When placing the drink order I asked the server for 1 Coke-a-Cola and 1 Two Hearted on draft. I told the server my wife and I would be sharing those two drinks. She promptly told me I could not share the Coke-a-Cola with my wife as they offer free refills and assumed I was going to take advantage of this offer in some way. First time eating here - I heard the burgers were great but I will NEVER be returning and will tell all I can about the soda-overlords. Consistently good food. We had a fantastic waitress and would go back just to have her again! The salmon (char-grilled) was cooked to perfection. After driving past this place for 50 years, FINALLY decided to check it out. Wow.... I've been missing out on some great food!!! Ham and bean soup was phenomenal!! I had the roast turkey sandwich, came on their homemade bread bun that was so light and delicious!! My husband had the fish and chips, 2 lightly battered Icelandic Cod filets that were perfectly cooked. Side of delicious, creamy coleslaw and 2 of their homemade herbed buns that were to die for!! We have been regulars at Knapp's for years. We like the atmosphere and there is a little something for everyone. The events of the past few visits have forced our hand to not visit anymore. Everyone has a bad night. The first slip was when it took an hour to get a cold pizza. The excuse was that another meal at our table took longer to cook and they want to orchestrate things so that everything comes at the same time, even though the person was adamant that it was ok with the server bringing out the rest of my party's food first if it was ready as they had bread. They remade the pizza an hour later, but it was a head scratcher. Off night? Ok. I wished they would have apologized instead of blaming the delay on the other dish. The next visit was beyond the pale. I did not get to eat. The rest of my party had finished eating and I still had no food. They tried to eat very slowly, too. As my party was leaving, I found out that my food was thrown away because it had been sitting a long time and was cold. The server had been checking back, but the food was never "up" and was a bit discouraged as well. Then, I discovered that they had started to make a second one, but pitched that one, too, because the cook did not follow the server's written instructions that I had a dairy allergy (the dish could be ordered broiled with oil instead of butter.) The owner asked if he could win our business back, but there its not possible at this point. I heard more than once around town that the problem is the kitchen. (Others have noticed the decline.) The owner does not wish to fire the incompetent kitchen employee because he rents an apartment to him and does not want to lose the rent Maybe you will be lucky and go on a "good night." The bun is lean and the patty is flavorful, I could not say much more but I had a bite of the Philly cheesesteak and it was good. We ordered dessert for my brothers birthday and it was a brownie with ice cream. The brownie was warm which surprisingly is uncommon. It had good flavors and good ice cream. Tip for kids. I just picked up 2 large Caesar salads..today 8/23/22.. when I opened them at home...no Parmesan cheese..I called and asked for a partial refund..they were 10.95 each...for romaine and croutons..I told my story to three different people...the last woman..said that there cheese shredder was broken..I said that is not my problem..she said I did not have to be rude and she would not partial refund on a Caesar salad...so my advice..check your carry out before you leave the restaurant.. read more

Not going to lie, we overstayed our welcome. Stayed until closing. However, our service ended way earlier. So we stayed, of course. We had to hunt for someone to refill our drinks. The manager kept adjusting the heat. The food was mediocre at best when you consider the total of my bill. Even though we now live in California, we still miss visiting Red Knapp's. The burgers are about the best I have ever had. They bake all their bread products, including the giant burger buns. Each burger seems to have been hand-pressed and cooked with individual attention. Add some fries and a chocolate shake and you are all set. The waitstaff is excellent. We were visiting in the Oxford area and this place was recommended so we gave Red Knapps a try for a casual dinner. It had the potential to be great but it was just OK. I think they might have gotten a fourth star from this reviewer, but the burger I ordered medium rare was delivered well done. That killed that fourth star. I hate it when they precook the burgers and as an expedient to the preparer, and the customer's request gets completely ignored. Well tonight my request got ignored. The burger had nice fresh tomatoes and shredded lettuce and it tasted "OK", but it probably would have tasted a lot better if hadn't been cooked well done. I probably should have sent it back, but I didn't want to inconvenience the rest of the party. If we go back, and we might, I think I will need to make it absolutely clear when I order that a well done burger will be rejected on delivery. The cook had to know this was not as ordered and the waiter could have made sure I got what I ordered too. Should I have made this only two stars? But even with the burger issue, the sandwiches, onion rings and fries were pretty good. The onion rings were nice and hot and cut very thick. I went to Knapps growing up my whole life and I have to say they have a very wide variety. The burgers and sandwiches are served on this weird kind of hybrid bun/eglish muffin, but somehow it works. The cajun one with ranch dressing is really good. OH, and speaking of their Ranch Dressing....HOMEMADE and SO good. It takes a lot for me to like ranch, and this place has it down. Two got chicken dishes. My son said it wasn't cooked and was rubbery...which perhaps means it was microwaved. My husband couldn't eat chicken again for several weeks after it was so disgusting. My burger, was OK but the bun was stale and tasted 'off.' Like it was old and microwaved. And at $10 it should include at least chips and a pickle. It includes NOTHING. just a burger on a tiny little plate. The pizza was worse than microwave pizza. Not even as good as DiGornio! Our beer was flat and tasted wrong. So I appreciate that the waitress switched it and took it back, but I was surprised that neither the manager nor the bartender touched in with us. I frequented the Red Knapps in Rochester for years. I love their cheeseburger, plain. The hamburger is always well seasoned and the bun is unlike any other. This one in Oxford does not disappoint. The burgers are just as good as the original plus they have a full menu of items including pizza, pasta, fish, and steaks. The atmosphere is lodge style with hunting trophies on the walls. While this isn't my style, it appeals to many. While I normally get the cheeseburger, I have also branched out into the pizza, steak, and ribs. All of which are nicely prepared. My wife generally prefers the fish or pasta. My kids get the Mac and cheese (my daughter's favorite, although it seems like Krafts to me) or chicken strips which seem to me to be a bit over breaded. So, if you want a handful of fries with your burger or sandwich, it will run you an additional $2.19...$3.99 if you'd rather have onion rings...on top of the $8-$9, or higher if you create your own, burger.
