Decided to drop in and check out Yin yoga. The storefront is choked full of yoga gear, and accessories. The staff was super warm and friendly. Since it was my inaugural visit, they supplied me with a hand towel and a large one. I wasn't sure why I needed that as I brought my yoga mat and water. I didn't realize the studio was heated. Duh!!! bikram hot yoga was just ending. The space was pretty big and dimly lit, creating quite an intimate atmosphere. The season featured Groovalicious music, putting all in a relaxed mood. Not to mention the candles the instructor lite ahead of starting the season. I didn't know what the heck I was doing but the poses were easy enough to pick up using blocks and supplied strap. Very similar to Kaiut yoga which is exactly what I was hoping for. More restorative, with most poses held longer allowing the focus on breathing and posture. I also understand why thy supplied a towel to cover your mat. While not stifling hot, it was very easy to work up a sweat. It was obvious after the session my body missed yoga practice in a studio with expert instruction. So of course I signed up to continue visiting at least 2 times a week. read more

I really wanted to like this place and have been debating writing this review for a while. I LOVE yoga. I've been doing it consistently for 10 years. I love all kinds, I'm reasonably athletic, and I usually enjoy finding a local studio I can attend classes at 1-2x a week. This studio seemed perfect. Nearby, good assortment of classes, beautiful facility. I tried at least 10 classes. The vibes... are just off. Teachers don't greet you or talk to you if you're new. It feels very cliquey. There's clearly regulars (which is fine!) but every time I went, I actually left feeling more stressed out then when I came due to the coldness of the place and lack of welcome of the people. read more

RDY is a fantastic place for beginners and experienced yogi's. I represent a smaller minority of male participants. And always felt welcome by not only the staff but the wider community as well. A fantastic place for couples workouts too. Bathrooms are well maintained. Overall experience is clean, safe, enthusiastic, and warm (pun intended!). Best hot yoga experience in Marin. read more

I have been a member of Red Dragon for a few years. Love this place. The support staff is always helpful and friendly. The instructors are excellent. I started doing only yoga here, but showed up to a pilates class by mistake and am now hooked on pilates. This studio has been so impactful for me. After my son was born 4 years ago I'd really let my body and practice go, and this is exactly what I needed. I've lost nearly 40 lbs, and am back to my pre-child weight. More than that, though, my energy level is back to normal and all the weird aches and joint pains I'd been having are history. :) Your classes and teachers are top-notch. And I say this from experience (and not to toot my horn, but to give you guys credit): I have nearly 20 years of yoga experience and a 200 hr YTT cert of my own, so I'm really clear about my likes and dislikes in a yoga studio. First, I love that you have a 12pm heated vinyasa class daily. That one-hour blast at lunch time is the perfect reset for the rest of my day, and the fact that it's offered every day allows so much freedom to build a schedule that works for me. Other heated studios tend to emphasize Bikram only (not my favorite flavor of yoga), and even the ones that do have heated vinyasa are usually only offered sporadically, and at odd times throughout the week. Your teachers also deserve tremendous praise. Heather delivers that slow, mindful burn. Her depth of practice and study of yoga is palpable, and provides a lovely & self-connecting experience. Ed is really fun and light. His pacing and flows are balanced, classes varied and enjoyable. And Liv's joyful energy brings encouragement and sweetness, even as she invites you into challenge. She's also got a gift for matching music to class pacing, which offers welcome variation from playlists which are almost all house beats (not that I dislike house! I just love Liv's capacity for taking a class through its own "vinyasa" of sorts: starting slow, moving into intensity, then finishing serenely). Thank you so much for having such a great space and crew. I am sadly going to be moving out of the area in the next week or so, but will definitely continue my membership on zoom and crank the space heater when I practice, as no one else can touch what you guys do!! read more

I hate to be giving Red Dragon a negative review, as it was my go-to spot for years. The teachers and front desk peeps are great and lovely. This review is in response to the temperature and lack of response from the owner, Stephanie. Over the past few months, the temperature of the studio has steadily decreased. There are ceiling fans in the studio, which are now routinely turned on, blowing cold air throughout the room. This is a *hot* yoga studio and the heat used to be great! But the cold air flow changes everything, and I barely broke a sweat the last few classes I took. Other people have noticed as well. I emailed Stephanie over two months ago and still haven't heard anything. The nice women at the front desk confirmed she received the email. I canceled my membership last month and explained it was due to the lack of heat, and there has still been no response. Definitely disappointing. read more

I had a Wonderful Bikram practice today with Heather. I hadn't practiced in a while so her pacing and style were perfect for me to get back into the flow. I usually take both Bikram and Power yoga classes with Heather and because she has such great intuition and sequencing I always feel taken care of and exhausted all at the same time. Red Dragon has always had such great teachers and Heather is a gem! I still love this studio, and I'm not here to trash them, but I just felt I needed to update my previous review and give a bit of a PSA to others who are thinking of returning to in-person group exercise... THEY ARE NOT ENFORCING THE MASK MANDATE. In fact, they're not even enforcing their own non-mask policy, which is that students need to submit a copy of their vaccination card if they want to go without a mask. I recently started going back to group classes in person, and the first couple that I went to at Red Dragon had pretty low attendance, so I wasn't alarmed that no one was wearing a mask (we were all really spread out), and I assumed there must have been an exemption for fitness studios that I wasn't aware of. Well, I went back to a few more classes (specifically 10:30am hot pilates) and they were packed AND no one was wearing masks. They definitely were not limiting attendance because people continued coming in after class started and everyone had to move around to make space. I could have easily reached out and touched the people next to me. I reached out them about this, and they let me know that they have their own policy wherein people have to provide proof of vaccination if they want to take their masks off... ummmmmm I'd been going for a few weeks and no one had asked me to see my vaccination card...? I then looked into the mandate itself and it specifically states that the mask mandate applies regardless of vaccination status. The only exemption applies to indoor water sports. I emailed them again last week regarding the fact that they are not exempt, and they haven't responded to me. I honestly just expected better from them. The new mask mandate is meant to protect vulnerable people who can't be vaccinated, and this is a time when we can choose to be either part of the problem or part of the solution. Their choice is pretty clear here. I gave birth while wearing a mask back in January, so forgive me for not being able to relate to people who feel that they are incapable of complying with this pretty reasonable law! read more

Went back to my first hot power yoga class today in San Rafael studio. I am so glad I went and felt amazing afterwards! I took Lori's 9am class and it was the perfect balance to get me back into a hot studio with a mask!! I felt really welcome and super comfortable! Tips: make a reservation ahead, come a bit early, and wear a disposable mask they are easier to breathe while working out. read more

I am not a review person, but I've been thinking about how much I appreciate this place and how I should express it. It's been a constant in my life for probably ten or so years. Funny enough, I still look and feel like a beginner, but what I've enjoyed is the way it makes me feel every time. It's simple. I don't need to do anything to be involved besides showing up on time. I come, try my best, and I get physical benefit and mental rejuvenation. I've been going regularly all this time and it's done so much for me each and every time I go. I've been around the Marin yoga block quite a few times and this joint is easily my fave. I regret that I only discovered it a few months ago when my previous yoga home imploded. They have a variety of great classes; Bikram yoga, Power yoga and inferno hot Pilates. I've never been to a class that wasn't excellent. Laura, Jill, Ed, Ivo and Anna are all wonderful teachers. Much better consistency in quality than the other studios I've been to. The yoga and changing rooms are clean and everyone who works there seems nice. It's also pretty affordable in general and to top it off they send me class specials fairly regularly. Nice app as well for reviewing the schedule and booking classes. Red dragon has saved my life a thousand times over mentally & emotionally in so many ways. I could not be more grateful for all the years of camels, downward dogs and dancer poses, with some of the most authentic & motivating teachers. I first started practicing 20yrs ago, I was 26 & there was only Bikram on the schedule. Today was my very first class back on the mat since March 15 2020. I moved out of Marin to Sf before the pandemic and it was hard to find a studio that compared. Red Dragon is the full package- Fantastic teachers, great classes, heat- "& Im talking like real HEAT", showers, sparkling clean environment. Can we talk about the floors ! Oh ya, and filtered water! You would be suprised how many yoga studios dont offer a water filter station. Thank you, for thinking of us! One last thing I think is so great RD does that most places have stopped over the years is, Red Dragon is one of very few places that will assist and actually help stretch you to go deeper into your practice. I don't do yoga very often and can be quite self conscious with working out in groups. However, trying their 30 days unlimited yoga deal for $30 off of Groupon was very worth it! I like Red Dragon yoga and most of the instructors there. I really love how there is a variety of age groups here. I've been to a few different types of gyms, classes, exercise groups and a lot of these places in Marin will have older clientele. So it's nice that Red Dragon can support all ages and I've seen teenagers there, young adults, mature people, and much more mature people there. Great environment! CONS: - I wish they would clean the floor between classes, even if it's a quick swipe of the floor with antibacterial solution because there is always a lot of sweat (it is hot yoga). You can see pools of sweat from other people in the previous class and if you are lucky as I am, might even get to step on one of those pools (yes, I'm being sarcastic). - bathroom area can be small, after classes they get jam packed! Getting in line to grab your stuff or use the facilities can be worse than rush hour traffic on a Friday. PROS: - Very modern facilities. - clean, for the most part. - they have water, yoga clothes, mats, and towel for sale if you ever need it or forget to bring something. - bathroom and storage area are clean. - they have showers - they have free parking - staff are generally pretty friendly - most instructors are fantastic. I mainly went to Jill T.'s and Becca S.'s class because of timing and I have to say they make yoga for newbies very fun, engaging, and most of all, make us feel like we are capable of pushing ourselves. They don't judge, say anything mean or discouraging and are very warm hearted people. I went to other instructors' classes there but didn't always feel welcomed in their class for whatever reason. I've been seeing some negative reviews about an instructor name Karen. I haven't seen her or taken her class but I'm glad I never did because her attitude would probably deter me from Red Yoga all together (if what the other comments about her say are true). However, I can't really judge but I do know that with people trying to improve their health, you shouldn't make fun of them or make rude remarks to them, especially if we just want build ourselves in a peaceful environment. read more

What a wonderful spot. I have never done yoga in my life, but my friend Janel recommended this place and I showed up on a Friday at lunchtime to the most incredible teacher Anna K. and a super friendly and welcoming staff. It was already 97 degrees outside and I wasn't sure if hot yoga was gonna be a great idea, but I couldn't have been happier that I came. The instructor gave spot on detailed instructions on how to approach each movement and was right there beside me the whole time. Very encouraging. non-judgy, and fun environment! Will definitely be back another Friday at lunchtime if I can get ahead with my work!!!! read more

I just recently moved to Marin from the city and it is the very best! The studio is clean, well kept and all around very inviting. The staff is professional, accommodating and warm. They have a bunch of great teachers and they offer a nice mix of classes that you won't grow tired of! When I arrive for class I am most often greeted by name and I know for certain that by classes end I will be leaving rejuvenated, peaceful and ready to take on whatever I am faced with in my day. I came here with my roommate after someone recommended it to her. They have a great introductory $10 for 10 day class offer, so we really had nothing to lose by going to check it out. The website is great and made it really easy to find available classes and sign up with ease. The building is pretty easy to get to in downtown San Rafael, and there's even a parking lot in the back (though it was already full when we got there). The studio was clean and bright and had a lovely vibe to it. THE ROOM IS HOT!! I think tonights class was 99 degrees. This is fine and all, if you like this style of yoga. It's not my personal favorite, but they do it well so that's fine. The class we went to was led by Christian, he had a soothing voice and a kept a good pace throughout the class. I liked that he taught with words rather that constantly adjusting everyone's positions, I think that is a great teaching style because I didn't feel like he was judging or being hypercritical. I'm looking forward to coming back here for my remaining 9 day trials. :) read more

I went to this studio to try one of their classes. Nowhere on their website does it show that the power yoga they offer is in an untraditional 100-degree temperature room. The standard is 90 degrees. After I arrived, they told me the class was "hot." I said, "yes, I expected it to be 90." They then told me it is actually 100. I gave them my $30 and said I would try it. After only 5-10 minutes, I walked out and said I could not do it and would like a refund. They did not give me one. They didn't have an introductory special like most studios that don't charge for the first class, or they charge a VERY reduced rate. It is pretty apparent that they have a few loyal followers and have no desire to appeal to a larger crowd. Any owner that doesn't try to work with customers shouldn't be an owner. I do not recommend this place and will be sure to let every person I run into avoid it. read more

Just when I thought Red Dragon Yoga could not get any better--I went to my first Hot Pilates Class. Omg. So amazing. So fun. Every class and every teacher is wonderful at Red Dragon but this class was super fun. I also just signed up for yoga teacher training. One of my friends that is a very famous yoga teacher told me: "Red Dragon is the the best of the best." I feel so honored to be a part of the first yoga teacher training. Red Dragon has classes for every level and every person feels welcome, supported and believe me--walks out of the studio feeling better than ever! She embarrasses students in front of the whole class with indirect stories about her very particular dislikes. I've been to several classes and have been put off every time by the complete and total lack of reverence for what yoga really is. Here they just do physical movements without even recognizing the spiritual aspect of yoga. The absolute WTF moment though was when our instructor, towards the end of class explained why shavasana (corpse pose) was the most important pose (very true) and how important it was that we stay for shavasana- and then grabs her stuff and says she's going to go hit the showers! Absolutely unbelievable- I have never ever had a teacher leave before the class was actually over so she could get a shower in- thereby completely disrupting the container she supposedly had created by not ending class properly. Not that these guys care about that- they don't at all. This place feels like it is totally lacking in any soul at all....just serving up one component of a completely bastardized form of a practice that is thousands of years old. read more

Such a great space and convenient location . I had been looking forward to going there for really long time. Finally bought a one-month pass and showed up on a weekday evening. Wow, could not have been any less welcoming. No community vibe. The instructor, some guy, was completely disengaged... Don't know if he was arrogant or just bored? He did pay a lot of attention to one first-time student, correcting her poses... Everyone else was completely ignored. As a new student, I would have loved some help, especially since he was not demonstrating any poses - he was just describing them verbally. As I was leaving, I got to hear him make disparaging remarks to the person at the front desk about having all these new students in the class... As others have commented, so much of what I encountered here is so counter to the spirit of yoga. Perhaps I will try to attend one of Barbara's classes since everyone here has raved about her before I write them off? Not sure... read more

Great Location. Excellent cadre of instructors. One large room with space for packing the classes out. Ample street parking. Plenty of storage shelves for all your accessories. A generally un-egotistical, unassuming, nice clientele to share your class with. Nice water filter for filling your container before/after class. I actually had another review of Red Dragon but after being to other studios, i had to come back and change it. Initially I thought RDY to be the best, but here's some places they miss the mark: The music: The instructors play the same music, over and over again...all of them. I practiced there for eight months and began to hear things on repeat- to the point where I sometimes wince when I hear one of those songs. Please invest in Rhapsody, Pandora, or whatever your preference and switch it up! The instructors tend not to be hands on. The only exception to this is Christopher who is phenomenal, and I miss his classes dearly. We all could use that extra push, correction of form, whatever it may be and I never felt like that attention to detail was there. Maybe I'm not that memorable but i got asked all the time if i was a new student, even though I frequented RDY 3x/wk for the eight months i was there. The instructors also tend to be pretty indifferent towards you if you're not performing one legged arm-balances and twisting yourself into crazy moves. Just cause I'm not advanced at my practice doesn't mean i don't want to get there. I told four different instructors I was leaving to move to the East Bay and not once did i get a "good luck" or "we'll miss you." Guess I'm a bit sensitive there. The facilities: My previous review had stated that the vents in the back were dusty and it sat on Yelp for months, and yet the vents are still dusty. I feel like a lot of investment went into getting this studio open, but there's less emphasis on maintaining it. Also, I'm not sure if it's "traditional" or not but humidity is really, really nice to counteract the dry heat. As yoga studios go this one is OK, and I wish them good luck in the new year. read more

From the moment you walk in the door, there is happy healthy energy. Not too serious. Friendly and playful. You can work as hard as you like or take breaks during class. Love the padded floors. Makes you more inclined to try harder poses. read more

I just completed my first class at Red Dragon. Barbara, who I understand was subbing this morning, is awesome. She leads a great paced class that is sure to invigorate. She teachers an athletic hot vinyasa class, but made sure to incorporate special attention to breath, body awareness, and built in lovely self-reflection moments throughout the practice. It was a beautiful balance of the "hard" and the "soft" which brings us back to our mats time and time again. I do a lot of hot yoga and I cannot get over how great the air quality is in this studio. A bikram class had just finished minutes before our class, and while the room was still hot and steamy, it did not smell at all like a class had just finished. In fact, within a few minutes of setting down my mat before class, the air had completely re-circulated and was no longer super moist. They use a powerful heating and air circulation system which made the whole class so fresh and enjoyable while maintaining great heat. The community seemed to know each other well. There were a few people that gave me smiles and noticed that I was new to the studio. I thought that was nice. I will definitely be back soon! read more

I attended Barbara M.'s handstand workshop a few weeks back and a few yoga classes as well at RDY. Wow! I'm a YA CYT and I've always had issues with handstand. No more :) I've now integrated handstand into my daily practice and am still in awe every time I successfully go up ~ Barbara really helped me to understand the asana and overcome my fears about it. I've been through several teacher trainings and no one has made this pose seem so attainable or helped me successfully achieve it until now. Thank you Barbara M. & thank RDY!!! All the classes I took at this studio were exceptionally challenging & I was blissed out after each one. The studio is gorgeous ~ the padded floor, the high ceilings, the natural lighting, the locker rooms, the boutique... everything!!! I will be back ~ a lot! read more
