I've been here on several occasions, initially because it's only 1 1/2 miles from me. However after many visits,i go there because genuinely like the place. The folks working there are friendly and patient with a recent California transplant. For those unaware California has made it prohibitively expensive to buy firearms and ammo thus their counters are sparce and expensive so to walk into a fun store and find literally hundreds of guns is like nirvana so i have lots of questions and the staff is willing to talk shop and show ya anything ya want with a smile. I signed up for Jason Vilos' $60.00 CWP Saturday class at Red Dot Firearms. I misread the class schedule and thought my class time was 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday. I was incorrect. My class time was in the morning from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. When I realized my mistake, I contacted Red Dot Firearms to explain my mistake and ask if I could attend another CWP class in the near future. The person on the other end of the phone answered after me being on hold with "what". After explaining my mistake, his response to transferring to another class time was "nope". His explanation was "once a basketball game has been played, the ticket is worthless", in a arrogant, dismissive and juvenile tone. Being an Area Director for a telecommunications company, I have NEVER come across such an arrogant, dismissive a$$hole in my personal or professional life. His customer service skills are atrocious and juvenile at best. Anyone with that kind of disdain for a paying customer who admitted to their mistake will never see a penny of mine again. I also cancelled the transaction on my CC due to his complete juvenile response. read more

Red Dot Firearms has an excellent range - great ventilation and lighting with nicely maintained lanes. The staff and owner are always friendly, knowledgeable and provide excellent service. Denny goes out of his way to take care of his customers. He does a great job maintaining inventory and always keeping his store clean and orderly. CCW course was fine, not necessarily stellar, but entirely ruined by being forced to sit through a sales pitch before they'd sign-off on the class. I paid for the class, make the sales pitch optional at the end. read more

Great range, as far as I am concerned it is the best indoor range in Davis co. Ventilation is the best, lighting is very good. Always a good selection of guns and if they don't have it they will order it for you. Their ammo selection has grown over the years and I am sure you can find what you need. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. I just need to get over there more often. read more

Had a great experience purchasing my first gun, was treated kindly even with my noobness. Also had an amazing experience with jeff who teaches you how to use your firearm safely, and effectively. Went shooting here the other day with some friends. I've been here twice so far. The location isn't too hard to find its by the car wash and across the street from Sams Club. Its hard to miss. The owner I believe was there, seemed like a nice guy with lots of knowledge. He was showing some customers around and showing them new inventory. Very simple to get on the range. Fill up a few forms and hand the range master your ID's, pick out some targets if you didn't bring your own. There are about 12-13 lanes to shoot on so even when its busy there is always room. The rates were fairly cheap, for 1 hour with one person it was $12. They also have packages if you shoot enough and memberships as well. You pay as you leave the range so bring your money and keep track of time. Overall a good place to shoot, with knowledgeable people who work there. Struck a conversation about reloading and learned a few more things. read more

Trained today with Jeffrey Denning (http://www.jeffrey-denning.com/), and he is an AWESOME instructor. My wife and I took his Handgun Development course, and I must say that it is a must have for any practical pistol training. In the beginning, we did basics in the classroom to help lay a foundation for gun safety, various safe carry/retention positions, and general operation of the firearm. I think this is excellent for someone brand new to firearms, but also a great refresher for those of us that are a little more experienced. I even learned a few new retention positions and safety thing that I was not aware of because I am mostly self taught. The quality of his explanation and clear presentation cannot be overstated here! He had a very friendly affect and it was inviting for those who were new to training. Just the kind of guy that I felt like I knew for a long time. Next, we went to the range for life fire exercises. In my opinion, this was what i needed. Jeffrey's eye for detail and his his experience with shot diagnosis really shines here. He was able to explain my bad habits and correct them as well as give me basic training exercises to help me train in new positive habits. By the end of the course, my shooting was much improved, but I will also have to practice the exercises he gave me at home (dry fire) so that I can be better the next time we get lessons. My wife, who is an inexperienced shooter, really enjoyed the class as well. He was very encouraging and patient with her, and at no time did she feel rushed or uncomfortable. By this being her first lesson, she had no bad habits to get rid of. All her training came from him and she shooting better than I was! Literally, a freaking tack driver with the pistol after his instruction. The training session was actually a date as my wife and I rarely get out, and I must say, it was a success. My wife is more interested in coming back, and now I can better justify the other guns I wanted to buy LOL.
