." And hung up. Why??? Homophobic? We are all adults, we have good jobs, 2 of them are Union workers. I am upset, disgusted, and horrified that someone would treat us this way. We were TRYING to support local businesses during covid but instead our money is now going to a major chain. Too bad. We come up there 4x a year for mud bogging and could have been repeat customers. read more

Place is a boot camp with un welcoming vibes the whole stay. The wife snipped at my grandpa for leaving the door open while he was bringing his luggage in the room. The place only has 1 fridge and it was unlocked when we arrived at 6ish pm. Clint immediately locked it and asked him if we could store a couple items since I have diet restrictions. I was told that's not what it's for. I promise they sit and watch the cameras. They are very unhappy people and this is not how you should run a business. Wish I would of read the reviews. I agree with John's recent comment regarding the "bad vibes" from the female owner/proprietor. She was very short with us during our check in process. When asked why the refrigerator in the community room was locked and if we could use it she emphatically stated "No, it's not to be used". We didn't find out until the next day that is where they store the breakfast items. Breakfast is to be served until 9:30, but when we were in there fixing our coffee or trying to get something to eat at that time she would put things away WHILE we were still standing there trying to get our breakfast. She would even throw the coffee out and we had no access to coffee throughout the day. The community room is not very community oriented. No access to extra items you may need for an extended-stay such as trashbags, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.. The rooms and grounds of the lodge are kept clean and very nice. It's just unfortunate the proprietors/owners make you feel unwelcome and unwanted on their premises. Very strange indeed! The only nice person we met with a pleasant personality was the young lady that did the actual cleaning of the rooms. Thank goodness for her!! read more

My husband and I come to Baldwin year round and stay here every time. I know our rooms are spotless and rooms are clean from top to bottom. Staying at the Red Moose Lodge in Baldwin Michigan. The hostess has ridiculed us on several occasions for being too loud for disturbing guess all the while no one has done anything inappropriate. She is rude disrespectful and very much a busybody. She watches every time we move on her video camera system. It's now 2 o'clock in the morning Michigan time and she followed one of my roommates back into the room after he was out smoking a cigarette because he left outside and disturb the whole complex. This lady has no idea how to deal with people. If you're snowmobiler and want to come up here do not stay here and if your fisherman good luck you better be in bed by 8 o'clock. We were not going to say anything about this this morning, but when we went to have breakfast, the sink in the breakfast area bathroom did not work. I would think that would be against public health code. I truly hate to go this direction, but this lady is more than a bitch. Excuse me sir but you never had the Balls to even come over and talk to us, not the day we got there not the second night. You would have no idea what it's like to party like a rockstar. I believe you were so bored with your life that you think anybody that stays up till 1 o'clock in the morning is partying like a rockstar. You and your wife are both flaming idiots. Just because adult stay up till a particular time doesn't mean they're partying or that their juvenile. And yes anybody wanting to stay at your place better be tucked in by 9 o'clock and using very quiet inside voices. I read another person's review and they felt the same way about your bitchy wife. I certainly hope the Michigan department of public health looks into your kitchen area that has no clean running water. read more

If you have ATVs, stay as far away from this place as you can. Smelled of dead animal. The owner is a control freak who has a rule for everything. He has white towels that he expects to stay clean after people are riding in the dirt and mud or else he will CHARGE FOR THEM. He threatens about messing up the carpet...the air conditioning he boasts about is locked at 74 degrees max, the back door was not functional and had a note about messing up the tile floor. Not to mention the SECURITY CAMERAS all over the place even the enclosed porch. Felt like our every move was being watched. In response to Clint. First and foremost What I said is true and I have no reason to lie about your business as I have stayed at the lodge other times , had family stay and friends. If I thougjt this was a bad place I would not recommend. Now maybe you thought everyone was staying overnight, but as I stated we came from TEXAS to visit my grandmother's gravesite. They came from Grand Rapids and were leaving that evening. Second after we checked in I drove to your house and mentioned one....repeat one more person staying the night. If I was trying to scam you I would not have done that as I had a respect for your business and did not want to have someone I did not pay for. Maybe you don't allow people to have guest when they rent the property but it is not listed. As far as being ashamed of myself...never as I am a very honest woman. If your wife or whomever she is would have came and spoke to us in a non confrontational manner the situation would have me write a different respo se. She came down there and saw the kids playing and us women sitting on the pprch speaking amongst each other listening to jazz. Even when she talked down to us we never raised our voices but complied as this is your property and moved to the park until they left to to back to Grand Rapids. So in all I did not lie and we were not having a family reunion because our reunions are over 100 McKinney's strong and proud. Maybe because of our appearance the hostess thought we would be combative but we just complied to her wishes. Maybe you both of you should learn to NOT judge a book by it's cover. We didn't have a good stay and decided to forfeit our money and leave early. For several reasons actually. One being we over charged. We were quoted $110. per night. She said she wouldn't charge us the pet fee, because she had forgot about it. So for a 3 night stay it should have been around $330 plus tax, however we were charged $413. and change. After a 5 hour drive, we didn't think about it. The cabin was as pictured, but is wasn't comfortable for us. The double bunk beds block out most of the light from the ceiling lights in the bedrooms. Even with the blinds open, it didn't help much. You have to crawl over a log rail to get in and out of the bed, which is fine if you are 8 years old. I had to clean the yard up from previous dogs in order to take care of ours. I was glad I brought the scooper! I kept finding hair and whiskers all over that were not ours. I think they had a challenging cleaning from the previous people. I just cleaned a bit and we kept going. There is a barn about 5 feet behind the cabin. Both nights we were there, someone came to the barn and stayed for quite awhile. That did it. It was difficult to relax and be comfortable. It would probably be fine for someone else, but it didn't work for us. There is room to walk your dog around which was nice. read more

the Taj Mahal it is not...but if you are looking for a great place to stay while fishing, biking, snowmobiling in northern michigan..than this is the place. It is clean, well kept, they have a great lodge area and it overlooks the PM RIver. We stay back in the woods in a cabin that they offer and have stayed there several times over the last several years. The cabin is my favorite, it is quiet and feels like your own for the time you stay there. Wake up to turkeys gobbling and watch deer walk down the road in the evening. Perfert! read more
