Wow, I didn't expect my combo platter to be so delicious! I stopped by, not expecting much, since I ran out of groceries and the menu prices seemed cheap. Halal food has only recently emerged in Galveston including Red Chilies which opened a couple months ago. It's a food truck tucked in the Chevron parking lot on Broadway and Seawall. Despite its unassuming appearance and empty line on a Monday night, they served some incredible chicken schwarma and gyro. Their quality and taste fared similarly to what I'd expect on the mainland near Webster.
Galveston keeps reminding me that the best food comes out of lackluster-appearing trucks. Nothing hits quite like a food truck run late at night. I've seen it time and time again with street tacos, and I'm glad to see that halal cart food is following those footsteps. read more
