The Monet Suite
Melissa Y.

I stayed at the Lamplighter for a 'me' mini vacation this past weekend. My stay was wonderful in every way! Upon arriving, I was greeted by Jen, who is an absolute gem of a person. Very warm, kind, and helpful. I felt very comfortable in the home quickly. I was in the Monet suite, which, to be honest, I was a bit worried about when I reserved it that it wouldn't be private enough, since it is on the first floor, but even though it is located close to the entrance of the home, it was plenty private enough, as it is the only room located on this floor, and I never heard a peep from anyone during the course of my stay. The room itself was cozy, quaint, peaceful, and beautifully decorated with muted colors and Monet's artwork. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The shower in the lovely bathroom is newer, quite large, and amazing! I didn't use the towels or soaps, as I bring my own when I go places due to skin sensitivities, but there were ample towels and handmade soaps in the bathroom. The following morning, I met Dan, who was also very friendly and kind. Breakfast was served outdoors on the patio, which was nice, especially since the yard is incredibly beautiful with flowers, a gazebo, a firepit, fresh vegetables and herbs growing, and more. I breakfasted alongside two other guests, who were an absolutely delightful couple, and we had great conversation. The breakfast was phenomenal, especially since Jen and Dan were happy to accommodate my lifestyle(vegan), which I greatly appreciated, and they accidentally served me all of my favorite foods(polenta with vegetables and potatoes, avocado tomato salad, coconut milk yogurt with berries, fresh fruit)! Checkout was extremely easy. I did quite a lot during my stay in Ludington, but the highlight by far was my stay at The Lamplighter. I will definitely stay again, and I highly recommend this place to everyone!

The most amazing poached egg I have ever had in my life.

Believe me, we will be back for a third stay! Melanie, the owner, is such an amazing host. She goes out of her way to make you feel special. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, you will feel like royalty. When we first arrived, she presented us with warm cookies, a beverage of choice, and a small jar of local homemade jam. She then showed us around the place and walked us to our room. Our room was very clean and there were snacks in there also. Although the rooms aren't huge there is plenty of space for sleeping and each room has it's own bathroom and shower. But by far, it's the breakfast and all day sweet treats that please people and bring them back. For breakfast, Melonie makes egg dishes, potatoes, bacon, sausage, and many sweet dishes. She also has a variety of fruit, juices, coffee, and tea available. She takes special requests and is sure to meet any food allergies/tolerances. Melanie also bakes throughout the day. While we were there she provided us with fudge, cookies, dessert bars, lemon squares, cheesecake, and more. There is also a variety of ice cream flavors available in the fridge - serve yourself. To top it off, she has a small refrigerator full of beverages available at all times and she won't want you to leave empty handed. When we checked out, she said be sure to grab a beverage to go! I really don't know how Melanie, Chuck, and Chris manage the place and make all the scrumptious food. On top of that they renovate and keep up their beautiful flower gardens. Check out my photos. If you are anxious about the idea of a bed and breakfast, this is the place for you!! There are many seating areas for eating and you do not have to make small talk with strangers - unless you want to. You pick your time for breakfast and Melanie makes sure everything is ready then. Not only that but she keeps your coffee full with a smile. Thanks for everything, Melanie, Chuck, and Chris. We will be back!

We had just taken the ferry from Manitowoc, WI and landed safely in Ludington. I promised my wife…read morethat I would find her a special place to stay for our last two nights of our "vacation with no destination." I jumped on The Yelp while we were waiting on our car to be driven off the ferry and one of the first places that popped up was this, what appeared to be lovely, Bed and Breakfast, The Inn Bed and Breakfast of Ludington. I placed a quick call, they had availability and Kathy, the Inn Keeper invited us to stop by and take a look - before we said that we would stay. When we arrived about 3 min later, we were welcomed by Kathy with invitations of coffee, crackers and snacks, before we said we would stay. We saw truly lovely furniture and decorations trout the lower level that made us feel like we were back in the early 1900's. We were escorted up the grand staircase to our choice of rooms. (We were there a little off season and it was not busy). Every room we saw was meticulously decorated and had our own air conditioning controls. We stayed in the "master suite" that had a large wood buring fireplace, that worked, and the section of the house that had a turret. (This was my wires favorite). Every room had its own bathroom, tv (we did not use it much the room was too nice). In the morning when we awoke to the yummy smells of Bacon and eggs being prepared for us and the two other couples that were staying there, we went downstairs and were treated to taste, and enjoy, those yummy smells. We made new friends and talked about all manner of things before we started our excursions for the day. Kathy was a superb hostess and directed us to where to eat and gave us the entire history of her home and how they continue to make the Inn of Ludington better and more enjoyabe, if that is possible. Ludington has a few B&B's, many motels and a few hotels. For the price, location, and most importantly the service, I don't know why anybody would choose to stay anywhere else. Our next trip up to the area will likely involve a stay here.

Hilton holds…read moreall of its brands to a high caliber of quality and service, so staying anywhere else (for me) is a tough situation. Until September 10, 2016. I was hired to DJ a wedding at the Stearns. But given that the area didn't have a lot of choices for quality lodging, I accepted my fate and booked a room for the night. I was impressed with the history of the hotel. It's been around since the 1800s and most of the original wood and architecture is in tact. Talk with the front desk and have them tell you the story of this Stearns fella who built the place. Pretty rich history here. I didn't interact much with the staff except for the front desk folks. They were very friendly and knew a ton about the area and the hotel. I was there a bit earlier than normal checking because of my role with the wedding, so my room wasn't ready that early; however, they were super willing to get it ready for me early. We just had to wait on the precious guest to check out. So that was cool. It was a reasonably priced and very clean room. Pretty spacious for a queen bed, mini fridge, and microwave. The hotel is within walking distance to everything Ludington has to offer and sits across the street from a historical building with a clock tower remnant of Back to the Future. My favorite part of this hotel, though, was the tiki bar located downstairs and away from the rooms. It felt like everybody in town was there. The crowd was great, the drinks were reasonable, and the music was my cup of tea. Remember, this is a picky DJ who's seen his share of parties. Thank you Stearns for a comfortable stay, an amazing reception venue, and an exciting after party!

BUT the paint is chipping, I can whisper and the neighbors hear next door, the rooms are overwhelmingly small. I feel like an gorilla in such a tiny spot. I think there needs to be free breakfast for the prices they charge especially in a downtown area. I think in a downtown area with many choices for hotels, motels, inns, b&b's this could be better and I hope it can remain respectful to the old but revamp it a little bit

Spent the day in Ludington seeing the various sights and shops. Waiting for the SS Badger car ferry to take us across Lake Michigan. We were able to stay in the room above the office which offered a deck area with a deck table and chairs. Comfortable and enjoyable in watching the sun set over Lake Michigan. Coffee make in the room was a nice benefit. Our family enjoys a great cup of coffee, and while the coffee they provide is okay - we ended up getting some better coffee. It was great. This room is the closest to the road, which did seem to be a bit noisy at times due to traffic. But it wasn't that bad at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We checked out the indoor pool, but never used it since it was nice, sunny, and warm during our stay - and we were able to enjoy Lake Michigan. The room was clean, everything worked, and we appreciated the clean and fresh smell and atmosphere. Beds were comfortable and we really enjoyed our visit.
