Dana is a healer. I have longstanding issues with pain from disc herniation in my lower back. I've tried physical therapy several times but never stuck with it. I've also tried yoga a handful of times in a class setting, but again couldn't commit. Enter Dana. Working with her for the past month has been revelatory. Her gentle, expert yoga guidance has helped me begin to feel the embodiment that I'm confident leads to long-term healing. The benefits of 1:1 instruction are huge. Dana is an exceptional personal yoga instructor. I've had regular one on one sessions in her studio for several years, which I've come to rely on to keep my body healthy and my stress level in check. I feel more flexible and have better posture now than I did years ago (even after having two kids). I first contacted Dana for a massage and found her to be a very talented massage therapist. I told her about an injury that had kept me from attending regular yoga classes, and she suggested that I try out a personalized yoga session that would avoid the injury. I was immediately blown away by how helpful her sessions were. She taught me about proper body alignment, helped me with subtle but important adjustments in poses that I thought I had learned long ago, and generally has made a huge difference in my yoga practice and overall fitness. While private yoga lessons seemed like an extravagance when I started, I now view them as an essential way to for me to stay healthy. Dana is great at targeting the hour long session towards what seems most important to work on that day, which makes the practice feel worth several group yoga sessions. My injury is long healed, and I could theoretically return to group classes, but Dana's sessions are just so much more effective. Dana gave me an expert massage. I told her of my troubled spots, where I hold my tension, and my overall state of physical and mental health. I asked her to "fix" me, and she did! After the massage I was grounded, in my body and more connected to myself than before. She has a 6th sense that goes beyond just bodywork, which is what made all the difference. I found Dana when looking for prenatal massage within walking distance of my house. I wasn't expecting to find one of the best massage therapists I've ever had! I usually go for sports massage and was worried it'd be too gentle, but that girl is strong! And she seems to be able to read my body and what it's needing at any given time, without me having to spell it out, or even know myself what I'm needing. My needs have been pre and post-natal so far, but I've been trying to get my husband to go to her to get his surfing kinks worked out. I joined Dana's pre-natal yoga class at Yoga Tree Valencia when I was newly pregnant, but too tired and nervous to keep up my regular anusara practice. Her class has helped me with general well-being, gotten me sleeping better and generally holding myself comfortably as my belly grows. For a special treat I wish I could indulge more often, I've gone to Dana for a couple of pre-natal massages. Awesome. She's strong and soothing and able to handle whatever's bugging me- whether it's related to my pregnancy or not. I cannot say enough about Dana, but I think she is pretty much the main reason I had such a great pregnancy. I went to Dana for a personal yoga session once a week from about my 18th week until the week I went into labor. I would joke and tell people it was such a bargain, because I felt like I was getting a counseling session and yoga session in one. Dana has such a calm presence that even when I was so haggard from working and tired from being pregnant, I would feel recharged after our 1+ hour session. I would highly recommend Dana for personal prenatal yoga sessions, or if you're just in need of personal sessions in general. She is a master! After Zennor was born I took him to her for cranialsacral therapy. I'm not sure if I was just very lucky with him, or if it really had an impact, but he has been an exceedingly healthy and well-adjusted little guy, who is super inquisitive and very advanced in his motor skills. I practice yoga with Dana - started just as I became pregnant and continued all the way to the 38th week! She comes to my house for private sessions most of the time, but I have been to her home studio a few times as well. It is private and quiet, and there is a bathroom you can use to change or do whatever you need! Dana is such an encouraging teacher, and her experience as a massage therapist really adds to the yoga practice. She was nice enough to massage my ankles when they were swollen from being preggers! I attended Dana's prenatal yoga classes through most of my pregnancy and then massages for the last couple of months. Between the yoga and the massages Dana made my pregnancy very comfortable and I went into labor strong and calm. In yoga class Dana has the ability to walk a beginner such as myself through all of the poses, but also make it challenging for those that are more experienced. Each pose had several options so each person could choose how hard they wanted to work or how far they wanted to push themselves that day. The massages were just wonderful. At 8 and half months pregnant I can't tell you how good it felt to have my back worked on, my arms relaxed, my legs soothed, my whole body cared for. Dana was my prenatal yoga instructor. After coming from a busy day at work.,she made this wonderful space for me to reflect that I was carrying a child and to help strenghthen my body for labor. It's amazing how you go through the day so busy not really being able to tune into your body let alone the baby. So that what was wonderful. I was able to relax in her class and not stress about positions or being unconfortable as she is a thoughtful and patient teacher. She is very clear and creates a great rhythm in her practice. I began experiencing some upper back pain over the months of my pregnancy and decided to get a massage. I was lucky because my sister wanted to treat me to a pre and post partum massage. I found out Dana gave prenatal massage as well. I felt safe getting a massage from her since she understood a pregnant woman's body quite well. It was fantastic. I had two massages prior to labor. Then a few weeks after I gave birth she gave me my post partum massage. It was wonderful as I was using my back, rib and arm muscles in whole new ways as a new mom and I was sore all over! I've been seeing Dana for a few years regularly, and she is the best massage therapist (body worker) I have seen. In my past experiences, I've had other regular body workers in Boston where I lived for 8 years and in San Francisco during the past 5 years, who were very good. I highly recommend Dana for her personalized yoga sessions. A friend invited me to a one day retreat run by Dana and I immediately appreciated her calm, warm and alignment focused approach. Dana is is a very insightful practitioner. I've had a number of massages with her and also have attended some of her yoga classes in the past. Her massage practice really is therapy; she has an incredible ability to find the areas in a body that need attention and work them in a way that is serious without being overwhelmingly intense. As a yoga instructor and as a massage therapist she is calm yet puts out a lot of strong energy that encourages clients/students to be active participants in the practice. When she taught yoga classes, she's the only yoga instructor that has ever motivated my husband to get to a regular yoga class. He is an athlete and felt that Dana's yoga instruction benefited his running. As a side note, Dana's ability to tune into a client's body can help her spot other ailments as well. A few years ago, she noticed a lump in my neck and encouraged me to have it checked out. I have been going to Dana for private yoga lessons for almost a year now. I am very inflexible and have a hard time keeping up in "normal" yoga classes. After seeing her three or four times, I was able to touch my toes for the first time in more than ten years. She does an excellent job of tailoring each session for my needs that day. My sessions with her helped me to reconnect with my body as it changed. When I was pregnant with twins, Dana was a lifesaver. Her prenatal massages were both relaxing and therapeutic. I would come in sore and lopsided and cramped and unable to walk and she was amazing at soothing and repairing all the parts that were out of sorts from carrying the babies. I was able to work my desk job until my 38th week and was pretty mobile until I gave birth in my 41st week. I credit Dana with keeping me healthy, flexible, relaxed and mobile during my pregnancy. I still get massages from Dana, though not as often as I want to (I have twins!) , and she is the very best. She is strong and attentive. I met Dana about a year ago in the "womb room" at Yoga Tree Valencia when I was a few months pregnant. Her wonderful twice-weekly prenatal yoga classes became my anchor, and I attended regularly up through 40 weeks. When I was a few days overdue, Dana gave me my first prenatal massage, and I left her gorgeous little studio and blissfully strong hands ready to birth my baby (and wishing I'd been getting prenatal massage all along). Even though I'm no longer a prenatal client, Dana has remained a part of my life. I treated myself to several of her heavenly postpartum massages, and I attend her All Levels Anusara class at Yoga Kula at least once a week. Dana is an insightful, wise, and extremely skilled teacher and therapist. If I could, I'd give Dana 10 stars. I was referred to Dana by Dr Jason Rabineau (see review) when I mentioned to him that I was interested in 1:1 yoga. And I'm so grateful. I've practiced yoga off and on for years and have always enjoyed the poses, breathing, and mindfulness that it has brought. I'd never had the chance to practice 1:1 and as I've gotten older, I've needed more guidance to figure out ways to move my body without injuring it. My tendency is to over do it and I end up with some type of strain/pain. When I started seeing Dana I told her I was interested in getting more in tune with my body, learning how to do yoga without injuring myself, and starting a home practice. What I've experienced in my 1:1 sessions with Dana is nothing less than amazing. She is very gifted in knowing our bodies, helping to bring awareness to parts of our bodies that we often don't pay as much attention to (back body) and giving just the right instruction to get into and be in poses the way that is best for your individual body. Each session is unique and individualized depending on what's going on with you physically and emotionally. In just the short time that I've been working with Dana, I've noticed my body become more supple and pliable. Dana is helping me to really get to know my body through doing the poses. I'm more aware of my bodies tendencies than I ever have been. I have been getting massage from Dana for about a year and I think she is amazing. I was having serious issues with my back after having a baby and then in his first year doing an unusual (or what I thought out to be considered unusual!) amount of international travel with our extremely heavy little bunny and my back couldn't take it. Tried Phys Therapy and a number of other things but they weren't working - which i take partial responsibility for - I was horrible at keeping up with full time work sched, baby and then that - so tried getting periodic massage from dana instead and haven't had a problem since. It's been by far the most sustainable option and is a great forced quiet hour during a typically hectic week. I also have carpel tunnel and she does an amazing job working on my arms. AND - she is a wonderful person and very easy to be around - extremely good sense of others and what level of interaction the need/want, etc. I've also done yoga with her, and she's incredibly talented in that realm as well (check her website).
