I don't know what happened but this restaurant just isn't good anymore. The last few times I went was really disappointing and I finally decided to never go again. Has been awhile since I went in here and wow! Not sure why I decided to give it another try. First the place smells musty when you walk in. Needs a good cleaning. Not very busy and it was freezing! Guess they think keeping the employees cool is more important then making it comfortable for their guests. 50 outside and they had the air on. Instead of offering me another place to sit, there was only about 25-30 empty tables, maybe more, she said she turned the air up. The burger was a big disappointment. Over cooked and no flavor. Plus looked like cheap hamburger, the kind with the pieces of grizzle in them. They use se to be so good. Was hoping the server would bring me a refill because, I had to eat the second half with nothing to drink. Couldn't find her any where. A couple other customers said they were surprised how bad service was now when I got up to see if I could find another employee. Was hoping I could get my bill. She finally came around the corner, saw me and went back to the register to add up my bill. Dessert might have been nice but I wanted to get outside, hoping it would be warmer. For as dead as the place was, service was horrible. Wish I would have listen to the other customers and gave her a smaller tip. read more

On a positive note, they have great pizza and if you hit a night where the pizza is the special, then bonus. But if you're just looking for a burger or sandwich, keep walking down the street to Oxford Tap. None of the burgers or sandwiches at Red Knapp's come with fries, which is rather unheard of. So, if you want a handful of fries with your burger or sandwich, it will run you an additional $2.19...$3.99 if you'd rather have onion rings...on top of the $8-$9, or higher if you create your own, burger. The food was good, but not THAT good. Sorry, but I doubt that we will be back. read more

I have eaten here in the past with good service and good food. This time, service was poor and food was over cooked or stone cold. Ordered my steak med-rare, came out med-well, potatoes and green beans were stone cold. What I thought was interesting was when the server asked my party if we wanted desert, I said that I would go to DQ as it probably would be better, and the server responded, "yes, it would be". Very disappointing experience during this visit, don't know if I would visit this location again. read more

We arrived there late evening. The host sat us in the outdoor dining area. The scenery was beautiful. Very romantic. The appetizer we ordered were the broccoli and cheese and bacon fritters ??? Amazing ! (We were debating between them and the fried pickle Spears) . Thank you to the waiter with the glasses who helped us make a choice. The pizza was very good. I ordered Jalapeño and pepperoni on half cheese on the other half. Usually I have other pizza places cook it an extra couple of minutes and when it arrived I noticed I forgot to tell the waiter to cook it for a longer amount of time; was it a problem ? No, the pizza was perfect. Not undercooked at all with a perfect texture. All in all, I was glad I came here. The waiter was also a delight. Very attentive. read more

Red Knapp's is one of the pillar restaurants in Oxford. Regulars and newcomers are always immediately impressed with their unique and delicious "Rosemary Bread". Well, that's what I call it anyway. The Knapp Burger classic is as good as a Cheeseburger gets, and my wife made me stop and get one every week during her pregnancy. The fish and chips are awesome, with light but flavorful breading, always crispy and moist. When I decide to really cheat on the diet, my personal favorite is Bayou Chicken Tortellini. Creamy, spicy, cheesy, and plenty. It is totally worth it. The Knapp family is also known for treating their employees well. In fact, if you frequent the resreraunt, you will see many familiar faces, and this low turnover translates into great customer service. read more

This is my second time to Red Knapps, not to be confused with Bill Knapps for all you people out there that weren't zygotes when BK existed. Friday I had a deer head glaring at me. I mean, he was pissed. Our service was great, friendly and it was quiet considering it was 5:30 on a Friday evening. My dinner companion had the deep fried pickles and was ready to do shots of the Ranch. He reported in as being satisfied and filled. He also had the 1 pound burger which he loved. I stuck with my standard small burger, swiss/mushroom combo. The hamburger buns are homemade and yum. It's worth a stop by, especially if you have kids or old people with you. read more

I've been to Red Knapps a handful of times in the past year, and it's decent. No wow factor to write about though. The food is decent at best. I haven't had the burgers everyone is raving about, but I have had their white fish dinner a couple of times and it was pretty good. The service has been good, and the hot bread they bring to the table for dinner is good as well. Maybe next time I'll get one of their burgers. My parents are huge fans of this place, but I only get to go when I come home from Seattle for a visit. With my limited experience, I can confidently say that the Knapps burger is the dish of choice. It's one of the best burgers I've had, and I've eaten all the way from one coast of the country to the other. read more

I hadn't been to Red Knapps in a long time. I'm not from the area. I went on a Friday night and while the place was packed, it didn't take long to be seated. Our order was taken promptly and the home made bread is as good as advertised. I got the Bar-B-Q Burger. Great Fries and the burger was very good and very big. The others in my party got the Fettuccine and all were very happy. Our waitress Carly was great, not an empty glass at our table throughout the service. Great decor unless you are a PETA card carrying member. Well worth the trip. read more

We were passing through and stopped here on a Sunday for lunch. It was busy, nice atmosphere-a little dated, lots of animal heads. We had a burger and a Mac and cheese entree. Neither one was great. And the difficult thing was we watched our kids meal and burger sit in the open window (which is very visible to tables) for a LONG time before the Mac and cheese finally came out, and even then the food sat for way too long while our waitress and someone seeming to be the manager fiddled with the computer. As always Red Knapps in Oxford offered a great hamburger and French fries lunch. I would say I have two favorite places to eat hamburgers and this place is top on my list. Burger is o.k. If you want good cooking keep going. Just about the only place in town except for fast food, chinese and a couple of bars.

Best thing is the bread. It took us 25 minutes for a waiter to come get our order and another 40 to get our food. Prices are way to expensive for what you get. read more

It's good casual dining. The pizza is always good, except the Greek one, it was literally all feta and I couldn't eat it. Personal pizzas are more cheesy, I recommend not getting a personal. The fried picked were ahhhmmaazzzinnngggg, and so were the mozzarella sticks. Oh and the ranch is great. The service was good and prompt. read more

Overall I am pleased with our experience at this restaurant. For anybody who doesn't know, they do not accept reservations. We went with a larger party and called ahead. They said they would try and save a table but it didn't work out. Good food. Great atmosphere. Saw reviews beforehand and saw a lot of mentions of the ranch. It's homemade ranch that tasted like you would expect. I got the fried fish and was pleased with it. We came at a busy time on a Friday night and service was pretty good for being so busy. Went here for the first time on my birthday. Husband really enjoyed his fish and chips and bread was great. I ordered the special amaretto chicken. The food was brought out to us and that was the last time we saw our waitress until we paid our tab, despite almost six restaurant staff standing by the register visiting. My chicken was extremely rubbery and overly sweet, I'm not one to send back food but told the waitress when we finally saw her and she kindly took it off our tab. Red Knapps is an Oxford staple. I don't really venture off here though. I get the same two things: pizza and the Knapp Burger. Thee best pizza!!!!! And thee best burger I've ever had. I compare every burger to their burger and nothing beats it. Gotta get it deluxe though. And their bread!!!! No one beats it! Used to be a good, reasonably-priced place for general American food: burgers, fish & chips, etc. Plus the appetizer bread rivals even Kruse & Muer. However in recent years it seems the place has gone downhill, with its servers, quality and especially the portions relative to the pricing. The growing area of Oxford and nearby Lake Orion are providing increasing better options at this price point. IMO, try someplace else. read more

My dinner was NOT bad. But - the place is not clean. The table stools are not sturdy - the young lady who sat us, used a towel to clean the seats THEN cleaned our table with it. She also brought our drinks and set them on the table - holding them from the top. Floors are dirty and your feet stick to them. You know that they say you can tell how clean a restaurant's kitchen is, from the cleanliness of their bathrooms. This is simply a dirty restaurant.
