Would be a 5* - timing was great, price was great, driver and staff did their job and were friendly, but the bus itself, despite being a newer one than I usually ride on, has some problems that are inexcusable. The bus is LOUD. The constant banging from the sign on the passenger side destination display is just absurd. Some padding (hell, a pool noodle would do the trick!) is cheap and would eliminate the problem entirely, and would be easy to hide. There's just no excuse for that much rattling for something I fixed by putting my finger there just to see if that would work: It did. The squeaking from loose seats is annoying, and coupling that in with the rattling from that sign for every bump and crack on the highway, I had to put earbuds in to drown the rattling out. Lastly: There are two check lights lit up on the dash. Why is maintenance not being done? Even if it's minor, how do we as passengers know that? My safety is in YOUR hands, it's what I pay you for. My life is worth something to me, even if it isn't to you. Fix your busses. There's zero excuses for engine lights and rattling and banging and squeaking. read more

Our bus from Banff to Calgary was cancelled because the company deemed the route to be "unprofitable" for them. We only found this out after calling the company when we saw that our credit card was refunded... no email regarding this was ever received in our inbox or junk folders. Either way, cancelling tickets after they've been issued to the public, and plans/trips have been made is so completely unprofessional. I called to reschedule my bus for the same day but later. showed up to my bus the day of my trip to not be on the list. they had changes it to two days prior instead of later the same day I was originally leaving. so stuck at the bus terminal for an extra 2 hours. and they still made me pay extra for my personal item. I just had a medical procedure done and am in pain , so now I get to sit here in pain as well as the whole 3 hour trip I had originally planned for. read more

Holy cow. Almost killed us!!! Left lane is for passing, not for busses when there are 2 other lanes. You CANNOT just go into the lane when people are there and push them into the guardrail. We were in the left lane when one of these buses tried to cut us off by just entering the lane without regard for who was in it. God awful if this has people in it. read more

I'm providing this review after my letter to Red Arrow that is posted below did not receive a response: To Whom it May Concern, On Friday, March 7, 2024 my 18 year old daughter rode the Red Arrow from Calgary to Edmonton. As the bus approached (8 km from gasoline alley) Red Deer it became apparent that it was having mechanical issues. The driver pulled over and informed the passengers that he would call for another bus. Over the course of the next while the driver said they would have to wait for a bus to arrive and in fact it took over 2 hours for a different bus company to arrive. I decided to drive from Spruce Grove to Red Deer to get my daughter as the driver was not able to conform when they would get to Edmonton. I was able to get to where the bus was stopped as the new bus pulled up however, I could not cross the median so I had to turn around at Innisfail so the new bus left before I could pull up to it on the hwy. Numerous people who were destined for Red Deer were picked up from the side of the highway by family members so the driver decided they would not stop in Red Deer. The driver knew I was coming to retrieve my daughter so he asked her where he could drop her off and he recommended the Holiday Inn in Gasoline Alley so this was our agreed upon meeting place. The issue and why I am writing is because the driver chose to drop an 18 year old girl off NEAR the Holiday Inn at 11:30 pm where she had to walk, pulling her suitcase down a road which is completely unsafe. So many horrendous things could have occurred; hit by a vehicle, kidnapped, etc. When I pulled up to the Holiday Inn and my daughter showed me where she walked from I was apalled that the driver put my daughter at risk after they all spend over 2 hours sitting in the side of the road, what would 2 more minutes of delay done when he could have insured her safety by dropping her off at the door? There were 2 bus drivers, the Red Arrow and other company driver- 2 grown men decided this was a reasonable choice to make?! When a company is responsible for other's safety this also includes not dropping a young woman off at the side of the road, at night in an industrial area. On another note, rather than keeping passengers sitting in a bus for 2 hours on a busy hwy, a shuttle or even taxis should have been used to transport passengers into Red Deer to the Ramada Hotel so they are not at risk of being rear ended and possibly injured. A company as large as Red Arrow should have a better emergency plan in place! My hope is that this can be used as an opportunity to train your drivers to understand the risks associated with a passenger's overall safety! I look forward to your response. I have been taking red arrow regularly couple of times a week between Ottawa and Toronto for a few months, and I must say I am highly impressed. The coach is comfortable, very clean and well maintained, but that is not even the best part.The price is very reasonable, comparable to the other bus services that offer the same route but Red Arrow offer so much more. The seats are HUGE, and you can even book a single seat for a minimal price for additional comfort (if you want to travel without a seat mate). They offer complementary snacks and drinks,free wifi and there is always an attendant on board to help and coordinate everything for you. I have never experienced such exceptional customer service. Their staff is extremely kind and helpful, always ready to make your travel even more comfortable. I would also like to give a shout out to Sonthary from Red Arrow for being such a rockstar on board. Not only is she always on top of her game, but she takes utmost care to ensure your comfort is maintained. Extremely polite and is always available for a great conversation. Whether it be the checkin process, onboarding, off-boarding or during the journey, she is always helping out with a smile. I would highly highly recommend Red Arrow for the route between Ottawa and Toronto. This is my go to bus service now. read more

Amazing service by Helene, David and Laura! I had booked a round trip Calgary/Edmonton. When I arrived at the departure terminal, I could not board as I had not brought sufficient identification with me - my error completely. Helene and David worked with me to re-book the next day. As I waited in the reception area, I could overhear their conversations with other customers in person, and on the phone. The quality of customer service was phenomenal. Later, I had to cancel my reservation completely - Laura was very helpful in processing a refund. Their customer service is absolute garbage! Encountered racism from their staff twice. I'd sooner walk than ever book that damn Red Arrow again. Swear on my life, I'm not lying. First incident: At the downtown Calgary office, the ticket-checking lady sneakily muttered "idiot" behind my back. Second incident: Same place, as I waited for others to board, the driver slammed the luggage door shut before my turn. When I handed him my luggage, he rudely quipped, "what?" I explained the snow delay, and he callously responded, "So what if it's snowing?" These people never treat their own that way. I saw it, as two more like me waited, and the driver said nothing. my friend was just on the bus from Edmonton to lethbridge. there was a a stop in Calgary where they would change bus. she had a support animal with her from the start. at Calgary she was denied going further. She was left in Calgary with no money and now is going to sleep on the streets because of their stupidity!!! how was she allowed on in Edmonton but not allowed to go further in the MIDDLE of the trip! this is complete BULLSHIT! they wouldn't even give her money back! she could have found an Airbnb at least until she had some sort of ride. Travelling from Fort Mcmurray bus driver was impatient and rude could hardly understand what he was saying had a thick russian accent. Then I got sat next to a lady who was obviously intoxicated and kept waking me up to use my phone then would start abruptly sobbing and talking to herself while trying discreetly chug back the few beers she snuck on to the bus which she spilled all over early on in the trip so the whole ride my my shirt was wet and reeked like beer. I started riding Red Arrow a couple years ago after being a Greyhound rider, and I think it's worth paying almost twice as much to avoid a ride on the dirty dog. Red Arrow beats Greyhound on everything except price (and maybe frequency if you really wanted to take the milk run to Calgary at midnight...). The staff are great, the amenities on the bus are good (the internet is a bit slow, but hey, you're on a bus), and the clientele tends to be a bit more pleasant to share a confined space with for a few hours. (No one getting drunk in the seat behind you...) If you're a student who travels the same route frequently, I recommend getting one of their student ticket packs. That cuts the price down quite a bit, and it's very simple to use. Red Arrow is comparable to other bus services I've seen in other parts of the world where traveling by bus is popular, although I wish it had more destinations. read more

Red Arrow is simply the best and most luxurious way of traveling by bus in Alberta. Unfortunately it doesn't go everywhere (darn!) but it is a convenient way to get from Edmonton to Calgary or vice versa and to a few other Alberta destinations as well. Not only do they offer free beverages and snacks, but you can reserve your seat in advance, you have access to free wifi, and the buses are usually on time! In addition, there are student discounts among other perks if you sign up for an online account with them. I also like the fact that reserving my own seat in advance can mean sitting on my own (one side of the bus has single seats!). read more

I absolutely loved traveling with Red Arrow after a disaster of a trip with busbud and being told I would be removed from the bus if I ate or drank on it. No washrooms and a 9 hr ride. Red arrow was so accommodating friendly food and drinks were allowed plus washroom wifi TV the difference in price between the 2 was only $30.00 . Pros: Staff and driver were friendly Cheaper option than red arrow Convenient location downtown Bus looks new, excellently clean and no smell The one im in has power plugs on every row Lots of space under the coach for the luggages Has an overhead storage for your stuff but not so big Ample leg space 5% discount when booked online Cons: Rough seats - like seating on a sandpaper sort of, had to wear my jacket for my skin not to touch the rough seat Hard seats - like seating on a wooden chair Refund/exchange policy seems unfair Though this is not ebus' fault, my 4hr ride was not very pleasant due to a couple of inconsiderate passengers who were talking and laughing so loudly and watching videos without earphones. Red Arrow has been around forever, since at least the 90's when I remember riding it as a kid and teenager between Edmonton and Fort McMurray. Years later, Red Arrow is still a fantastic option for travel within Alberta. I booked ahead of time through Red Arrow's website, but if there is room on the bus you can book as a walk-up as well. I love that as a solo traveler I can reserve single seats on one side of the bus, and have that seat waiting for me. Routes run at a variety of times, and you can cancel for a full refund up to three hours before departure. You need to arrive 15 minutes before departure for boarding and they'll check your name and seat assignment as you get on the bus. I love how flexible this traveling option is, especially compared to the hassle that flying has become. There are snacks, pop and water in the back of the bus, along with a washroom, and a movie plays on a few screens. The movies are usually kind of old and a DVD that the driver puts in, but a nice option if you want to plug in your headphones and listen. Generally I find the seats and the trips to be comfortable and easy, with a stop halfway (Grasslands for trips to Fort McMurray and Red Deer for trips to Calgary). Highly recommended! read more

This was my first time using Red Arrow, and if I can help it, I'll never take Greyhound again. These guys are everything Greyhound isn't. (Thank you, Greyhound. If your website hadn't told me absolutely nothing was available to or from Calgary, I never would have discovered Red Arrow.) The website is super easy to use, and lets you reserve your own seat. This means I was able to book myself a seat all to myself. It includes maps and street level views of the bus stops. The downtown location was clean and quiet, the staff friendly and efficient. They had coffee and snack vending machines, as well as stuff to read--just local free publications and stuff. The buses themselves are beautiful! So clean and spacious. The windows are HUGE. I couldn't believe what a quiet and smooth ride it was. I did something I never do on a bus. I RELAXED. The movie (The Soloist) was incredibly boring, but I liked how the $5 headphones came in a round zip up carrying case with two pairs of spare ear buds. I didn't check out the free beverages in the back-maybe next time-but I think that's a cool idea. I often take Red Arrow between Edmonton and Red Deer or Calgary and have always found it to be an efficient way to travel. They offer free wifi, have movies, 5 radio stations, newspapers, and a variety of drinks and cookies. The leather seats are comfortable and the times I've travelled the bus hasn't been full so I can sit in the double seats with no one beside me. Or you can also sit in the single row seats. When you book, you get a discount if you let them know you are an AMA member and they also offer discounts if you're a student. You can also chose your seats when you book your ticket. The refund policy is also good with 30 minutes for morning trips and 3 hours for other times. I also appreciate they have a frequent traveller program so I can eventually earn a free trip. They also sell earphones if you forget to bring yours and the drivers are always friendly and drive for the conditions. read more

How do you improve a motor coach service between Edmonton, Calgary, Fort McMurray and Lethbridge compared to the Greyhound model? The answer is Red Arrow. Their service includes appealing aspects such as plug-in for every seat, wifi, cookies, refreshments, entertainment and comfy leather seats. Store your large luggage in the lower half of the bus, store small items above your head in the coach. The overhead compartments even have grooves along the isle to steady oneself while moving in the coach when in motion. The expresses by-passes the stop in Red Deer on the Edmonton to Calgary route and are at 6am, 12:30 (weekdays and weekends), 4:30 (weekdays and weekends), 6:30. Coach to Calgary from Edmonton costs $72.50. They also have routes to Fort McMurry and Lethbridge. If I could make a suggestion, perhaps some fruit for the journey. Also note that arrival times may be subject to traffic and weather conditions. Stop in Calgary at the north stop (304 35st NE) or downtown at 9th Ave and 1st SE. If you need a taxi when you arrive in Calgary the Marriott is 1 block west. There is a permanent taxi stand there that usually has cabs waiting. Tip: If arrival time is no issue you may want to check out the ebus website for cheaper fares. Ebus is Red Arrow discount liner so you lose the frills with the service, but you save a ton. One way Edmonton to Calgary is $31.50. However, the frequency and flexibility for departures are limited. read more

Thank you Red Arrow for ensuring that I never have to take the Greyhound between Calgary and Edmonton ever again! Before I moved here, I would make the 3.5 hour trek up from Calgary at least once or twice a year to visit friends. Back then I didn't know any better and would always book a ride on the Greyhound. However, one day someone recommended Red Arrow to me and I've never looked back. While ultimately I still prefer driving myself, I am also extremely paranoid about driving on icy highways in the winter and thus I generally end up taking alternate transportation. Now I live in Edmonton, my trips between the cities have become much more frequent and I couldn't ever imagine not taking the Red Arrow. As other reviewers have mentioned, the Red Arrow is Alberta's top bus service on so many levels. They offer complimentary beverages and cookies, on-board wifi, movies (which I never end up watching thanks to the wifi), fantastic customer service, and clean buses. I had a car problem in Red Deer and I needed a way back home to Edmonton, so I decided on Red Arrow since I'd heard great things about it. The ticket was about $42 from Red Deer to downtown Edmonton. When I booked the ticket over the phone, I was asked if I knew anyone who had taken Red Arrow before as I'd get a 10% discount. I did, so that saved me a few bucks. The bus was on time, the leather seats were comfortable and the rest of the bus was pretty empty so it was nice to have space. Unfortunately the WIFI didn't work and there was a movie, but it stayed on the DVD menu screen for the entire trip. The day after I took the trip, I heard an ad about their complimentary drinks and snacks. I forgot about that when I was on the bus and was never offered anything, but never asked either. It was a comfortable ride back home and I would take it again if I needed to. read more

As far as bus services between Calgary and Edmonton, Red Arrow really is as good as it gets. Clean buses with large, roomy seats complete with individual outlets for power and data, and free wifi for the whole trip, makes Red Arrow perfect for the DT to DT business traveler who needs to get the presentation ready before the meeting. Your trip includes unlimited cracker/cookie-like snacks and coffee, tea and water available in the self-serve fridge at the back. A simple online booking system allows you to choose your seat prior to boarding and, conveniently, there are both side by side seats for the social and individual seats for the leave-me-aloner. It seems Red Arrow has thought of the customer over the profit margin which, ironically, means more profit for them as I will always book this reasonably priced bus when I am heading the Edmonton and need to get some work done. This was my first time riding a "motor coach" in Canada. I was a bit skeptical at first because how fun could a bus ride be when you're travelling all the time for work? This seemed to be our best option so we took it anyway. It is what everyone says it is! Plush seats, foot rest, outlet, free WiFi, cookies, beverages, and a movie? Wow! I love Red Arrow! It's quite a bit more expensive than Greyhound, but I think it's worth it. The station is very welcoming and clean, and the staff are really friendly. The buses have complimentary snacks/beverages and wireless internet (doesn't work all the time, but at least they tried). They underestimate the arrival times a little bit, but it's not a huge deal. Red Arrow is my favorite way to travel between Edmonton and Calgary. It's so comfortable, convenient and quick. Quick might not make a lot of sence, but I think since I am not doing any of the driving I can relax and enjoy the ride, making the time go by seemingly faster. I love that they give you snacks on board, and they do play a movie but I tend to stick to my own collection or reading. Only thing I wish they could improve on is the quality of the internet, but I think that has more to do with traveling through rural AB than anything. Also, the power outlet at my seat didn't work one time, and that totally sucked...but it's only been that one time and I've taken the charter a lot. Don't waste your time at the airport! It's way faster to get on the Red Arrow and drive non stop into the downtown core of each city. read more

There is no better way to travel between Edmonton and Calgary. They have many trips a day, they are almost as fast as driving and they offer free cookies and drinks. First, the non-bus perks: their phone service is always polite, helpful, and never keeps you on hold long; their website is easy to use; and they have quick trips between YEG and YYC at good times. I have been taking the Red Arrow for the last 12 years (basically since living in Edmonton) for trips to Calgary and Banff. For the service and price in a land with no train service going south, this is as good as it gets if you don't want to drive. The coach is always clean and comfortable with snacks in the back to have when you want. The only drawback, but then again it is something we deal with on airplanes, is that you have to pay for headphones to watch the movie (not a big deal, but worth mentioning). My only complaint is that I wish they would show two movies instead of just one since the first movie usually ends by the time we stop in Red Deer or a little after. Other than this one complaint really, I will continue to use Red Arrow :-) read more

Great buses, been using them for the last 7 years, but the last three trips I've taken from red deer to Edmonton, and back, the bathroom has had this strange smell. Not the smell of an average public washroom, but like rubbing alcohol, and it actually stings the eyes. Lift the toilet seat and there's a bunch of condensation, and your behind gets wet sitting down. It's like sitting over a household humidifier. I insist this gets fixed, cause I usually use he washroom once per trip, but it makes it hard when I have to have my eyes shut the whole time. read more
