I really enjoy Embrace Yoga for what it is. I only do restorative yoga here through Class Pass, and I am happy to report that, thus far, no one has pressured me to sign up for a monthly membership or to spend a bunch of money I do not have. The young lady who checks me in is very respectful and chill. There are a number of coat racks and cubbies for shoes near the front entrance. There are two restrooms--one in the main lobby area and one accessible from the work out room. They sell some pretty expensive gear, and after your first session, you have to pay to rent a yoga mat if you do not bring your own. (It's like $2 or $3 each time.) There is usually hot tea available before and after the class. There is ample parking, but this is also one of my main gripes. The floor-to-ceiling windows here can be a real drag because, inevitably, someone comes or goes from the shopping center (at the corner of Del Ganado and Freitas) such that their headlights are flashing you in the face in the middle of what should be a calm, meditative experience. There isn't a great place to position your mat where you will not meet with someone's headlights. Bummer! Also, the classes can get super overcrowded at times, and some people have no problem extending and bending in ways that totally encroach on my personal space bubble. That said, I love the instructors who teach restorative yoga, and I love the Sunday evening time slot. If I had more time, I would take more classes there. read more

A couple of my favorite yoga instructors from San Francisco and Marin teach here. I wanted to check it out since it is also closer to home. I visited for the first time a few months ago. I decided to try out new instructors. So far I have taken two weekend morning classes. Unfortunately, both classes were underwhelming. Perhaps it was the type of class I took? The instructors were both very nice and knowledgeable. Perhaps 8am classes at Embrace Yoga are generally on the sleepier side? In both classes, there were 2-3 students total. The studio itself is located in/on the edge of a parking lot. I don't really notice this because I have taken the morning classes when there aren't too many people driving around or parking. There is a restroom to your right as you enter, with a small area for your coat and shoes. There is a reception area to your left before one heads into the class area. As you enter the class area, it is bright with natural light that comes through the large windows. The walls and light fixtures are painted white. It really opens up the space. Despite my disappointment with recent classes, I plan on returning to see what other classes and instructors are like. To be continued... read more

I love this little gem of a studio. Bright space, good selection and use of props for poses. Kind, patient instructors that stress a proper pose vs speed and power. Music is calm, the restorative classes are aptly named, and I've enjoyed all of them. I felt very much at home there after a short period of time. All the classes have been very worthwhile and I'm glad I found this spot. I went right from my groupon to buying a class card, but its worth noting, no one pressures you to buy, just enjoy! Only suggestion, some blinds for the skylight and windows for the summer. read more

Absolutely beautiful little studio, never crowded, great classes. If you're looking for power yoga or heated rooms, this is not it. If you're looking for more traditional Hatha and Vinyasa practices tailored toward all age groups, this is your place. This is a jewel of a yoga studio! The proprietor is very kind and welcoming. The Core Balance Yoga class taught by Clara Grey is fun, energetic, and calming. Clara's teaching style is wonderful! She shows care and compassion for her students. This small, clean and beautiful studio is an oasis of calm and serenity in Marin County. But when I do.... I have been to Sara Hess's yoga class at Embrace Yoga, a number of times, and every time was different and wonderful in its own way. I consider her one of the best yoga teachers I have ever had. Each class, she introduces new poses, takes us at different speeds and flow. She challenges us and is constantly working with her students to align each one and give everyone individual attention in a very delicate manner. She doesn't go too fast or too slow, and she can sense when the class has pushed it as far as they can go and then eases up at the exact appropriate time. I also absolutely love it when we are in Shavasana, she will occasionally come by and work your muscles and make sure your body is fully relaxed. It's that extra touch, that provides the warmth and nurture which goes a long way. I can't wait for the next class! read more

I loved the yoga studio in San Rafael! It is clean, white and bright. Peaceful. I went for a gentle yoga class and I happened to be the only student at that time so I really enjoyed the extra attention. I belong to Elan fitness in San Anselmo and the yoga classes there are free for me so alas I haven't been back to Embrace Yoga since that first time but I highly recommend it. They're the only studio around that continues to offer early morning (6 a.m.) classes; those of us who are early bird regulars feel so fortunate to have such personalized, caring yoga teachers guiding us in our practice. Amanda and all of the teachers here pay attention to what you can/can't do, and they gently guide you; you never feel like you're taking a scripted yoga class. The studio is light, clean, and has great equipment, including a rope wall. A variety of very experienced teachers offer many styles: flow, Iyengar, restorative, and even kids' classes. I love everything about this place! It is a clean, modern, and intimate space. The instructor for the all-levels class Alicia Thomsen is a wonderfully knowledgeable and skilled yoga instructor. As a former yoga instructor myself, I find it refreshing to take class with a teacher who understands anatomy as well as the metaphysical aspect of the practice. The lemongrass tea was lovely to sip on before and after class, and the delicious essential oil wafting through the air during Savasana was divine! You may even get the lucky bonus as you leave the building: You will likely get hit with the delightful scent of clean laundry, since the studio is directly across from a laundromat. :) Your senses will be delighted at Embrace Yoga! read more

I love my yoga at Embrace for many years now, from the Terra Linda small cottage to downtown San Rafael and shame on me for only giving a review now, years later. I so appreciate a class that is just the icing! All of the "extra" practices we have little time for in a traditional yoga class are found in abundance in Oana's Thursday evening meditation class. I was looking for a studio that would offer me flexible class times, variety and excellent teachers and I have definitely found that at Embrace Yoga! The studio itself is light and airy. The skylights let you gaze up to the blue sky, and the walls of windows bring the lovely sounds of leaves rustling indoors. The teachers are wonderful and all bring their unique styles/POV to the studio. I haven't tried a class yet that I did not really enjoy and get benefits from. Two of my favorites are: Vinyasa Flow with Sara Hess and Arise and Align with Erika Belanger. I've yet to take a class with Amanda Mount, but she was great at giving me excellent customer service, responding to my emails quickly and helping me set up my monthly pass. I also love that it is local studio and you feel a sense of community. All in all it's a great place and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to start or deepen their yoga practice. read more

So I'm back in Marin for a few days, and thought I would hit up one of my favorite spots. I had an excellent class with Sara - if you're lucky enough to be able to catch her classes you should definitely go!!!! She is an EXCELLENT teacher, and I do not say that lightly. Her classes are challenging, focused on precision, non-competitive, and relaxing despite the sweat dripping off your forehead. I have to say, she is by far and away one of the best yoga teachers I've encountered on my yoga journey all over the country. One aspect I would enjoy more of is alignment adjustment by Sara, perhaps this is just a personal preference from previous teacher that helped shape my practice for a very long time in Santa Fe. I agree with reviewers that this is a lovely serene yoga studio with excellent teachers. My one comment I have not seen is that it the studio is bathed in large windows. It gets quite warm on summer afternoons. The teachers and students tend to like it that way. If you get easily overheated as I do you might want to think twice about attending an afternoon class on a warm day. read more

I hesitate to share my love of this warm and inviting yoga studio for fear the classes will get too big, but it would be rude not to, so here it goes...I love this place. It's by far my favorite place to practice. It's near my daughters school, so I can easily get to the 9:15 class a few days week. The instructors are incredible and all the classes are different. You're always learning new poses, and the teachers make it easy for the new to the most experienced yogi to follow along and practice at their own pace/level. I always come out of a class feeling renewed and grounded. I highly recommend this studio....some of my favorite teachers, Amanda Mount -- she's the owner and a fantastic teacher, Laura Christensen, Wendy, and Sam are great. A big part of it is the stellar instructors and how different and unique each of their classes are. Clare, Sara, Kristi, Karen and Sam are all so professional, experienced, gracious and inspiring.
