Hello y'all! The fat boy and his wifey were out yup bike riding through our beautiful city and came across RHR! We also made the trip because we saw them on check please. (Lol) anyway we had to have one of these burgers & of course fries! That's a burger side kick, right? Anywho we both got dbl. cheeseburgers & fries. The fries were fresh cut a delicious!! A nice amount of salt on them a solid 8/10. Now normally I get my burgers plain but because RHR has a special house made sauce, I ordered it with some sauce only. The wifey had hers with everything. I loved the smash version of a burger. It tasted soooo homemade! Very, very good! The sauce wasn't bad. It tasted like Big Mac sauce ALMOST! I went here before seeing a show at Schubas on a foggy, dreary, Gotham-esque night, fog creeping in while heavy droplets of rain splattered and made metallic clangs on steel beams and banisters. I got a cheeseburger and fries for eight dollars flat. I said nothing and devoured the food in approximately the same time it took them to make. I was sheepish. Serene. It was almost like an out of body experience. And after I let it sit for just a minute, looking up at the television just above to see Söderblom in goal, again, this newfound serenity and solace I'd found had quickly evaporated, before I'd even had the time to process such emotional bliss. Red hot ranch is a nice and cheap local fast food joint that is a lot better than most chain fast food options. Good for any time of day and they're open late. They have a pretty simple indoor set up as they have the counter, the grill set up behind it, some seating in the restaurant and they also have an ATM since they are a cash only establishment. On their menu they have their Red hot ranch burgers, fries, hotdogs, fried shrimp, a cod sandwich and finally milk shakes. I got their double red hot ranch cheese burger with their cheese fries. The burger was greasy, double patties smash burger, with their special sauce, onions, tomato and lettuce. Presentation wise it may be a greasy mess of a burger but taste wise it's honestly really solid. The fries aren't the prettiest either but you can tell they were freshly cut and hot when they came out. All I can say is go to red hot ranch. It's a good deal to be able to get a burger, fries, and a drink for close to $10 now a days. read more

Wow. I never thought I would say this, but this is one of the best burgers I've had. Ever. Looking at the exterior of the joint, this is not the kind of place I would ever stop by and walk in our of curiosity. It just looks very average. I was super skeptical when my brother told me this place had great reviews online. No offense to the owner, but it looks like every other crappy burger joint in Chicago. But. This place had a burger that brought me back to Inn-n-Out in California. The burger is smashed, well seasoned, has this delicious thousand island style sauce. The lettuce is crisp and fresh, and the tomatoes are great. It's not just any burger, it's worth its pound in gold. And it's under $5 with fries. Maybe under $7 if you get the double cheeseburger. Red Hot Ranch the name gives me a picture of some sort of dressing made up from ranch and Franks Red Hot sauce. This shows you I am a west coast guy just visiting Chicago. I honestly was just driving by this place and thought it would be a good chance to try it while I was waiting for my son to get off from work. Tide me over. The burger and fries combo was pretty darn good and totally worth getting, especially for the price point. It's a quick-serve place so I just grabbed my food and ate in the car. Don't tell my son. Ridiculously good value burger in an ocean of angus boondoggles, Red Hot Ranch is the realest Chicago burger joint for a few reasons: 1. Most affordable in the city, like our city is the most affordable big city in the US. 2. Price to flavor ratio is unbeatable. 3. Fries are manually cranked out right in front of you. 4. Cash only with an ATM right there in front of where you order. 5. The quickness. The only reason it doesn't have 5 stars is because there's no such thing as a perfect burger. They are fresh cut, skin on and aren't par boiled, so if that's not your thing don't get fries. - If you're enjoying a wild night out on the town and then decide to break your organic-gluten-free-vegetarian diet at 3am with a deliciously greasy bag of sumptuousness. .. your tummy might not like you anymore. It DOES NOT mean you have food poisoning. That's a very specific illness cause by bacteria. Sometimes certain foods just don't agree with your body, especially greasy food on the late night. I hate to even mention that term in a review, but food poisoning is wildly overused on Yelp. Just like "hidden gem" OR "I really wanted to like this place, but..." OR "this is better than Au Cheval" OR "I wish I could give this place zero stars". Phew, now that I got that off my chest... As far as short-order burgers go, this is my favorite. I've been wanting to try this place since moving to Chicago since multiple people on here said it reminded them of an In N Out Burger, plus they are open pretty late. I called them before arriving for a take out order. They told me it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. I got there around that time, and it was just prepared and ready as I showed up. One thing that was unfortunate is no one on the phone told me this place is CASH ONLY, and living in 2022, it would be nice to be told this as so many people now do not carry cash on them. I love the cheap prices of the food here, but because I had to take money out of the ATM, it charged me to take money out, and I'm sure my own bank charged me to take out $$ from an out-of-network ATM. I saw the Hot Dog Ranch on "Check Please" and wanted to try the double cheeseburger and their fresh-cut fries. I had lunch there recently but wasn't that happy with the overall taste of the cheeseburger, it had what I would term a "pasty taste" not what I was expecting. Although the ingredients were fresh and crispy and there was a good amount of "secret sauce" it missed the mark for me. I could taste the carmelized beef patties, cheese, and the crunchiness of the fries but it didn't have a distinct sauce taste. The staff is friendly and will have your order done in no time. Just moved a block away from RHR, and this is a very, very dangerous thing. You'll find their burger on many lists as the top burger in Chicago, and it's definitely a contender - it's not a gourmet sandwich, but something super solid at a fair price. Definitely reminiscent of In-N-Out, but better thanks to the crisp char they get on their smash burgers. Better fries too (well every single restaurant in the world has better fries than In-N-Out), and if you really want to put your body on the line, get a side of Merkt's cheese to go with it. Just keep in mind that pretty much any order comes with a generous amount of fries, so don't go nuts ordering even more fries. I'm not super into the depression dog style, but they have it if you're a fan (like a Chicago dog without tomato and with fries). Just remember it's cash only, but the prices are all set up so with tax, your change will be in quarters. Gotta love that! I ordered the RHR double cheeseburger & fries. Partner chose a hot dog & fries. Burger was ooey-gooey-cheesy and juicy, yet had that crisp edge that a good smash burger has. Fries were piping hot-- fresh out the fryer. The hot dog was (of course) Vienna Beef and had a wonderful snap to it. Love that they have areas to stand and eat inside for a quick on the go bite. We have a burger joint in Seattle called Dick's, and the food at the Red Hot Ranch reminded me of that. We had the RHR double cheeseburger and fries. The burger was juicy with all the toppings and a nice, soft bun. The fries were fresh cut with the skin on, super crispy. My husband had a chocolate shake, which wasn't that great. So looking forward to hot dog and fries. I live on the Southside so on bus I saw RHR. It was the worst hot dog I have had in my like. I am 64 yrs old. I went to the counter and showed the guy this horrible hot dog. You don't think this looks bad? Touch it it's hard and dry. Response was huh?? Another guy comes along he says something to him. What's the problem? This hot dog is horrible. The bun... Response again huh? I said is this normal? Maybe it's me. Oh do you want another one? Nope and threw it all in the garbage. I was more upset about the response. Then I thought let me contact RHR on their website. Sent it a few days ago and no response at all. I thought it was just the employees that did not care at all. A really good place to grab food at night (especially after some drinking if you know what I mean)! I could only imagine how crowded it gets here later in the day. There are some parking spaces on the side but if not, you can probably find something in the neighborhood. Lots of greasy burgers and hot dogs options to choose from but we ended up getting the double hot dog and fries. The hot dogs were pretty generic with some onions, relish, and peppers. Fries were kinda crispy which was great for me. It can get a little messy but it's all good! Maybe I'll give the burgers a try next time. Note that this place is cash only. So a longtime Chicagoan took me here since I am less than a week from moving out of the city. I've had a couple burger places reserved for my final meals and while he said the burgers were really good here, he also said that I should get a hot dog while I still can. (Now that I am remembering, he *did* mention "depression dog" at some point, but I thought it was gonna be a Chi dog) So the "depression dog" is like a Chi style, but comes sans tomato slices and pickle, and has a bunch of soggy fries thrown in with it. Was pretty bummed out about this poor choice on my behalf and should've listened to my gut. Now I have to get an actual Chicago style hotdog elsewhere before I leave. Is this the best burger I've ever had? No. But it's a great smash burger at a really great value. Frankly I think the quality outweighs the cost and would gladly come back whenever I'm nearby. Their fries were hot and crisp, with the skin! And the burger was crispy on the edges like a proper smash burger should be.
