First time ever taking our dog to a boarding or dog daycare. We literally had less than 1 week to find a place to watch our yorkie for Father's Day weekend. Luckily with google Red Barn Boarding popped up as the 4th/5th search result. Unfortunately, they don't have a website but maybe its great considering its a local place. We called and Lisa let us come visit the same day to check it out before committing and we loved it so much that we reserved his spot immediately. Lisa is so sweet and very accommodating and really cares for pets. The facility is really clean...you really can not smell urine or poop. The rates are very reasonable food is included and outside play is extra (but we want him to be happy so we don't mind the extra cost). She keeps the big dogs separate from the little ones. The dogs are always separated but do get interaction with other pets since they can see each other through the fence/gate. The facility is a very cute rustic red barn and has AC. It was great considering the weather in the last few days have been over 100+ degrees. They're really close to VCA Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic which is great if there is an emergency. I left my two dogs here to go to my brothers out of town wedding, and one of my dogs is old and has cancer which makes her pretty gross with drool and such. The owner was nice enough to agree to watch her so I could keep her with her sister in the same run. I was happy with the facility and the professionalism for the most part. However, I knocked off stars because the owner completely panicked when there was some blood in my dogs drool and demanded I pick her up immediately. Now, I understand my dog is old and sick, but that was disclosed ahead of time and all my family and close friends were at this same out of town wedding. I spent most of the day begging favors of my neighbors until I found one who would move her to a different facility. I'm writing this review to back up the other "bad review" and to warn you this is not the place to send you dog if they are not perfectly healthy and well behaved. read more

Friendly, professional dog boarders out in Loomis. I liked them, they let me walk my dog to her kennel and lay out her blanket and give her toys before leaving her for the weekend. I really trusted them with my dog. My only complaint is the pick up and drop off times...I hate being restricted to when I can get my dog! read more

This is a great Boarding facility if your dog is comfortable with kennel boarding. They took great care of my large dog. I have since found 'in home' dog care and she is happier with that as she is mostly an indoor dog. read more

I very much liked the boarding facilities. I have 2 yellow labs, one being a barker. I warned the owner of this and brought a bark collar but he said he never had to use it!!!! What's his secret? For the price, I don't think you can get a better boarding kennel. They even provide the food. I always leave my dogs here when I go on vacation. read more

Red Barn is not only my favorite but my 1 1/2 yr old Aussies too! She is a very active dog and needs attention 24/7. When I picked her up she was excited and acted as she had a blast. Very reasonable! Owner (Lisa)made me so comfortable and feel that my dog was in the best hands ever. I felt more as if I was dropping her off at a family instead of a boarding! I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I dropped off my dog here for 6 days as I was going on vacation. When I placed my dog in the kennel/cage, I witnessed the owner of this facility kick the next-door cage with his foot and told the dog in that cage to shut the blank up. I cringed but was desperate so I ignored it. Six days later, when I picked up my dog, I noticed she acted completely different. Normally a very outgoing, playful, friendly dog, she coward when she saw me, was very quiet and skiddish. I immediately sensed something very wrong. The owner informed me that my dog had bit his wife and I was lucky he didn't file charges. (My dog had never bit anyone before or since.) I noticed my dog was skin & bones. Normally she weighs @ 13 lbs. I paid my fee and left. When I got home, I weighed my dog. She weighed 9 lbs. When I had dropped her off, she weighed @ 13, her normal weight. Since my dog allegedly bit the owner's wife,(which I have a hard time believing but still) I didn't notify the ASPCA as I wanted to let things be. However in hindsight, I wish I had. If I had left my dog another day or two, I know she wouldn't have survived. PLEASE do NOT use this facility! It is poorly run. The owner is a jerk, to put it mildly and I definitely would not be surprised to ever learn that he abuses the animals in his care! read more

Excellence is an understatement! I have been to many great places but you will never find management like the people here at Red Barn. Lisa is FANTASTIC. I could not get my dog to stop wagging her tail and myself for that matter. We have a sitting and boarding place close to us that does good work, but the care and dedication at Red Barn Boarding will surpass your expectation. Never ever, ever again!!! We dropped our English Bulldog and Boxer off for a week to spend our wedding anniversary in Cancun. Everything seemed fine as we left. When we arrived back to our room on our first night in Cancun, the guy had called 3 times and left 3 messages about how the bulldog had "turned into a werewolf" and we needed to make arrangements to have them picked up and taken elsewhere! Well, our dog is anything but a werewolf. He can become territorial if he feels threatened or doesn't know you. This only implied one thing - the owner of Red Barn Boarding did not take the time to get to know our pets. We began making phone calls and figuring out other arrangements only to call him the next morning and hear that our dog had "turned over a new leaf" and was behaving just fine. It's unfortunate that our dog had to learn not to bite the hand that feeds you on his own, because the boarder couldn't take the time to familiarize himself with our animals. read more

I echo the sentiments of previous posts and would HIGHLY recommend taking your dog anywhere other than Red Barn Boarding. From the moment we picked our dog up we had the feeling that the four days he'd stayed in the kennel were more of a prison sentence than a nice place to stay while we were out of town. The owner yelled at the dogs to "shut-up" on multiple occasions and told us that the neighbor's would get upset if too many of the dogs were barking (ummmm this is a dog kennel right)? We were also told that next time we come back (which won't happen again), to ensure we bring a "Bark Collar" so he can keep our dog quiet! Our dog has never been a "barking" dog, however, when placed in a situation where he is scared or being treated like an inmate on death row then obviously he will communicate the only way he knows how...by barking. The nickel and diming on the charges is also ridiculous. We were charged $2 per feeding and $8 for one walk a day. Overall we were less than impressed with the unprofessionalism and outright anger he had towards the dogs. If there was a way to give a 0 rating I would have done so. Pay a little extra to have your dog in a kennel where you have the peace of mind that everything will be as good or better when you get back...we definitely didn't have that experience at Red Barn. read more

Don't do it!!! The facility is very similar to the pound but at first the guy seemed nice enough so I decided to try the place. We left our dog with her own bed, food and toys. Upon our return we found the guy gruff and unkind. He added some charge that I still don't know what it was for. Maybe using our own food? I was too angry to figure it out. Took our dog, paid the guy and left. Would NEVER take any pet back there ever again. BEWARE. I want to think they've changed, but I doubt it. Be very careful. read more

We have been bringing our 2 aussies to Red Barn since 2006 and we have never had a problem. The owners have always been professional and caring in their approach in taking care of our kids. Being a retired animal services district manager I do expect a kennel to be clean and in good condition with a competent staff and they have exceeded my expectations. They have their current kennel license from Placer County on their wall for everyone to see. I highly recommend them. read more
