My husband offered to take me to dinner on 9/1/2019 to my favorite go to place, Red Lobster, in Denton, TX. We live about 25 miles north of Denton. Hopped in the truck, got on our way and was excited for dinner out with the hubby, with great food and conversation. Greeted with a friendly hostess welcoming us to Red Lobster, was seated and had a very friendly, vibrant waitress, ordered our drinks......and the night went downhill!!! To preface what I am about to comment on, my husband and I order the same exact things when we go to Red Lobster and it has always been delicious, hot, and delightful! So let's begin........
First, we ordered Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms...well, they looked like they were hastily thrown together, very small mushrooms and not very eye-appealing and soggy (as if they had not been baked but microwaved)!
My husband ordered his normal Admiral's Feast, minus the clams with added shrimp (for upcharge no problem). As he does not particularly like salad he orders the cup of Lobster Bisque in place of the salad (for upcharge no problem). When his Lobster Bisque arrived, it was lukewarm to cool (yes he ate it)! We did let our waitress know so that she could inform the kitchen. As sweet as she was, she did apologize then stated that the waitresses do not "taste test" the food! Well duh, you are not suppose to taste test a customers food, it is the kitchen's responsibility to temp the food before it leaves their kitchen!! To continue, when he finally received his dinner his flounder fillets looked like two small fishsticks, the baked potato was not cooked well, was still a bit hard and not soft, and the fried shrimp was so-so!
I ordered the Ultimate Feast, which I always order when I go to Red Lobster so I don't have to make the tough decision about crab, lobster or shrimp as this has all of it! I have NEVER been so disappointed in a dinner that cost $30.00 in my life! When I got my plate the first thing I noticed was I had tarter sauce for my fried shrimp vs. cocktail sauce (that had never happened, but was not that big of a deal just an observation since they did bring cocktail sauce). The shrimp were a bit soggy vs. freshly fried shrimp, the shrimp scampi was absolutely hot and delicious, the crab was overcooked, a bit dry and hard to get out of the shell, the lobster adequate, the baked potato was not soft and should have been cooked a little longer. I also had to request drawn, melted butter for the crab and lobster and a bowl with the crackers for the crab so it could be eaten. Although those two things were easy to remedy, a restaurant with the caliber of Red Lobster and the cost to eat there, the "little things" should NOT be overlooked!
The only other problem I had was with the "up charge" which we have gladly paid for in the past! It does not appear to be an "up charge" any longer but the cost of the food item as if you had ordered it separately!!
Sorry to say my favorite restaurant was disappointing in both food and cost. No we didn't complain, but did let our waitress know. She either didn't tell the manager or he chose not to come over to our table!! read more
