At least a couple times a year, I come here for lunch with a few coworkers. For help, I always turn to the green machine. A colleague of mine that I convinced to try it likewise had a really positive experience. Please be patient as the vegan hot dogs take a bit longer to cook. Those brews aren't terrible. The people here are wonderful, making this a great spot to visit. It's in a sketchy part of town, which is my only criticism, but other than that, it's a great spot to check out before dinner. We got the 6th Ave strut and just a plain hotdog with Mayo for the kids. 6th Ave strut was good but had two half sliced tomatoes?? I was thinking it be chopped but nope. We went for Father's Day, because it is one of my dad's favorite places. It was pretty empty when we got there and easy to get a table. Parking was a little sparse but we found something. We saw a few people get denied service because they were minors, even though they have signs on every door, this seems to happen a bit from my experience. I had a crave for some hotdogs... this was our first visit. It was pretty busy for a Thursday night. Elliot was our server that also gave us some of his too 2 best hotdogs off the menu. We took his favs and tried it. Food was great. They also have nonalcoholic beer which was a plus since my wife and I don't drink. They have wonderful selection of beer also. I dig the prices too. $3 for a can of athletic ipa nonalcoholic. They open at 11a. We had some filthy nachos not that overwhelming but really yummy. You could add beans for vegetarian option. They got a cool ceiling full of beer handles sticking upwards. Picture added. Parking is an issue if you come at night. It's really hard to find one since they don't have a private lot. Our server expertly guided us to the beers we would like. I had a great rice lager, and a light blue collar lager. Both were just what I was looking for to keep my drinks light. Started out with the loaded nachos! Great flavors and a good sized appetizer. My hot dogs were the Coney Island, and The Red Hot. The Cony was spot on, light mustard, chili and some light onion. Delicious!! The red Hot had a spicy mustard and sweet relish which was also yummy. Both served with a delicious soft bun. The other two in my party had The Bah Mi which they loved. I haven't been to Red Hot on 6th Ave in Tacoma in what feels like ages as I don't drive around this area of Tacoma often and I unexpectedly happened to go into the area and decided what the heck I am hungry so I may as well grab food and a drink! I ended up online ordering after I noticed on their online ordering system that I could order online and pay cash for my order at the bar which is a huge plus as I didn't have much money in my card but had cash... most places to order online you must put down your card info and pay with that which I can understand why they do it that way, people could put orders in and the restaurant makes the order but then customer could no show and that ends up being a waste of food and loss of profit for the restaurant but I was really happy to have that option to order online and pay when I get there in cash and definitely wouldn't bail on picking up my order ! What I liked about this place when I came here in the past was the variety of creative options ! I mean a normal hot dog or sausage is fine but that gets boring quick. I like how crazy and creative they can go. For example, they have one particular dog that has peanut butter and bacon ... that certainly wouldn't be my first choice when coming here but I love seeing a menu with wild recipes like that and they aren't the only ones on 6th Ave Tacoma who have fun and funky menu items... my favorite burger at Dirty Oscars Annex is the "Dead Elvis" which has fried egg, candied bacon, peanut butter and banana ! I enjoyed the PUNK music about time a restaurant had good music!! ordered the Nitro: Left Hand Milk Stout and my GF ordered the Two towns pacific pineapple cider. Wow talk about a swing and miss!!!, not sure why the locals find this place a respectable hotdog/beer spot. The atmosphere was basically a cafeteria with sitting by people you don't know nor wanna hear their conversation lol. Tried to talk beer with the server but she had no idea what I was saying (weird for a place that reps beer/hot dogs.) Food was what you expect from a hot dog spot it's basically a "high end" 7/11. The food was great he had his two with beer and I had my 1 with vegan with sauerkraut. If you want to try a hot dog and not feel like you over did it, they have chicken /vegan hot dogs which are a bit lighter and include some vegetables. I wish the nachos had a little jalapeño juice added to the slaw. And the arugula on the dog was dressed with a vinaigrette. (If I'm being a critic). Delicious! We loved the menu and all of the different options for hotdogs and sausages. Very unique. We ended up getting our food as takeout as it is a 21+ establishment and we had our kiddos with us. Everything was delicious, but the beans and mac and cheese were heavy on pepper. If you are not a fan of pepper the sides may not be for you. The coleslaw is vinegar based. Being from the south I'm use to a more creamy coleslaw, but this one is vinegar based and a little bland. We for sure want to try a few different sausages on our next visit, but we were bummed on the 21+ and the amount of pepper especially in the beans was a little too much. Especially during the pandemic/covid they would benefit from being more family friendly especially at lunch time. read more

My friend and I visited this place because I was looking for vegan options. We waited for ten minutes before anyone even acknowledged that we were even there while they were just standing around talking amongst themselves. However, as soon as others came in they acknowledged them and took their orders right away. One even left and started cleaning the windows and the only way that we were even acknowledged was because we had to ask the guy cleaning the windows if we could get some assistance, even though they saw us when we walked in. I don't know but it could have had a lot to do with the color of our skin. The food tasted okay, but my stomach did not agree. We will not visit this restaurant again. read more
