Guess who just got new blinds and shades installed, YAY! I kept the ones I moved into the house…read morewith, and since then, they had to be moved (when I got new windows), resulting in some fitting differently. I also got a cat that (by accident) broke some of the blinds panels... and in other instances, the blinds just stopped opening because the mechanisms broke. So I've been thinking about getting new blinds for quite a while, and I knew I wanted it to be something sturdier than the classic thin beige ones. I did some research, and realized the kind of blinds I wanted, but also learned that they could only be purchased through certain distributors. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to support a small local business, so that's how I stumbled upon Wills Decorating. I arrived one early afternoon and the place really did feel like a mini Lowes or something, hahaha. The man behind the counter was wrapping things up with another customer. I took the time to explore and I immediately found the blinds I had in mind. But I also saw these cool looking shades that could be opened from the bottom... AND top. And they had this cool honeycomb shape, I was intrigued! When the man was done, I found it his name was Michael, and he is one of the owners, and he's local local! He grew up near the same community I currently live. So we talked about blinds and shades, and we arranged for the co-owner, Valerie, to call me so we could schedule time for her to come over. Within a week she came, and I made some decisions that I am so delighted with now that the project is done. We discussed colors, I told her what my plans were for painting -- she was VERY efficient and professional. And she was also very friendly, willing to chat about my vision and give recommendations. Days later, she followed up with a quote and we made it happen. I had to pay half once I decided to move forward, and then the other half after installation. Another person, Dave, came and did the installation at every window. He came in the middle of a workday, and I told him when I had meetings -- he started with my office window, and I was worried about having to move my desk. He was able to easily work around it! He worked very quickly! I was thoroughly pleased with what he had done -- and it wasn't before long I had a follow-up conversation with Valerie and she was asking how everything looked. Dave had sent her some pics and she was as excited as me. All that to say, I am overjoyed and I'm looking forward to my next house upgrade (when I cool down, financially, haha).

They completed a full scan and photographing of the property to provide the best quality report. The engineer was super knowledgeable and happy to explain any issues he noticed while working through the assessment. I then met with staff to discuss the report and answer any remaining questions. Eye roll. What a clown show. Well here's the update that I promised, unfortunately it's not in the direction I was hoping. I got an immediate response to my review below, with multiple requests to remove the review. I stated that I was open to updating or removing it, if things improved, and we ended up having a couple positive meetings. So much so that we elected to continue to work with them on the next phase of the project. So over the weekend (Sept 12-13), they sent us the contract for the next phase. We signed it and sent over the requested payment. I was hopeful! I was mentally drafting a positive update to this review! On Monday I received acknowledgement of receipt of the signed contract. Immediately following that, I got an email that said, and I quote "Before we can resume, please remove the Yelp review so we can start fresh and have a positive experience moving forward as we help you with your project." Guys, my jaw DROPPED. (My husband sent me a simultaneous "WHAT THE F***" text lol) Let me reiterate, we had signed the contract, sent the payment, and THEN received an email saying they wouldn't begin the work until a brand new condition had been met. We were completely floored. But okay, I thought, benefit of the doubt, the guy that sent that email has the position of junior assistant on the website, maybe he doesn't realize that what he's doing - withholding work that has been paid for unless we meet a new requirement that we never agreed to - constitutes a word that rhymes with shmextortion. So I responded that this requirement is unethical, inappropriate, and possibly a breach of contract. I gave him every opportunity to walk it back, and then reached out directly to the firm owner to verify that this was in fact the position that Bitarchitects was taking. The only response I got is that we can terminate the agreement, so that's what we did. To their credit, they processed the refund relatively quickly. So yeah, I don't know. I can only speak to my experience, of course. The other positive reviews indicate that other people have had better experiences with them. But this all does make me wonder if other reviews have been manipulated in a similar manner. So caveat emptor I guess. Because I fully expect they will respond and try to spin this in some way that makes me look like I'm the unreasonable one, I'm attaching screenshots of the actual email exchange (just the initial exchange, because the junior assistant started texting me after that email and it went on for a while, until I went back to email to contact the owner).
