I had such a great experience at this barre workout class! The overall vibe was really nice, and the music had a perfect tone -- upbeat enough to keep you motivated but still calming and focused. You do have to wear Pilates socks, so make sure to bring a pair. Parking is easy, but I recommend getting there a little earlier since it's located near Trader Joe's and other businesses, so the area can get a bit busy. The staff were all very kind and welcoming, and the studio itself was super clean and well maintained. What I really enjoyed about this class is that while you definitely feel the burn and get sore (in the best way!), the instructor made sure we stretched multiple times throughout -- at least three different stretch moments during class. I am OBSESSED with Pure Barre San Rafael. I had done a class here years ago and didn't love it, but fast forward two different owners and it is a whole different place. The minute you walk in, you are greeted and everyone is SO friendly. PB San Rafael is my new community. Lots of class offerings so it's easy to find a time that fits with my work schedule. Super clean location, the space is welcoming and just makes my day better when I walk in. The instructors are also top notch! I can't stop raving about PB San Rafael. I started with the 8 classes per month and ended up switching to the unlimited membership before my first month was over, and that was one of my best decisions. About 7 years ago I was looking through the window of Pure Barre, watching my girlfriend and our two grown daughters, seemingly doing very little, and I'm thinking "what's so hard about that?" When I mentioned that to them after class, one of them said with a grin, "ok then, why don't you try it?" As a competitive swimmer, I thought "piece of cake!", and signed up for my first class. Talk about a humbling experience. Every muscle in my body was tired, but I was hooked! I find it a great balance to my swimming, and I really think more guys should try it! I've been coming to the San Rafael studio for almost 7yrs now and it's my absolute favorite workout. I've worked out my whole life from running, to weights, to pilates to yoga. And I just find I always have the best time at Pure Barre and notice the best results. The teachers are all amazing! They are uplifting and go out of their way to help make sure your form is correct and always give you different options if you have an injury. I was able to do mostly everything pregnant and even if I couldn't they gave me another exercise during that time. As a paying client and new Pure Barre attendee looking for an uplifting community, I am sorely disappointed by the way the owner/manager Denise speaks to clients here. She has been consistently rude and condescending the multiple times I've come, as I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. However, I will not be coming back here. The other instructors here are amazing, it's a shame the owner/manager doesn't hold herself with the same kindness, client focus, and sense of customer service. read more

I've had injuries and other issue arise along the way, and many of the Pure Barre instructors are quite knowledgable about physiology and can offer ways to modify exercises to accommodate just about any injuries or special circumstances--making for an awesome, personally tailored workout! read more

It's been a month now since I enrolled here. I took Madeline's Empower class today and it was excellent. Madeline was very skilled at communicating modifications and providing adjustments when needed. My only two small tweaks to this studio is to have mirrors on both sides so you monitor your posture, etc. Also, the music is a little loud sometimes and you can't hear the instructions (even with headsets on the teachers). Overall, I'm glad I found 3 instructors I like so much: Denise, Rachel and Madeline. ALSO, a shout out to Jordan who was so helpful and encouraging when I signed up. read more

I love Pure Barre San Rafael. The teachers are all great and Shannon, the owner, is kind and thoughtful. From outside, it seems like a small studio, but the actual barre room is large and the space is well thought out. The workouts are challenging, but they'll accommodate and work with your injuries. It feels like a more advanced workout than Bar Method, but they have "Breaking Down the Barre" classes where they explain the moves in more detail. In all, this is a great studio and I've enjoyed every workout. read more

I went to the foundations class since I have never taken a class here. I was very impressed with the studio itself and the instructors. Victoria taught the class and I was the only one which was perfect for a first timer. Samantha was at the front desk and also extremely helpful in talking about the studio and the methodology. I essentially had a private lesson. I am 69 years old and have been doing Bikram yoga for 12 years. I am in relatively good shape for my age. I've also had bilateral hip and bilateral shoulder replacements as well as spinal surgeries. During the class I had to make modifications since I am advised to not have full weight bearing on my shoulders. It was a challenging class. I expect to be very sore tomorrow. I am evaluating whether barre is in my best interest given my body. I can say the practice and what I saw was impressive. I recommend you check it out for yourself. read more

I tried the unlimited month over ~2 years ago at this studio. Back then I was pretty new to working out and it was my first barre class ever so I was unbelievably sore after every class. I loved it but I couldn't really afford the full price classes back then and besides I was going to urban/hip hop dance classes 3-4x a week so I decided to focus on dance instead. I tried two different barre studios in Berkeley - the bar method and pure barre Berkeley, but I didn't feel as challenged as I did at this studio. The bar method had much easier workout and there was not much variations between each class. Pure barre Berkeley was better than the bar method but still didn't feel as challenging as classes here. I've taken classes with Regan, Shannon, Denise, Rachel, and few others I can't remember the name of. I started going to this studio again recently because I couldn't find a studio with instructors as good (and I can actually afford to spoil myself a bit now!). I drive all the way from east bay just to come to classes. I was very impressed with Regan's classes in particular. Out of 5-6 classes I took with her, each one was very different and challenging. I've only taken few classes of others so it's hard to really review them in depth, but I thought all instructors were top notch and they were very technical. I was dancing 5-10 hours per week over a year ago but had to stop for a long time due to getting rashes every time I do intense cardio.... I'm slowly getting back to working out and dancing again trying not to irritate my skin and barre is a perfect workout for me, since it's very low impact. I'm also hoping that it'll help me execute my dance moves better with stronger core and legs. It's nice to balance dance with barre as they seem to complement each other. Overall, highly recommend this studio and I hope they keep up the quality of the instructors! read more

I've been coming to Pure Barre at San Rafael for 4 years now. I love all the teachers! They have slightly different approaches and keep you from getting bored. They explain each step in details very well. It's 55 min workout and you essentially workout every single muscle of your body. I see results and I love Pure Barre! I am 25 days into my first month with 12 classes under my belt. I have religiously ran, worked out at the gym or a kickboxing class for the last two decades 3-5 times a week and have never see results like this! The Pure Barre website says you'll see results in 10 sessions. For me it was about four before I noticed my pants fitting like never before. I've always been a bulky muscle kind of girl. I never thought that what I was doing for exercise contributed to my shape. To see my body changing is amazing and inspiring. Pure Barre is a very challenging workout, especially in the beginning when you don't have the experience that you can actually make it through the challenge. I love that it pushes me more than I get from other sources or on my own. I leave the studio each time feeling great about what I've done for my body and myself. While a majority of each session is standard Pure Barre each instructor has a few different moves to make your experience unique. I love that the instructor schedule is constantly rotating so that you can get a different experience without having to change your schedule. I should add that I am someone who is more than a bit on the frugal side. The fact that I am willing to pay the cost of these classes says a lot for what I think about Pure Barre San Rafael. read more

This place is awesome!!! After doing the one month unlimited I am hooked. I have always practiced yoga, but in the past have tried pilates and other barre classes. Nothing else has made me feel as strong and given me the results as Pure Barre. I've done a bunch of Pure Barre classes before in NYC but there is something unique to this studio. It's so clean and inviting! I felt at home immediately upon walking in. Pure Barre is one of the best workouts you can get. If you want results to tone up quickly in those problem areas, then this is the technique for you. I have been coming to the San Rafael Pure Barre location for about 2 years now. I took a small break during the end of my second pregnancy and am back to get my pre baby body back! I can't say enough good things about the workout and the instructors! First, the workout really does work. It is low impact but high results. I have bad knees from too many marathons and this definitely gives me the burn w/out the pain. I am seeing and feeling my hard work pay off! I have been taking ballet barre type classes for at least 6 years now. I started with Bar Method and have also tried Dailey Method, Fluidity Barre, Barre 3, and Core Fusion. I was truly impressed with Pure Barre. The moves are challenging, fast paced and made me really break a sweat. I was pretty devoted to doing Bar Method for years, but I think this may have converted me to sticking with this method as my main fitness routine. What I liked the best about the class was only two other students were attending the 7 am class and it felt like a private class. The teacher was nice and knowledgeable; however, I felt we would benefit from more instructions. I have taken barre classes in past but half of the time in her class I felt I wasn't sure I'm doing the pose she wants us to do, and it was apparent that the rest of students were confused as well since every one was doing a different pose. Amazing and challenging workouts. Each class is a little different, even if the instructor is the same, which makes all the difference for me. You'll work hard and feel sore, but it's worth it. Small class sizes are great, you never feel packed into the space. The instructors always take a bit more time with new people for good form. I was surprised how quickly they learned my name and started calling out encouraging remarks. Bouncing back from baby #2 has been hard. My friend introduced me to Pure Barre and the results have been amazing. It's difficult to get away to exercise, so a 1 hour class is exactly what I needed. It works all the key areas that need toning after having a baby; arms, legs, butt and most importantly your core. All the instructors are so encouraging which makes it a pleasure to come to class. Everyone is super welcoming which has been nice as getting back into shape can be an intimating process. I feel great every time I leave and have seen a difference in my body after just a few classes. I would recommend Pure barre to anyone who is looking for a highly efficient, tough workout that can tone and strengthen your body. LOVE PURE BARRE SAN RAFAEL! I have done barre classes at other studios and tried other methods (Bar Method, etc.), but this studio is by far the best I've ever been to. The studio itself is gorgeous, the instructors and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, and the classes kick your butt and are totally addictive! After just a couple of months I can see and feel a major difference in muscle tone, strength, flexibility, etc. Some of my favorite things: The classes fly by because of the fun music they play. Even though the classes are challenging, I always leave feeling refreshed and energized. The instructors are so friendly and totally willing to answer questions and to help new students feel comfortable and confident. One last thing: they have the cutest selection of workout/lounge clothes for sale at the studio! It's always fun to do a little shopping (or just looking) before or after class. I just signed up for a year of classes (you get charged monthly for 12 months at a reduced rate). It's the best deal by far and makes the classes truly affordable. I am new and I wish the teacher take the time in begin each class to teacher us about the poses !!They start right way with the class wit out asking if any one new in class ...and I notes a lots people were doing wrong bc she keep correcting them that means we r not doing right!!Talking about cleaning the place base board and carpet is never clean enough because my socks and clothes get duty there ...I think Shannon should have the place much more cleaner for us since we are the 1 are pay for her to keep with her studio open ..Shannon please wipe of the dusty from the those 2 fans it look like never been clean ....and the bands they say they spray something to disinfects it that is great ...every time we grab them they are full of dusty and hair...question regarding the 1 wipe to clean the mat do you think it is a enough to clean it ?I been doing research about it..we can get germs from person to person if is not sanitize..Don't take me wrong just trying to help ..., read more

I took classes with Maddie and Nina and they both are so friendly and patient with me/teaching me the correct form!
