Nicest inn in Michigans lower peninsula! The lady running the front desk is so friendly and helpful- recommended great food/ice cream places nearby to me! The rooms themselves felt very homey and are clean. Although the room didnt have a fridge, there was a microwave and ice machine in the shared hallway leading to the koi pond. The back area is so unique, it felt like someone's private backyard, so quiet and peaceful! There's an entire covered deck with comfy lounge chairs, and seating along the large koi pond. Guests pre-order their breakfast at check-in and pick a time slot to eat at, breakfast itself was very tasty and was planned so efficiently! This inn also has an indoor library with a wide selection of books! Such a great experience here, I highly recommend booking for the night if you're in the area! read more

Well-maintained motel that isn't a chain and looks like a roadside motel out of the 1950s (probably because it was). Yet... it is upgraded. Quiet rooms - a bit smaller than more modern motels; solid walls; area with books and board games; great healthy breakfast (either a fruit/granola option or some sort of quiche). Summers Inn is a converted motel. It is being graded based on that and not compared to a large chain hotel. The rooms were winsome. Charming. Quaint. The bed was extremely comfortable. We got a room with a king bed. Since this was a motel the bathroom was a bit small but that was fine because we really were not in the room that much. They crammed so much into that little room yet it didn't feel cluttered. The only complaint we had were the accessibility of the outlets. In this day and age there needs to be more outlets near the bed. People have phones and watches that they need to charge and potentially even a Cpap. Thankfully I brought an extension cord with me and we were able to get everything plugged in. I assume there used to be a pool in the back and that was converted to a Koi pond. The landscaping behind the motel was very beautifully done. Simplistic but spectacular. Everything had a purpose. read more

"We gladly accept children 16 and over." We stayed here before our daughter was born, and won't be back for ~15 years, but it suited us fairly well at the time. Definitely feels like a 1950s motel that got a "boutique" renovation recently; the exterior walls and roof look basic, the carpet and chairs are fancy. They pride themselves on their breakfast --- good quickbreads, good jam. The pool and patio in back are pretty, but feel strangely deserted and non-commercial --- we kept checking if we'd wandered off the property into someone else's back yard. Pleasant, just a touch unexpected. I guess we'll be back once our daughter's old enough to pass muster at the front desk? read more

Okay, I /adored/ this place. I was a little unsure about the size of the room on my initial reservation, as I had reserved the "Small Queen" option for a two night stay. It was just two of us, and I was ready for it to be like literally a bed in a room with a little door to a bathroom. But no! There was a little desk and chair, and also a little bench for your shoes underneath a coat rack, so I never felt like I was particularly cramped or there wasn't enough space for anything. My one request for the main room is to maybe add those folding luggage racks to each room, because we didn't really have a convenient place to put our suitcases except on the floor, and I know some people are really weird about that kind of thing. The bathroom, yes it's smaller than you're average 'hotel chain' bathroom, but honestly it's like the size of a bathroom in a regular suburb-based home. The shower is quite roomy, but one request - PLEASE install another ledge or maybe just a suction-cup toiletry rack or something?? I had nowhere to put my shampoos and such without just setting them on the floor of the shower and I am quite blind without my glasses on. :) The grounds were spectacular. I loved the vintage motel style setup of personal rooms because I never had to hear anyone storming down a hallway in the morning or talking too loudly that I get from normal hotels. Except unlike most motels, this place is CLEAN. The sheets still smelled faintly of bleach and that was super relaxing to notice. Also, NO KIDS. Holy crap I never realized how much I would appreciate a no kids hotel until I was in one in Ludington. No screaming children, no one running around, being crazy. There were so many obnoxious tourist children in the rest of the city it was so nice to go back to the hotel for some peace and quiet. If you're a very light sleeper from a more rural area, you might notice some traffic noise if you're in one of the rooms right by the main road, but we're city-goers so we weren't disturbed by it at all. But I would definitely keep that in mind if you're not used to it, and maybe ask for a room more away from the road. The gardens were /beautiful/. I could open our room windows and hear the sound of the fountain. We sat out there with our morning coffees and did some journaling and it was really relaxing and gorgeous. There's also a little library/study room with books and comfortable seating if the weather isn't great and you'd like to do a little light reading out of the room. I won't even spend forever talking about the breakfast but, /wow/ that was a highlight of our stay!! When you walk up to the lobby, there's a sign listing the daily options for the omelette, usually 3-4 things, and then the choice of yogurt with granola and fruit. They let you remove any toppings that you don't want in your omelette if you're a picky eater, (like me!) and your choice of homemade bread. You get one slice, and whatever homemade jams they have available. And the omelette seems like a 3 egg omelette served with a scoop of fresh fruit and a piece of a baked good. (We had apple fritters!) If you're still hungry, there's a cereal option as well to add onto the rest of your meal. The hotel is definitely within walking distance of a majority of the shopping. We walked down to The Mitten Bar and Kilwin's an afternoon and it was only like a 7 minute walk? Very convenient. And then I guess the last thing I need to rave about is the /service/. They were unbelievably sweet and friendly here. We actually had a mishap on our first day in, 2 hours before check-in we got splashed by a big wave on the Breakwater in our regular clothes! So I called and asked if it was okay if we did an early check-in so we could change our clothes, and they so were so nice and accommodating, "Sure come right on over!" it was really nice to be saved that embarrassment of walking around soaked for two hours. I mean, it's the little things, right? I would definitely come back here again. It's quirky in it's own ways, but I was just swept up by the charm of it. My enjoyable crossing on the S.S. Badger arrived late but Suzette was very welcoming completing my last minute room reservation on the phone. She informed me what room # was reserved and left the lights on for my arrival. Suzette asked my breakfast preferences and what time was suitable. She left me towels to dry off my motorcycle in the morning. What a nice touch to make you feel welcome. The room is clean and beautiful with a nice outside garden seating area. I cannot say enough good things about Summer's Inn! First, the price is very affordable and the location is close enough to downtown Ludington that you can walk to town comfortably. Also, if you take a walk past the ice machine you are treated to a very nice Koi fish pond and outdoor seating area. However, possibly the best part of the entire stay was the breakfast. It is listed as a "continental breakfast" but it is so much better than that. They prepare you a fresh scramble along with freshly cut fruit, homemade break, homemade jam, coffee, and juice. The scrambles were delicious - it was so much better than starting the day with the typical continental breakfast! The staff there were so friendly to us. I was working remotely and asked if I could sit in the dining area as I worked. They were kind enough to keep fresh coffee out for me, offer me another slice of homemade bread (of course!), and suggested an amazing spot downtown for lunch. At night we relaxed in the dining area with a glass of wine and enjoyed the fire. We will definitely be going back to Summer's Inn and likely taking friends next time. Wonderful place, quiet, clean, charming. A gem of a place in a small waterfront town worth exploring.

Interesting and unusual sort of place. It's a 60s-era motor court that's been extensively remodeled and sent upscale. Advantages: very nicely appointed rooms, decent bed linen, scrupulously clean. Lots of landscaping on the grounds. Friendly staff. Nice cooked breakfast, (They don't have a full menu. It's the omelet du jour, toast, and fresh fruit. It was really good, though.) The disadvantages are really mostly unavoidable consequences of the place's origin as a motor court. The rooms don't have closets (at least mine didn't). Bathroom was small and had only a shower. Heat and A/C was one of those through-the-wall motel units in the back wall of the room. Not enough electrical outlets, and none at the nightstands. No pool. It has a certain sort of offbeat appeal. I enjoyed it and would return if I found myself in Ludington again. read more

Attractive, comfortable and clean rooms and friendly accomodating owners and staff. The breakfasts (included in the price of the room) were excellent. We stayed in one of the larger rooms with microwave, coffee pot, toaster, and refrigerator, so we had plenty of room to relax. Highly recommended. We stayed at the Summer's Inn (This place) during the 4th of July holiday. Check in was as easy as it gets. We called hours before to check availability and was told many rooms were open (but going fast). We booked 1 night, drove down, checked in and was set. Price was the lowest in the area during that time, which was a huge plus. The rooms were comfortable for 2 people. Bathrooms were a little small, but as another user said, bring your own shampoo. The best feature during our stay was the A/C! It was 90 degrees during the day we stayed, which made it 70s during the night. The nice cool breeze while sleeping was a relief after a hot travel day. Wi-Fi was easy to connect to and the area around the motel was comfortable. There was a nice fish pond and garden out back and a nice little patio/garden area outside our rooms. Wine was offered when we checked in and available throughout the day. Breakfast was alright. They served a egg casserole with toast and home-made jam. Bread was great, but the food choices were limited. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. read more

We booked a Standard king room. Although their bathrooms are smaller than most hotels it was clean and functional. The bed was comfortable. We were pleased with our room. There are several covered patios for use and we found a koi pond and zen garden on the property. Staff was friendly, even offered us towels to wipe down our motorcycle. Breakfast is sit down with the most amazing fresh made omelette and fresh fruit. This is a place we will come back to. We liked the fact it was adult only. read more

Looking for our '19 accomadations in Ludington. Will not stay at Summers In. My husband had a negative experience with a male housekeeper there, almost to the point of the man being beligerant and confrantational with my husband. Also had a minor plumbing problem in the bathroom we request twice be fixed, which it never did get fixed.
